There was a time when Sam Ash was actually a quality store and, get this, they actually carried the newly released and the newest technology items, too! That was in a galaxy far, far away. The service is abysmal, the selection is horrendous and the prices are no bargain either. I do all of my buying online (and NOT at SamAsh.com). The guy who commented on the burnouts who hang around the front, outside, smoking was spot on! I only go there for items such as drum keys, the occasional drumhead.... and that's about it and only because they're closer than Guitar Center. <![CDATA[My wife wanted to buy me a bass for my birthday last year. I wanted a particular model from Squier that had just been released. So I said "Let's check out Sam Ash, I haven't been there yet." We walked in, checked the wall for the instrument we wanted, and didn't see it. So we asked some sales guy to see if they had any. He disappeared for about 20 minutes, and then the next time we saw him he was helping somebody else in a completely different area of the store. So we went to the desk at the front with the big sign that said 'CUSTOMER SERVICE' and asked the guy there if they had, or were expecting, any of the new Squier modified jazz basses. Well, apparently we had some nerve, cause this fat bastard made no effort to hide his annoyance and said, after exhaling loudly, "You're gonna have to ask a sales person. I mean, I have no way of knowing that." So I said "Sorry, I guess I was mislead by the huge sign above your head that says CUSTOMER SERVICE." I don't think he heard though, because he pretty much leapt over the counter with a quickness I wouldn't expect from a man his size, to make sure that the black youths and elderly woman who were exiting the store could produce a valid sales receipt for the merchandise they carried. So I said to my wife "This place fuckin' sucks. Let's check out Guitar Center." So off we went, where we were greeted-almost swarmed-by friendly sales staff and not to mention a cleaner, brighter, more organized store environment. We found the guitar we wanted in stock and were gladly upsold on a bridge pickup, cable, strap, gig bag and even had the new pickup installed on-site. We found everything we needed in one stop at GC vs. begging for attention at Sam Ash. So, since we're all weighing here...Sam Ash sucks unless you need a place to host a dirtball and burnout convention]]>

<![CDATA[ Hello! My name is Joseph and I've been playing guitar for about 23 years. I have played in gigging bands and currently am on stage every other week. I've got plenty of performance ready gear. Professional attitude with no drama (I am not fond of drama or TIME WASTERS) is all you will get. I have finally realized that I need to be realistic, and just expect that musicians in the Charlotte area are very flaky. However, I ask that if you are not serious, please don't waste either of our time and don't bother contacting me. I come on time to rehearsals and performances, fully prepared with your song list, and ready to go. (I also have a great ear for improvisation if the situation calls for it.) I like to think I have a very good stage presence as well. I can also play bass in a live setting if needed. I'm a guitarist at heart, so while you might hear some nice bass fills from time to time, you won't get anything crazy from me. The good news is that means I will almost always stay tight in the pocket! So I don't waste anyone's time, I want to make it clear that I am looking for paying gigs, whether it be covers, originals, or a mix of the two. That's not to say that if you play guitar you are excluded. I have not even met any of the current responders yet. ________________________________________________________________________________ Is anyone interested in playing traditional metal? If you are asking what I mean by that, let me go further: 1. Clean vocals 2. Guitars with good rhythms, and some overlayed melody 3. Not every song about death, hate, misery or sadness. 4. Songs may include topics like drinking and women, but more weighty topics as well. 5. Is fun to play and you may even smile while doing so. Many might also call this hard rock, which I am OK with too. I am trying to avoid naming bands because I do not want to sound like anyone specific. But think, 80's metal with a modern edge. I would like to start a band preferably, but if you have a project going that fits, I will consider it. I would like all to share the writing process, though I have no problem if someone wants to keep some control over an idea they create. Ideally, the band entails: 2 Guitar (myself and another) Bass Drums Singer (though I may do that, or one of the other musicians) What I would not like: 1. People with no car, job, or money to put in on band things. In short, losers. 2. People who are total alcoholics or use hard drugs. I am pretty open minded, and think everyone should have a good time. But nothing that gets in the way. In short you are an adult and can make your decisions. Just also make it to practice. 3. You should not have to wear a kiddie wrist band if we play at a bar. And, you should be able to join me for a drink.... or six. (I said no total alcoholics, not that we cannot drink, though I don't like drinking much before playing) I am looking for over 21. 4. Egos that cannot be backed. If you can back it, who am I to say anything. I want people who are pretty good at what they do. If you can shred solos with killer sweep arpeggios, you are better than me, and I'd be glad to have ya. So long as you aren't a dick, an ego isn't so bad. 5. You should not have to check with the wife, girlfriend or mother before coming out to play each and every time. You should be able to have a set practice schedule and be able to accomodate other band members as they accomodate you. 6. You should not think we will take over the world. Its OK to work for it, but that edges on dangerous types of ego. I would like to "make it", but it takes time and work. 7. While its serious business, you should not be so serious you cannot have fun. If it ain't gonna be fun, I don't wanna do it. If this sounds like you, let me know. ]]>
