<![CDATA[The Situation in Asia Cats and dogs that are brutally killed for the fur industry and food production – this is unfortunately the sad reality in some Asian countries. The animals are specially bred in farms, caught on the streets or simply stolen from their owners. Dogs and cats, jammed in small cages and without food, water or shade, are offered for sale at markets. Agonising Death China is the largest fur supplier worldwide. Undercover researchers on location have documented how cats and dogs are heavily thrown to the grown to have their paws hacked off. They are beaten, hung up, bled to death and throttled with loops of wire. The oppressed animals often have their skins ripped off their living bodies while they are still fully conscious. The last moments of their lives are spent on a mound of their dying fellows, helplessly suffering in horrific agony. Labelling Fraud Many furs subsequently make their way into the international fur trade. Clothing trimmings, toys or rheuma blankets, for example, are made from the furs. An investigation of the American animal protection organisation "Humane Society" discovered that furs are declared according to the wishes of the retail outlet. In doing this, one of the techniques was the use of fantasy names, like “Gae Wolf“, and yet another technique was the hiding of the origin through declarations like “100% Real Fur”. The reason for these deceptions of the consumers is clear – hardly anyone would consciously want to purchase a product that was made from or included cat or dog fur. Fur Imports in the EU As the USA and Australia have already enforced strict import bans on dog and cat furs, Europe has become the most important distribution market. In Europe, the import of cat and dog furs or products made from them has not been included in statistics up to now. There are no official numbers. According to estimations of animal welfare organisations, hundreds of thousands of these furs make their way into the European Union each year. FOUR PAWS Campaign In 2006, the European Commission submitted a first draft on an import and trading ban of dog and cat fur. This was done after the media published reports on the animals’ sufferings in Asia and after many petitions and the support of members of EU Parliament. FOUR PAWS has been fighting for years for a comprehensive import and trading prohibition of these products. But the Commission’s proposal contained a huge loophole for animal cruelty. Following this proposal, dog and cat furs would continue to be imported from Asia if the furs do not originate from fur farms. As it is impossible to check the origin of the furs in Asia, this loophole was a serious threat to animal welfare and consumer interests. The consequence of such an exception would have been labelling fraud, confusing the European consumer. In the USA and Australia, strict import bans on dog and cat furs without any exceptions have already been enforced. FOUR PAWS launched an international campaign to get an import ban for all dog and cat fur without any loopholes. Within three months, supporters from many European countries have sent more than 160.000 e-mails to the EU Ministers of Agriculture. Negotiations were difficult, but finally the European Parliament, the Council of Ministers and the Commission agreed upon deleting the loophole from the draft regulation. Now, there are only two exceptions, but these do not have any impact: furs may only be imported if they are used for taxidermy and teaching purposes. This import prohibition is a huge success for animal welfare. The import of furs stemmed from brutally tortured animals will be a matter of history. He really is a sweet heart. He is up to date on all shots, including a three year rabies vaccination he just got in January. He has been fixed and microchipped. He is housebroken, crate and doggy pad trained. He has been to doggy obedience training. He is a real good dog, and "knock on wood" has NEVER chewed anything he shouldn't. <![CDATA[I run a small feline rescue out of my home. Currently up for adoption is Anya, a 6-7 month old BEAUTIFUL, long-haired grey kitten with white paws! She is gorgeous and has a cute freckle or two on her face. I have so many pictures of her, I had a hard time only picking four for this ad! She was rescued back in December from living amongst the dumpsters in Chicago along with her litter mates. Anya was adopted but had to be returned to me because the other cat already living at that house terrorized her and never adjusted to Anya being a new member of the household. Her new owners were totally in love with her, but knew that she deserved better. Anya is spayed, microchipped, tested neg for FIV, FELV, vaccinated and rabies vaccinated. Paperwork will accompany her. She is extremely shy at first and will hide. However, after about 2 weeks, she will start to rub on your legs, follow you around, and meow to be fed. As you can see from the pictures, she is very loving and does like to be pet and cuddled once she trusts you. Despite the mean cat at her first "home", she LOVES other cats and would do best in a QUIET home with other FRIENDLY cats who will treat her like a loving playmate. She has been through a lot in her 6-7 months here and deserves a superior home. She follows around the other cats in my rescue and is very playful with them. Kip is a very special case, and will be given free with kennel, a half year's supply of heartworm pills, leash, etc. Here are some criteria/ information for Kip's new owner: -Kip is neutered, but will require shots sometime within the next few months. -He is a cream colored dog, with brown eyes, and weighs approximately 12 pounds. -He is a pure-bred pomeranian. -Kip is an abused dog, and is particularly wary of men. We are looking for either a single female, a couple, or a family (although pomeranians generally don't get along well with young children) -He is partially potty trained, meaning he knows to eliminate when outside, but if left inside, he will potty. We are looking for owners with enough time/ patience to be able to potty train him fully. -Because he has been abused, he has nervous tendencies and may act skittish around new people initially. -Kip does not chew up and destroy furniture or clothing, so he does not need to be crated during the day. -We reserve the right to check up on him in a month's time to make sure that he is doing ok. We are requesting this visit because we want to make sure he is cared for and that he is not being taken to be sold. -We also request 2 references, which we will follow up onl. - He does bark, as many dogs do, when he is nervous or frightened. This may occur more frequently when he is moved to his new home because he will need some time to adjust. This stipulations and warnings may seem like a lot, but we want to make sure that Kip finds a permanent home with people who can take care of him. <![CDATA[this has been a long time coming,i knew it was going to happen sooner or later. This was my sons Terrier (mixed with something else) we have had him for 3 years. Unfortunaltly my son is a teenager now and is to busy to take care of him with school,sports,work and friends. So of coarse dad had to do take over the responsibilities, but now dad is getting to busy to care for him as well. He is a great dog if you have patients and time for him. great with kids, I have a 5 year old that is around him all the time. here are the pros and cons THE PROS Very very loyal, he will follow you around everywhere you go, lay by your side when you are watching TV or lay by your bedside when going to bed (which can be a con as well) Small to medium size, not very big, does not eat alot housebroken (if you have him on a routine, DOGS cant open doors to get outside) Great secuirty, will bark if he hears your doors being open at night (which can also be a con sometimes) THE CONS Will follow you around everywhere (sometimes i trip over him) barks at people (only initially ones he gets to know them he calms down, I started training him to be around other people but again to busy) Alot of hair (unless you cut it short, which we did one year but dont thing he liked it to much) this is going to sound funny, but its true. When he needs to go to the washroom, you cant just send him out into the yard and assume that he is going to do his buisness. You either have to be out there with him or you have to walk him. If not he will not go..... Has not received his shots this year. so definetly that need to be taken care of. I hope this is enought information, please do not respond if you dont have the time to spend with him...... like i said I really dont want to give him away but I think he would be better of with somebody that has alot of time for him. <![CDATA[Hi i have a 5 year old mastiff named cooper. He is still very much a puppy (read rambunctious when riled up) even at 5 yrs. He gets along well with other dogs and is even a bit submissive at times. As far as other animals, I don’t know, because his only other companions was his aunt who we put down earlier this year at age nine and a half. He is up to date with his shots, is microchipped, eats a special diet of iams/eukaneuba low residue dry food to the tune of about 60 pounds a month, he also takes omega three fatty acid pills to keep his shedding down and he does not like to get his nails clipped. He is lean but we kept him that way b/c his aunt had hip problems earlier because she maxxed out at 210 pounds. He could put more weight on, but that is up to you. I’m asking for $150. You get his box of toys that he hardly every uses and his food containers. The latter doubles as a platform for his dog bowl so that his head and throat are level with the height of his food. I would like to meet with you so that I could have peace of mind about Cooper’s new family. He was always taken care of by the family whose backyard he lived in, so was always people friendly. He is of course house trained and very well mannered. <![CDATA[Jackie (black male), Jake (orange male) and their sister Leigh (black) have been in foster care and are ready for their home. They are 7-8 months old. They are all spayed (or neutered) up to date on their shots, FIV/FELV (neg) and micro-chipped. While Jackie and Jake are very precocious, Leigh is not. If we catch her off guard and start to pet her, she absolutely loves it! But more times than not she runs off, but she is getting better and friendly everyday! Jake is a bed bum. He splits his time between playing with the others with their favorite toy mice and sleeping between the pillows on our bed. LOL! Jackie balances the 3 off very well. <![CDATA[ I found a stray Beagle a little over a month ago and after exhausting all efforts to find his owners, I am putting him up for adoption. Bailey is a neutered male Beagle around 2 years old. He has had his first round of shots, but will need one more set. He is very well mannered. He is good with my two dogs. I have a young Dobe and a spaniel and he is good at reading them and interacting appropriately. He DOES NOT like cats. He chases my two cats in full bray and does not let up until I remove him from the cat's area. He is responding very well to clicker training and even knows a few tricks, he sits up for a treat, rolls over and speaks on command. Bailey loves to be outside, but like all Beagles, is a roamer, so a fenced yard is a requirement. He is in great shape, not chubby at all which is unusual for a lot of Beagles, and will need to keep exercising. I will be asking a rehoming fee to recoup some of our costs with vetting him. I also require a home visit. If you have current pets, I would like to see current vet records for those pets. Bailey is a very sweet Little Man and I want to be sure he goes to a great home. <![CDATA[Seriously why was this flagged? A couple nights ago I was out in my fenced in half acre back yard with my 10 pound rat terrier because our porch light was burned out. The next thing I know I feel a gust of wind and see a large shadow, I called my dog to me just in time as a very large owl swooped down. It then made a screech. Now I have seen many barn owls and been around them and this was DEFINITELY not a barn owl. I searched online for sound clips to identify the screech and believe it to be a Great Barred Owl or Great Horned Owl both of which are said to be found all over. My question is what can I do? I know owls are great creatures for the environment and such and I have absolutely no desire to hunt the thing but I want to know why this happened, was it because the light was out? ]]>
