<![CDATA[Sometime in the early morning of Thursday 8/21 my son's red moped was stolen from our home in the Franklin County area of Powell (near Smoky Row/Summitview). It was chained to the basketball pole along side of our driveway. It certainly wasn't new, but it was very important to him. He had spent a lot of time working on it. At the time it was stolen the fuel line was disconnected, consequently is isn't 'rideable'. Parents...if your teenage son has recently shown up with a moped with a lame excuse that they found it, or it was given to them please understand that it was most likely stolen. The moped requires a license plate and registration. A police report has been filed. Should your son be seen riding it he could be arrested and charged with receiving stolen property. To whomever took it - DO THE RIGHT THING. It is not usable to you as it is, nor can you ride it legally. Police will purposely stop your child should he be seen riding without the plate. Please encourage your child to return the moped where it was taken from. Should you as a parent feel your son is involved and are willing to surrender the moped without involving the police, please respond to this ad. I am willing to pay a $50 reward IF it is returned in the same condition in which it was taken.]]>

Cats, especially indoor cats who have been displaced from their home, for whatever reason, will act very differently when they are outside their territory. My cat went into what the sites deem "silent mode". He was only 3 houses away, but he was hiding, silent and scared, underneath our neighbor's deck for 4 days. It was very stressful for us and for him. Your cat's life may depend on your strategies to find him or her - cats in silent mode revert to this type of behavior to keep themselves safe from predators, and it also means your cat may not come to you when you call or try to lure them out. They can also die from dehydration if left out too long as they won't necessarily eat or drink since they are hiding. Time is critical! Tractor Supply Co. carries the Havahart style traps for about $50 - you'll need the raccoon size - it is a trap that is easy to set, it has a plate the animal steps on that causes the door to close. Put it along a fence or under bushes close to your home if you can, bait it with strong smelling food like tuna or canned dog food (dog food is more aromatic than cat food). This is one tool that can help you if you don't have anyone home during the day to watch for your cat. Also useful for when you need to sleep (you can't watch the window and doors every second, even if you want to!) You can also put your smelly shoes by the trap or close to your home so your kitty will smell your scent. Cats are nocturnal. Our kitty was found at 1:00 am, we had been searching the neighborhood for 3 days when I finally found him, and when I found him, he ran away from me! I had to sit quietly where I was close to where I thought he was and talk to him for about 20 minutes before he would answer me, and it seemed like he had to be absolutely sure I was alone before he would come. He finally came out, and boy, we were both happy to see each other! You CAN find your pet, it just takes patience and persistence. Don't give up hope. The lostapet.org site has info on how to make posters and flyers, and lots of good information to help you find your kitty. I used the tips they had to help me find my kitty, and it worked! Everything they said about silent mode is true! Don't rely on phone calls to the shelters, the people there, while helpful, have way too many calls to field and too much to do, it is easy for your kitty to not be located just by calling - you have to visit. Capital Area Humane Society has wonderful people, they are open from 2-7pm through the week and from 1-5 on Saturday. They will take you on a walk through if you want to look for your cat (or dog, for that matter) and they will let you post a flyer in their intake office. Very helpful folks. They can also provide you with resources, local numbers to call, etc. Flyers are great, but the florescent poster designs that are suggested on this site are easier to read and convey the information better, especially to drivers: <a href="http://www.lostapet.org/recovery-posters.php" rel="nofollow">http://www.lostapet.org/recovery-posters.php</a> I did my posters like they suggested, and I had a lot of people in my subdivision tell me they saw my signs, and that they thought they saw my cat (and they were very close to where he was) which helped me not give up. The main thing is, unless your cat was chased off or transported, it's likely that he or she is very close to you and just not revealing themselves. Good luck to all of you searching for your kitties, I hope you find them. Chipping them once you get them back is something you can do to help you be reunited should kitty escape again, it is very affordable, only about $30-45 depending on where you get it done. The first thing shelters do is they will scan an animal to see if they have a chip. It's not foolproof, it doesn't do any good if no one turns in your animal, but it will help identify him or her if brought in. I got my cat chipped yesterday after his ordeal, the price is going up September 1st, so if you want it, sooner is better for a good price. I got mine done at the VCA on Sawmill and 270, the cost was $29.99, and I plan on taking my other three cats this weekend. Don't give up, don't lose hope - kitty is out there somewhere and she's missing you as much as you are missing her! ]]>
