<![CDATA[On my way to work this morning I'm delayed and officially 4 minutes late to my office because there's a police "Safety Enforcement Check" at 91st and Roberts rd in Hickory Hills. Cars are literally crawling down the 2 lane road because there's a cop standing in the middle of the lanes. He's watchdogging into every car to spot someone not wearing a seatbelt so he can wave them over and write a $100 ticket. I get to the office (late), and sort out what I've got to do for the day. I drive a workvan through the city and suburbs and I'm used to seeing cops everywhere but today was nuts. A few hours later I'm exiting 294 in the I-Pass lane and JUST as I pass through the I-Pass gate (at the required 15 mph) there's a State Trooper standing there- hidden behind the toll gate so that you won't see him until he's close enough to peer intently into your car as you drive through to see whatever he's looking for (no seatbelt, or open booze, or whatever). THREE blocks later I'm driving back to my office and a big van is stopped in the middle of road. As I get near enough to pass it I see that just behind it is a squad car- the van is clearly there to mask the squad car as 2 cops are standing there peering into every car that drives past. is this Russia? what the fuck? it's 1 thing to have cops on the lookout for this shit but the cops today were causing back-up traffic and near accidents all day long for what exactly? to write tickets? is that what the police are for? is this what cadets at the police schools are dreaming of doing when they become cops? I guess my problem with this is that I drive through every neighborhood in and around the city every day and I see crime and problems all over the city and suburbs, and there's not a cop to be seen. why are the police focused on suburban family types who forget to wear a seatbelt at 91st and Roberts Rd, when THOUSANDS of criminals OPENLY stand around, loitering, littering, gang-banging, harassing people, DRINKING IN PUBLIC at 10:00 a.m., smoking pot, selling drugs of all types, and so on ALL across the city!? guess what cops? i think 91st and Roberts Rd- for that matter ALL of Hickory Hills is pretty safe ok? good job! now why don't you cops spend your day LOOKING FOR AND CATCHING CRIMINALS!? maybe, oh I don't know- at 63rd and Ashland? Today at that very corner (all at ONCE at 3:00 p.m) I saw THREE people smoking pot, 2 people drinking, and a mother ignoring 2 toddlers who kept running into traffic- nearly causing crashes or worse, and guess what? NOT A COP TO BE SEEN! I'm not as dumb as I know I sound, I realize the reason for this, I do. the people who are driving to work at 7 a.m. in Hickory Hills on Roberts Rd have cars, and jobs, and money to pay tickets to the Gov while the losers I see in the city all day long are poor and arresting them for all of the crimes I see them committing every day would COST the Gov money instead of PROFIT the Gov by writing tickets. if you have no money the police ignore you. if you have even a MEAGER earning power (a small car and middle-class job) the police watch you like hawks, just WAITING to pounce on you and savage your bank account, and let's not forget the fucking CAMERAS they are putting up at every intersection in the fucking city! 1984 ANYONE!? ever read that book? BIG BROTHER!? am I the only one who resents being fucking videotaped and spied on every time I drive down the street? seriously, is this America? it's looking more like Russia or China every fucking day.
