<![CDATA[The Humane Society of Lincoln County has an adoption center at the Northlake PetSmart in Charlotte, NC where we have cats every day. Every morning and evening we need to have volunteers clean our sweet cats/kittens cages to make sure they look nice and the animals are happy. But right now we are short on cleaners, especially mornings! The morning cleanings can happen as early as 6 in the morning until 10 in the morning. We really need the communities help in order for our rescue to keep that adoption center. We don't require long term committment or anyone to commit to every single day. If you can only clean one morning a week, one morning every couple weeks, whatever it will be a big help. If you're only available evenings we could use them too!! And if you TRULY have a passion for helping the animals we have a volunteer staffed at the adoption center all day Saturday and Sunday to show people our cats and tell them about the adoption process and volunteering. (Proper training will be given until you are comfortable) So please consider helping us out. Must be 18 years or older to clean and volunteer, or accompanied with an adult. We are looking for volunteers to help staff events from Wednesday December 10th until Saturday December 13th . We are also looking for people to help with a variety of other tasks leading up to the main event. Volunteers are an integral part of this event and will receive FREE admission to all events except finals and the erotic open mic. A list of the volunteer job descriptions are listed below Door/Tickets: Your job is to man the door, and check poet/volunteer passes & tickets. Scorekeeper: this person(s) will write down the poets score and tally them up. Food for the hamsters, gerbils, rats, guinea pigs, flying squirels, bedding for the rodents, they use the pine bedding. Some of the employees are paying for these items out of their own pockets. <![CDATA[update - the many food and other donations that were made to operation noah's ark have been falsely reported by a few select volunteers to be available for the taking. upon arriving at the warehouse yesterday, we have been stripped of 3/4 of our donations. a "one day volunteer" took it upon herself to tell rescue groups and even gaston county animal control that they could take as much as they wanted and even told them how to get into the warehouse. so now with the pedigree recall, we barely have enough food to support our foster families that are kind enough to be taking care of these animals while the court system decides what to do with them. all of our toys are gone, all of our bleach for disinfecting kennels, many collars and leashes, even the snacks provided for the volunteers. gaston county returned all of what they took yesterday and we thank them. if you have been contacted by a linda taylor or a roxanne and have taken supplies for us, please, please return them to the denver warehouse - we have over 100 dogs and 50+ cats to feed in this interim period - thank you! first picture is what we had , second is what we have now... ]]>

My name is Dave and I'm a Huntersville resident that wants to contribute to the Room To Read organization. Their minimum number of books is 50 books so I'm looking for others to donate new books and get the number well past 50. The idea is even if you can donate one book, it will be put to good use for children that otherwise might never have access to a teacher or books. I will even meet you to pick up the books, I prefer that you buy the books so you have a tax receipt for your records. Donations to this organization are tax deductible. Just send an email and we can email/talk about where to meet and go over the program's book requirements. Once we get enough books together, I'll pay for shipping them to the Room to Read warehouse where they are sorted and sent to poor areas of Nepal, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Africa. <![CDATA[Someone needs to get Craigslist to create a category for asking for help, asking for a job, etc. And fix their software for such threads to be banned from other categories. It is easy for them if they try. There are numerous words that are common in these help threads. Some may get thru but it would be just like my Outlook Express "message rules". I can target certain words and the messages are automatically moved to the delete box. Ebay hires people all over the world to monitor their site and the goings on. Craigslist could have people that do nothing but verify that a flag is a REAL flag, and help type posts are put in the proper category. I do not think there is a "right" category for them now. There are people in need, but you can read alot of these and tell they are phony. I'm tired of being flagged just because I fail to sell my item to someone, etc. Perfectly fine posts that are flagged. All flags should go thru Craigslist staff too. Another problem is too many people are too willing to send these people money. One person wanted giver's to use Paypal. You have to have a bank account and credit card for a Paypal account, phone, legitimate address, etc. There is help for all people in the community. No need for them to come here to post. One answer, that will not work, is everyone stop giving money to strangers. Offer them a JOB and see if they still want your HELP. Some will run for the hills because they only want a free handout and the people who give it to them are part of the problem. Stop giving and they'll stop asking. OR a category designed especially for them. ]]>

It was such a blessing to see a 180 turn in their behavior and health. This would not have been possible without the endless hours our volunteers put in caring for these animals. It was wonderful to see what a loving and caring community we have. We would not have been able to have such a successful ending if it were not for the community being so generous in their donations.
