Forte International Exchange Association (FIEA) is a State-Department recognized student exchange program based in Washington, DC. Since 2000, we have brought nearly 2000 international students to the US to study in public schools and experience American life and culture. FIEA is currently looking for caring families to host students beginning January 2009.

Every year, FIEA brings foreign high school students and caring host families together to embark on an exciting cross-cultural journey. These students are selected for our program based on high academic achievement, strong English abilities, and interest in American culture. Host families are eligible for a modest $50/month tax deduction, but the real rewards are intangible: exposing your family to another culture, sharing your home and family life with a visitor from abroad, and making a personal investment in global cooperation and understanding.

Who Can Host?
As long as you have some extra love to go around, that's all you need! We accept families with or without children, married or single father and/or mother figures. Somewhere in the world there is a student waiting to meet a family just like yours!

While many children living in orphanages have lost their parents, others were given up because their parents couldn't afford to care for them. You can make a difference by working directly with the children or by in a support capacity. Lets offer these children the chance for a better life by providing them with an education and better prospects for employment later in life. It doesn't matter if you choose to work with the children, develop programs, raise funds, or raise social awareness about the problem, you just need to care in order to make a difference.

Every morning and evening we need to have volunteers clean our sweet cats/kittens cages to make sure they look nice and the animals are happy. But right now we are short on cleaners, especially mornings! The morning cleanings can happen as early as 6 in the morning until 10 in the morning.

We really need the communities help in order for our rescue to keep that adoption center. We don't require long term committment or anyone to commit to every single day. If you can only clean one morning a week, one morning every couple weeks, whatever it will be a big help. If you're only available evenings we could use them too!! And if you TRULY have a passion for helping the animals we have a volunteer staffed at the adoption center all day Saturday and Sunday to show people our cats and tell them about the adoption process and volunteering. (Proper training will be given until you are comfortable)

So please consider helping us out. Must be 18 years or older to clean and volunteer, or accompanied with an adult. Please only email us if you are the adult of the child as it is the parent we will need to talk to.

Once we get enough books together, I'll pay for shipping them to the Room to Read warehouse where they are sorted and sent to poor areas of Nepal, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Africa. I'll even email you with updates as we collect books and once the books are sent.

You can read more about the organization here: http://roomtoread.org . The founder is John Wood, a former Microsoft executive. You can also read about his story in the book "Leaving Microsoft to Change The World". It's a GREAT read.

The Room to Read organization believes that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. More information on their programs and book requirements are below.

"The ability to read is fundamental to gaining an education. Without literacy, education is, for all intents and purposes, futile. However, 770 million adults in the world are illiterate and an additional 100 million children are not currently enrolled in primary school – that’s nearly 1 billion people who do not have basic reading and writing skills. Room to Read seeks to improve these conditions by establishing thousands of libraries and filling them with books that will give children an opportunity to expand their horizons, nurture their natural curiosity and their ability to think, and gain an education that will help break the cycle of poverty that plagues the developing world."

We will be open every weekend (Fri and SAT) in Oct. Even if you can only help out one day a weekend (or just one day!) we need your help. You may see more information on us at myspace.com/horrorhills. The most current information is listed on the site, but Sunday Sept. 21st a large update will occur and oreorder tickets will go up.

We have been recieving calls from many customers already, checking to see if the trail will be in operation this year. We expect a large patronage.

Workers for the trail are not paid (as the proceeds are donated, you may contact me to find out this years cause). We do, however, provide snacks and drinks. We are also looking into the possibilty of a gas card giveaway for workers who work the trail for all of the nights that we are open (this depends on revenue of the trail). There is also a tip jar, which is spilt between all workers that night.

We are told we are the best around, but we need more people to really bring out just how great we can be. Please message me on myspace or email me at horrorhills@gmail.com for more information. Place Horror Hills Volunteer in the subject line.

Please spread the word, we needs LOTS of help this year. You will be required to interview with me before starting work on the trail. This will be only a 15-30 minute interview. This is great experience for resumes. You dont have to be seeking a career as an actor for this type of work to look great to a potential employer. It shows a variety of talent among other things. |

One point here is that there are real people needing help and there are scammers on Craigslist.

Those who are seeking help for any reason need their "own category" to post in.

Maybe a category called: needing help

Then all the real people needing help and the scammers can all post there and the others who want to help these type people can go to that category to look for people needing help.

I've seen "help me" type post in the "wanted" section, in the general and volunteer and other inappropriate categories.

| Someone needs to get Craigslist to create a category for asking for help, asking for a job, etc. And fix their software for such threads to be banned from other categories. It is easy for them if they try. There are numerous words that are common in these help threads. Some may get thru but it would be just like my Outlook Express "message rules". I can target certain words and the messages are automatically moved to the delete box.
Ebay hires people all over the world to monitor their site and the goings on. Craigslist could have people that do nothing but verify that a flag is a REAL flag, and help type posts are put in the proper category. I do not think there is a "right" category for them now.
There are people in need, but you can read alot of these and tell they are phony.
I'm tired of being flagged just because I fail to sell my item to someone, etc. Perfectly fine posts that are flagged. All flags should go thru Craigslist staff too.

Another problem is too many people are too willing to send these people money. One person wanted giver's to use Paypal. You have to have a bank account and credit card for a Paypal account, phone, legitimate address, etc.

There is help for all people in the community. No need for them to come here to post. One answer, that will not work, is everyone stop giving money to strangers.

Offer them a JOB and see if they still want your HELP. Some will run for the hills because they only want a free handout and the people who give it to them are part of the problem.

Stop giving and they'll stop asking.
OR a category designed especially for them.
