<![CDATA[I've worked in the graphic design industry for a few years now, and while I am content with my current job, I can't help but notice a few trends that have become more prevalent in recent craigslist Art/Media/Design job postings: <br> <br> <br> I.) The Tech Boom. <br> <br> Technology is great. I think it's great that you can find artists who are a little tech savvy, or happen to be one of those coveted 'devigners'. Please keep in mind that you are posting in the Art/Media/Design subforum, meaning that most of the people looking here are going to have a background/degree in relation to graphic design in oppose to computer science. <br> <br> <br> It's okay if you're looking for developers and programmers, you might want to post in the Software/QA/DBA, Web/HTML/Info Design, or Internet Engineering jobs instead. You're not going to find the best developer candidates in this job section simply because the designer's mindset (though not all, some choose to refer to this as being 'right-brained') works differently from that of a programmer's (in contrast, a programmer probably wouldn't know the first thing about creating something that is visually appealing/easy on the eyes). Don't start creating a list of computer languages for requirements (personally, I wouldn't expect a graphic designer to know the first thing about Ajax/JSP, ASP.Net, or PHP)... and don't expect 7-8 years of experience for software that hasn't even been around for 5. <br> <br> <br> II.) The Pay. <br> <br> While it's not news that craigslist has been infamously know for various 'scams'/shady dealings, offering $10-12/hr is really an insult. Why would you guys even bother offering competing salaries against entry level fast food/retail jobs? If you want to take advantage of college students, then go right ahead, but you're not going to get quality work. Don't be cheap, you get back what you put in. I know I would work a lot harder if I was offered to make $10 more an hour. <br> <br> I would say that in today's economy where gas prices soaring, offering $18-22/hr is an appropriate starting salary if you are looking for GOOD graphic/web designers.
