After being let go from my union job, I was given the runaround and cold shoulder by my union even after I proved my case in court. All they ever did for me was pee down my back and tell me it's raining.

The career union reps and many elected ones don't deserve jobs anyway. Every time they open their mouths they subtract from the sum of all human knowledge.
<br>

Unions had their day when they actually stood for something and upheld their members' rights. Nowadays unions like the IBEW, CWA and UAW are in bed with management -they agree to coexist because companies like Verizon, AT&T and automakers know the value of good and bad public relations.

The county health department rode my tail frequently when I forgot to mow one of my lawns for... okay, after a month or two, I kinda deserve a swift kick. But the most recent issue has gone too far. They assessed me a $100 fee for having my grass and weeds too high (on the date in question, they were roughly 5 inches high... within legal parameters), and for supposedly having rubbish lying about (and it must have been invisible rubbish, because I didn't see it).

I say, if they can fine me for not keeping up my end of the bargain, I can fine them in kind for their screw-ups. I pay my taxes, and for that I deserve sidewalks that aren't covered with logs and overgrown foliage. I also deserve ramps onto and off of the sidewalks, so I don't have to hope (which has already cost me a brand-new tire).

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to send in your gripes about what the city is supposed to do, but isn't doing. Things like potholes that have been there Forever, as if half the seasons aren't nicknamed "road repair" around here. Fallen trees on park land, giving a prime breeding ground to brown recluse and black widow spiders where children play and the rest of us relax. Government employees being dispatched to do a job, who end up playing basketball on OUR dime (don't know about you, but it cost me more than a dime...). Government employees blocking traffic lanes, littering, and other such things. Police flagrantly disobeying the law, possibly putting others at risk, because they think they can get away with it.

Just write to me, and I'll be the bug in their collective asses. Government will walk all over citizens who think it can -- they will not walk all over me. So send me your every gripe, and please be as specific as possible.

When the House of Representatives takes up arms against $4 gas by voting 324-84 to sue OPEC, you know that election-year discourse has gone surreal. Another unmistakable sign is when a presidential candidate makes a gaffe, then, realizing it is too egregious to take back without suffering humiliation, decides to make it a centerpiece of his foreign policy.

Before the Democratic debate of July 23, Barack Obama had never expounded upon the wisdom of meeting, without precondition, with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Bashar al-Assad, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jong Il or the Castro brothers. But in that debate, he was asked about doing exactly that. Unprepared, he said sure -- then got fancy, declaring the Bush administration's refusal to do so not just "ridiculous" but "a disgrace."

After that, there was no going back. So he doubled down. What started as a gaffe became policy. By now, it has become doctrine. Yet it remains today what it was on the day he blurted it out: an absurdity.
<br>
<br>
Should the president ever meet with enemies? Sometimes, but only after minimal American objectives -- i.e. preconditions -- have been met. The Shanghai communique was largely written long before Richard Nixon ever touched down in China. Yet Obama thinks Nixon to China confirms the wisdom of his willingness to undertake a worldwide freshman-year tyrants tour.

Most of the time you don't negotiate with enemy leaders because there is nothing to negotiate. Does Obama imagine that North Korea, Iran, Syria, Cuba and Venezuela are insufficiently informed about American requirements for improved relations?
<br>
<br>
There are always contacts through back channels or intermediaries. Iran, for example, has engaged in five years of talks with our closest European allies and the International Atomic Energy Agency, to say nothing of the hundreds of official U.S. statements outlining exactly what we would give them in return for suspending uranium enrichment.
<br>
<br>
Obama pretends that while he is for such "engagement," the cowboy Republicans oppose it. Another absurdity. No one is debating the need for contacts. The debate is over the stupidity of elevating rogue states and their tyrants, easing their isolation and increasing their leverage by granting them unconditional meetings with the president of the world's superpower.
<br>
<br>
Obama cited Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman as presidents who met with enemies. Does he know no history? Neither Roosevelt nor Truman ever met with any of the leaders of the Axis powers. Obama must be referring to the pictures he's seen of Roosevelt and Stalin at Yalta, and Truman and Stalin at Potsdam. Does he not know that at that time Stalin was a wartime ally?

During the subsequent Cold War, Truman never met with Stalin. Nor Mao. Nor Kim Il Sung. Truman was no fool.
<br>
<br>
Obama cites John Kennedy meeting Nikita Khrushchev as another example of what he wants to emulate. Really? That Vienna summit of a young, inexperienced, untested American president was disastrous, emboldening Khrushchev to push Kennedy on Berlin -- and then near fatally in Cuba, leading almost directly to the Cuban missile crisis. Is that the precedent Obama aspires to follow?

A meeting with Ahmadinejad would not just strengthen and vindicate him at home, it would instantly and powerfully ease the mullahs' isolation, inviting other world leaders to follow. And with that would come a flood of commercial contracts, oil deals, diplomatic agreements -- undermining precisely the very sanctions and isolation that Obama says he would employ against Iran.

<br>
As every seasoned diplomat knows, the danger of a summit is that it creates enormous pressure for results. And results require mutual concessions. That is why conditions and concessions are worked out in advance, not on the scene.
<br>
<br>
What concessions does Obama imagine Ahmadinejad will make to him on Iran's nuclear program? And what new concessions will Obama offer? To abandon Lebanon? To recognize Hamas? Or perhaps to squeeze Israel?
<br>
<br>
Having lashed himself to the ridiculous, unprecedented promise of unconditional presidential negotiations -- and then having compounded the problem by elevating it to a principle -- Obama keeps trying to explain. On Sunday, he declared in Pendleton, Ore., that by Soviet standards Iran and others "don't pose a serious threat to us." (On the contrary. Islamic Iran is dangerously apocalyptic. Soviet Russia was not.) The next day in Billings, Mont.: "I've made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave."

That's the very next day, mind you. Such rhetorical flailing has done more than create an intellectual mess. It has given rise to a new political phenomenon: the metastatic gaffe. The one begets another, begets another, begets ...

- Jews are white , are they not? Jewish were persecuted not only through the Holocaust but also many other times.They were ran out of England by the Catholic church who claimed that "God will Damn England if it is not bathed of it's filth." The jewish were persecuted by the millions during the holocaust- sentenced to wrongful deaths by S.S Officers guns, Gas Chambers, and work camps that harbored starvation and abuse; often providing little to no salvation and still ultimately - death.

The Irish- Also white- were persecuted when they migrated to the U.S in the late 1800's. Thought of as dirty and unintelligent- They were greeted with signs in store fronts that read "Irish need not apply." Made to live in what you would now call " the ghetto" in closely confined quarters often with more than one family to a house.

There are many more groups of people that over the years were persecuted in america by not only the Whites but also by the Blacks. - The unfair imprisonment of Japanese americans- both Natural born citizens and otherwise- during the war.

As they were forced into internment camps by the american government for "security purposes."

As well as the persecution of the chinese as "cheap labor" with little or no rights to be heard of.
<br>

And now present day racial discrimination is laid upon the head of ALL Middle Eastern and Hispanic Cultures alike.

Persecuted as being terrorists Middle Easterns who are not even close to that of the decent of Iraq are being persecuted for their religion as well as their ethnicity. Thought of as a Whole- The Muslim religion and its followers have become the scape goat for America's modern racist. Innocent americans have been harrassed- or if worse- harmed for the crimes of others- due to the fear and ignorance of todays public.

Alike that to the Irish, Japanese and Chinese- Hispanics ( Legal or otherwise) have become the newest generation of second class citizens. Thought of as unintelligent due to a languade barrier and persecuted for migrating to the U.S in order to escape an oppresive government and a poverty level well below that of America's.

Even though I don't need to I'll even throw Rwanda in to this. The massacre's throughout Rwanda were by their own people! Blacks against other Blacks. Hundreds of thousands of people were murdered by people of the same race- By their neighbors and collegues just due to a difference of opinion.

I'm not going to slander a man for presenting his opinions, but I will correct his facts.
<br>

First it was the Dutch, not the British, who started the slave trade.
<br>

Secondly slavery was not, and still has not been ended. Even in this good ol' United States, enslaved women and children are trafficked behind the back of Uncle Sam. People trafficking is alive and well in the international market.

Thirdly, men should not be credited beyond their time. The civil war, for example, was as much or moreso about the taxation on the south due to their "unfair free labor" than it was about liberation of the black man. White men from Lincoln to Kennedy, credited for being kind to the black man, often didn't intend on him actually being equal. Instead they simply were uncomfortable with seeing the unbalanced burden he had to bare.

Henceforth it was the efforts of those minorities, from racial movements such as the civil rights movement and protests of immigrant harvesters (as led by Ceasar Chavez) to gender equality movements such as the feminest movements of the 70s and the gay rights movement of the 80s, that forced the hand of the establishment (the american white man, so to speak) to move by turning public attention and opinion to their cause.

I will agree with the initial posters premise on one count. Individuals who segregate themselves on the premise of the color of their skin (african american, mexican american) do so to create a fellowship. However this fellowship also creates an exclusion of those who do not meet specific criteria. To paraphrase Hallie Sellassi I,

On a final note, I would like to speak out about the "closet muslim" remark. If you are a fan of the ammendments, then I assume you to be a fan of the declaration of independence. <u>"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness"</u>. Even if Barack Obama were a closet muslim, does this tennet provide for him the right to seek the highest office in the land. Well, perhaps not... it is commonly understood that America is a christian nation, the first ammendment (separation of church and state) not withstanding. But what if it weren't? The founding fathers, by majority, can be shown to have spurned most religious practice, and the Treaty of Tripoli, as signed by John Adams, states without a doubt that America was intended to be a secular nation.
