I'm here to kill you bitch." The new intruder pulled a wooden stake from her back pocket and took on a fighting stance. Luna could feel her irritation begin to rise. "Why do I have to be the bitch? You're the one standing there with a weapon and ruining my night….." She did not get to finish before the girl with the flaming hoar attacked. Luna deflected her first thrusts with the wooden stake easily, she dropped low and swiped her off her feet. The red head landed on the grown with a thud but flipped up easily and circled Luna "Listen little girl you need to go home before you get hurt. I'm feeling charitable tonight take the offer before I drain you dryer that a corn husk." Luna said. She came at Luna again who bent her back easily when a fist came at her face. The held the girl's folded hand and kicked her in the stomach causing the girl to fall to her knees coughing. "Ok what the fuck is your problem, do you know how old I am? They are reviewing a request to bypass a city ordinance that is in place to protect water quality and wildlife habitat in our neighborhood. On Idlewood Circle near Freedom Park, there is a plot of land that is land locked with no street access. The lot has NO existing home, is fully wooded, and has a significant grade dropping directly to Dairy Branch creek. The creek runs through the lot which means most of the lot is protected by a 1999 city ordinance called the “SWIM buffer.” The ordinance is meant to prevent new construction near bodies of water in an effort to protect water quality, control storm water volume, and maintain aquatic and wildlife habitats. Dairy Branch feeds Little Sugar Creek in Freedom Park. The ordinance allows for exceptions when there are legitimate, and sometimes not so legitimate reasons. If this request is approved, this lot along with others in the neighborhood can be cleared to make way for construction of more than one new home, in an area where only one house originally stood. On this specific lot, only one of the new homes will have direct street access, the other new home(s) will be positioned in the rear of the lot behind houses, with long driveway for street access. What does this mean for you? As we all know, a neighborhood’s location near center city is desirable. Sometimes residential developers come up with creative ideas allowing them to unnecessarily profit from our location. In our surrounding area, we’ve all seen one house torn down to make way for the construction of multiple houses, where only one house originally stood and would be the norm. This decision next week will further expose the neighborhood to the risk of unnecessary residential infill. You can influence the decision! The Water Quality Department has indicated that no request like this has ever been submitted for our area, so this will set a dangerous precedent for the future. It could clear the way on Idlewood, Cumberland and Clayton for future development of 2 or 3 houses on lots where one house stands now. There is a chance this request will be approved, however the Water Quality Department has indicated that neighborhood preferences and comments will be taken into account during the review process. They indicated the best method of influencing the process is by receiving a large number of comments from the neighborhood. Comments are due July 14, 2008! The original due of 6/30 was extended because of signifcant public interest in this matter. Please consider the following action: If you would like the department to deny the request and enforce the SWIM buffer ordinance please contact them. Your efforts NOW will help to preserve water quality in Dairy Branch creek and maintain the habitat for our urban wildlife. Additionally, you will be strengthening Freedom Parks neighborhood’s protection against future unnecessary residential development and maintaining the character of our neighborhood. Your request should include the following: Your name, address and information/reasons supporting your preference for denial of the SWIM buffer request at 2665 Idlewood Circle . The reasons to deny are ultimately your own; however the following should be taken into consideration. · Not disturbing the existing natural tree canopy and vegetation within the SWIM buffer provides the greatest protection to the creek and is the best mitigation plan for water quality risk. · Construction of more than one home in the area increases water run off and pollutants to the creek. · Removal of the trees and vegetation, the natural creek barrier, and installation of long concrete driveways increases storm water run off, which in turn increases risk of flooding. · The current proposal to construct more than one home has the most significant impact to the SWIM buffer. If more than one home is a non-negotiable for the developer profit, the footprint of the new homes should be planned in areas that minimize SWIM buffer impact. · Removal of the forest will displace wildlife. · There will be a negative impact to neighborhood property values. ·The character in Dilworth, Myers Park , and Freedom park neighborhoods isn’t maintained by building houses two deep with only one on house the street front. When I pull up to a street corner and there are homeless men standing there waiting for a handout, I usually give them something (unless it is obviously for alcohol). When someone asks me to help them find a job, I get right on the internet and keep praying and looking until they are employed. The last person I helped didn't know what to do with her life. We prayed and she had a dream that she was cleaning houses and just loving it. Well now she is a self-employed house keeper "and just loving it," haha! God is good. I give rides to the grocery store, rides to school, rides to events. I help Latinos to translate their language for them. I help them to send money overseas to their families. I pray for people to be healed of sicknesses, I visit hospitals. I could use an SUV right now! I give people advise about their businesses and their clients. I rarely charge for gas or minutes on my phone. Recently, I pulled up to a storage place and they were auctioning off all my friends clothing and furniture household goods. <![CDATA[Pat McCrory says Raleigh needs to be straightened out. But let's see what he does about this as the Mayor of Charlotte.. He has been notified that a company by the name of Allied Barton Security Services in Charlotte has a contract with the City of Charlotte for 5 Million Dollars. However, this contract has been in default for 6 months. The contract was to be fulfilled by December 2007. This contract calls for Allied Barton to have 32 Sworn Police Officers working at the various light rail stops as well as the CATS main transportation center. This contract has never even come close to being fulfilled. In fact, to this date the total number of Police Officers since December 2007 sworn has only been around 16. However, at least 5 of them have already resigned and by the end of June 2008 (2) more will be resigning. This will leave around 9 Officers a far cry from what the contract states 32.. Until they get rid of the upper management at Allied Barton including but not limited to the Chief & Deputy Chief, the District Manager and support - This contract will never meet the requirements. This is a waste of tax payers money. The contract is already 6 months in default, the City (Mayor) needs to take immediate action. There are a number of folks that will state that the main reason this has happened is due to lack of leadership and experience. The Chief Deputy along with some of the supervisors that Allied Barton has hand selected lack experience and ethics to run a police department and have been terminated by previous Police/Sheriff Departments. The Chief Deputy Eric Garrison was terminated from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department for committing perjury on the witness stand, unsatisfactory performance and inability to perform assigned tasks. Is this really what the tax payers want to be paying for when this money can be going towards: Not Raising the Bus & Rail Fares, Food, Shelters, Assistance with the Elderly just to name a few.. Let's watch and see if Mayor McCrory steps in and makes the right decision in filing suit against Allied Barton for breach if contract and terminates the contract or if he will fall into Politics? Then we will know if the right choice is Bev Perdue for Governor.. We all know without a SOLID FOUNDATION everything else will fall... Well received monthly fund-raising lunch is in need of a volunteer cook to prepare home style meal served buffet style for 100 - 150 dine-in and carry-out. Ladies guild and volunteer veterans will assist as needed, prepare additional desserts, set-up tables and fix to-go boxes. Ideas of previous menus: rolls and cornbread, pinto beans/chopped onion/coleslaw, beef stew/vegetables, green beans/potatoes, pork loin, saurkraut/weiners, country-style steak/gravy/mashed potatoes two main menus with banana pudding, tea, coffee. Special menu can be selected for specific holiday month meals. Monthly luncheon is available to anyone to attend, and all money received over meal ingredient purchase goes to the Disabled American Veteran's Fund.
