Hey everybody,

My name is Corey, and I am a fairly recent college graduate. When I was in school, I was in a service organization and that enabled me to volunteer for literally thousands of hours over four years.

I REALLY miss the feeling of helping out the community, so I thought I would try to start a group of community volunteers. I figure there are probably people who want to help others as well.

My idea is pretty simple---a group of people in the Houston area that get together (possibly once a week or every two weeks) to volunteer for an organization/event/cause, etc. We could communicate by e-mail or create a website instead of asking people to travel for meetings or whatever.

Also--another great thing about this group would be that we are not always volunteering for the same group/organization/cause. We can vary our events so that everybody will get to do something they enjoy and we can also spread our help out!

As we get started, I would be willing to set up the volunteer activities, and hopefully we can progress to have a team leader/organizer for each activity.

Does this sound even remotely interesting to anybody? The best part about this is that you can be as involved as you want to be---I know that everybody has a life, work, family.

Shoot me an e-mail and let's see what develops!

Most of the District offices try to stimulate the development of eco-tourism in their region when potentially interesting spots can be found, to give the youth the chance to stay in their region of origin. It’s the case of the Phattalung district and the head of the Klon La village, in cooperation with the local eco-tourism club.

Among the beauties surrounding the village, we can find a network of wonderful natural caves lying in a beautiful but fragile nature. It is known and visited by few locals only. The partners involved want to develop information about it, build infrastructures to sensitize the population and visitors about environmental protection and structure a trekking circuit. They count on the volunteers to support the initiative.

In the first project, the volunteers will trace the path connecting the major caves together and work on the infrastructures of the starting point. The second group will create information panels and signs, build garbage bins in natural material to keep the site clean, and will also give few English language lessons to the stakeholders of the eco-club. The third project will continue to work on the information related to the path and caves, create descriptive brochures in several languages and draw maps of each of the caves.

Study theme: The volunteers will learn about the environmental specificity of the region and how the site was used by the local population through the ages.

Special requirements: Nature lovers will enjoy this project especially. Visitors arrive at the port of Gavrio, which is 36 km away from the capital, Chora. Chora was built on a peninsula and ends up in a small island, on which there is still a medieval fortress.

Good Morning. I took on a project for my church, Trinity Lutheran Church Downtown, www.trinitydt.org, thinking someone would be generous. I am hoping that I have just not reached the right person yet. We adopted a nursing home in the Heights some years back. We visit the lovely men and women there on regular basis. There are 29 Moms there. We badly need to find a florist to donate some type of flowers to take to them on Sunday, Mother's Day. This florist would be recognized by our congregation. I think it would be much like advertising and could also be used as a tax deduction to a church. Please, please, these women are often times forgotten by their own children and need to be reminded that we care. We will all be elderly some day. We all will want to be loved and cared about. I truly believe that by doing this good deed, you will get good in return. We are a large congregation. There are a group of us called Afterburn that go out after our service and try to make a difference in some way in the community. This Sunday, we would like to take flowers to these Moms. If you can help, or if you know someone who can, please let me know. Time is running out. We will come and get them. Or you are more than welcome to participate and come with us to deliver them on Sunday.
Thank you so much!
Julie

A group of international volunteers is invited to help in the organization of sport events and also to participate in social activities to support the local native people of the Yucatan Peninsula. You are not required to work with violent people,
and we have our own law enforcement liaison generally made up of off
duty police officers.

The majority of the people will really appreciate being able to work.
The difference between our paper and others is that the people either
have to "buy" the paper from the publisher for 30¢ or more, or they
get a percentage of the sales revenue from the paper.

Our paper gives 100% of the cover price of the paper to the vendor.
They do not buy the paper, they 'receive' it free. All they have to
do to continue working is to represent the paper responsibly, not
throw papers away, or on the streets, in short, do the right thing.

The Circulation Crew Manager will take bundles of papers to the
given areas, and distribute bundles of 50 papers to each person who
wants to participate. You do NOT provide transportation as a rule
to any person(s)/vendor(s). The city bus company has a free pass
program that we will tap into to help those who need transport.

You will instruct persons on the procedures and guidelines of the
newspaper with regard to how to sell the paper, what vendors can
and cannot do, where they can and cannot sell, and 'how' it must
be done according to the city(s) ordinance(s).

It would be good if you have a digital camera, because we would
like to highlight vendors in the paper as well, and get their
story on how they became homeless and/or unemployed, and what their
situation is to get on their feet.

We are NOT a non-profit organization, and we accept no donations
and/or financial contributions. As the paper grows, this can lead
to a good part time job.

This is most suitable for a man who is in good physical condition,
possibly a security background, someone very patient, understanding,
strong character and the ability to work with groups of up to 50 men (and
women) at a time.

We are also looking for one or two assistants to the CCM. The area is an agricultural settlement and the region grows paddy, coconuts, arecanuts, black pepper, vanilla, exotic varieties of mangoes, exotic varieties of bananas and the famous tasty cashew nuts.
