Must be seriously tough. (PEARL -- F, 25-35)

Reply to septembermoviecasting@gmail.com, with headshot and resume/reel.

Actors will receive $128 stipend upon completion of filming.

Thanks,
Andy

====

Professional-level paid non-union short seeks actors for RI shoot Oct 2-7. MUST be committed to rehearsal time, mastery of lines and blocking. The finished short film will appear in black and white.

Rehearsal schedule is TBD, but will be in either the greater Boston or the Smithfield, Rhode Island area, subject to location availability and actor convenience. Shooting will take place in/around the greater Smithfield, Rhode Island area.

All levels of experience encouraged to apply. Please feel free to forward this notice. Please see instructions below for how to apply.

This film contains coarse, vulgar "locker-room" language on the level of an R-rated movie, something in the spirit of Kevin Smith's "Clerks." It contains no nudity or violence.

Synopsis

The film concerns a young drifter's efforts to find his place in a small-town world. As he grows further away from disappointed relatives and bawdy friends -- though unsure of what exactly he's growing towards -- he tries to learn how to make something good of himself.

The finished film will be approximately 35 minutes in length.

Seeking

(Blue collar, rural, Boston accents a plus for all roles)

DEIRDRE, 70+: Bawdy older woman. JOHN's grandmother. Secretly loves nothing more than a crude joke and a scotch. We're looking for a grandmother who is willing to tell a pretty obscene/vulgar joke. We need an elderly woman with a dirty sense of humor who isn't afraid to be downright nasty on camera. We are hoping that the shock of it will play off as funny.

RUSTY, 65-80+: An old man at the bar assisted by JOHN. Heartbroken. Down on his luck. Grateful to JOHN. Quiet, thoughtful, kind. We need an actor who is able to express a lot of pain with very little dialogue. This role requires an elderly, physical actor who can exude sadness, utter despair, and then slowly ebb into a kind of surprised happiness. Again, someone who has seen a lot of pain in his life.

PEARL, 18-35: EXCEPTIONAL actors only. A young woman who meets JOHN. Feisty. Free spirit. Kind to a fault, but with a huge temper to hide it. A harbinger of what it means to be left alone in the woods. We are looking for an actor who is beautiful but TOUGH. Seriously tough--no models please. She has to be someone who has really seen a lot of stuff in her life and does not tolerate whining from anyone else. This has to be someone who immediately commands authority, even intimidates people, especially men.

However, she also has to be attractive/sexy enough to be a believable love interest. She has to be loving and kind on the inside beneath a very very hard shell. She has to be able to immediately flip into this soft, tender side after starting out hard as nails.

This role will only work if PEARL gets a top-notch actor. The role itself is fairly small in the short but her role is absolutely critical. We are hoping this could be a showpiece for a really talented actor. We are willing to see a lot of people to get this one right.

MALCOLM, 20-35: Friend of JOHN. A near-perfect raconteur, storyteller par excellance. Boston accent, blue collar. Total moron--but could make a phone book smile. Brash, crass, exuberant. Full of life, patriot, born-and-bred in a small town and never going to leave.

THOMAS, 50-70: Father of JOHN. Silent, hard as granite. Horse farrier. Disappointed in JOHN. Lonely in his own right, driven by the simple joy of hard work with two hands. Horse experience a plus.

BOBBY, 40-55: Born storyteller. JOHN's uncle. Another born-and-bred small towner for life.

WILLIAM, 40-55: BOBBY's sidekick brother. Kind, a little quiet, happy just to be there.

KEVIN, 20-35: Laid back friend of JOHN. Knows the guys are all morons but is a little too lazy to care. Happy just to screw around with the rest.

KATHLEEN, 40-60: Loving mom. Has worked hard all her life and just wants the best for JOHN and the rest.

"BIGGIE," 20-35: Full of heart. The "fall" guy for MALCOLM's jokes. Gets upset easily which just makes everyone else laugh. At the end of the day really just wants to eat his sandwich. Small/scrawny a plus.

TERRY, 20-35: Clean-cut, All-American type. Quiet, loyal, JOHN's best friend and a good guy.

FRANK, 40-65: Bar manager. Heartfelt. Passionate. Fatherly. A little disappointed with his own life, trying to help JOHN not fall prey to the same life mistakes he feels, rightly or wrongly, he's made himself.

To be considered for an audition, please respond to Andy Gerst at septembermoviecasting@gmail.com with:

Your Name
Your Phone Number
Role(s) you are interested in
Attach Headshot & Resume
Include a link to an online portfolio if you have one

Subject Line of your response should should be September Movie: Your Name

Submission Deadline is 08-23-2010
