I'm an Angel....are you? You can be! You can support a U.S. deployed soldier by sending letters, cards or care packages to them as they fight in the name of freedom. A lot of our military folks that are deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and around the world sometimes feel like they are forgotten and not supported in what they do. Many don't have (or hear from their) families, and get no mail. And in a lot of cases, they just crave the basic comforts of home, yummy snacks, and news from the U.S.A. This is NOT about whether or not you support the war...it's about showing these guys/gals that we support them and the sacrifices they make each and every day. Visit www.soldiersangels.org and find out what you can do to show your patriotism and pride in our military forces. There are 1,000s of soldiers waiting to hear from an "Angel" like you!

If you truly did lose your husband in Iraq, you have my most sincere apologies. However, there are alot of scams going on right now and yours struck a cord within me.

When a military member perishes in the line of duty, there is an immediate payout. It is to cover bills, rent/mortage etc. Usually it is between 10-20K dollars but since the war it has increased signifigantly.
As well your husband would've had an SGLI, mandatory.

The Red Cross, Navy Marine Corp Relief can help you out with loans and food but it worries me that you are on CL asking for money.
Please contact someone on the base, and let them know of your dire circumstances; a minister/chaplain, your late husbands ombudsman, your spouses CO/XO, a doctor etc--they can make sure all aspects of this troublesome time are taken care of.

Please know that I have been with military spouses who have faced exactly what you are dealing with. I have listed some links to help you with getting the aid you need.

http://www.redcross.org
http://www.nmcrs.org/
http://www.soldiersupportfoundation.org/
www.OperationHomefront.net
www.americasupportsyou.mil

I have forwarded on your information and post on to the local Red Cross agency. Hi. I am trying to get my son some help. He is progressively getting out of control. Not from lack of supervision/parenting. I don’t have the answer neither did the consoler who I tried to get to help us before it was to this point. This child has an above average IQ and is very strong willed. I have finally found a group that may be able to help get his behavior in control and to give me more skills to help deal with this very strong willed child that I gave birth to and love very much. It takes a lot to ask and be humble, but he is worth it and I’m trying to keep faith, stay strong, and not give-up as many parents these days do although sometimes it’s hard. I believe he can be saved if we can raise enough money to get him into this program. I am disabled and with VERY limited income and also raising grandchildren too so if you can help this family or point me in the direction of a place that can; please let me know. If I can raise $450.-$500. that should cover the cost of the program and some of the gas to get back and forth. If the director doesn’t mind you can even pay it in on our behalf. Even a dollar would help. I’m at my wits end and don’t know where to turn from here. I always turn to God first, but sometimes he wants us to do every thing we can first. The program is called camp consequences. I am a single mother and try to be the best dad I can, but obviously it isn’t enough.

Most of our Ambassadors are retirees who volunteer to give back to the community, engage in regular exercise, and partake in fellowship and fun with our travelers. I am writing to get help for a disabled person.

This person lives on $817 a month, plus $34 a month foodstamps. She is unable to pay for the services she needs, and when she went to the agencies to get help they told her that she needed to be in an assisted living facility.

She has told me she would rather die that to live in an assisted living facility. She lived in one for 9 months and the stories she told me about it are horible.

Her family is of no help as they think she is "faking for attention".

She is 34 and has a mental illness (schizophrania i hope i spelled that right). She is very obese also so she thinks she should not eat.... the problem with this is that when she does not eat and she takes her meds she get very sick... She has trouble concentrating so usually when she is hungry she makes a sandwich instead of cooking a meal, which I think is fine, but her family usually screams at her for eating bread.

Anyways as to what she needs...

she needs someone to help her clean her kitchen at least once a week, she is able to rise the the dishes and stack them in the sink, so it wont be real nasty lol
she needs someone who can fill up her medicine box PROPERLY every week because she gets confused taking them from the bottle she can't remember if she took them or not so sometimes she takes them twice or sometimes she thinks she already took them and doesn't take them
she needs someone to call her at 10am and 10pm EVERY DAY to remind her to take her meds (SHE FORGETS)
most of all she needs some friends, someone to talk to about her problems (other than her dr and therapis, and of course me)...
her family is not helping at all.

She had her doctor call her mom and try to explain her illness to her and her mom told her that the doctor would say anything she was paid to say....

Maybe the person who is cleaning can cook something for her, so at least once a week she can have a real meal...

I can't help her as I am in CA and she is in FL.

She is not dangerous... she is the sweetest, kindest, person I have ever known. She loves classical music. It calms her.... and chocolate and diet soda are her favorite treats... She does smoke, but if this bothers you, just ask (nicely) and she will stop. Right now her landlord made a new rule that she is not supposed to smoke inside anyway... so she should go outside to smoke...

The worst thing about her is that she hears voices... evil voices, they are very mean to her... but she is on medication to control them. She is not a danger to herself or to anyone else, but she really could use a little help...
She goes to her doctor every other week, and talks to her doctor every week to check up and see how her medication is going and how she is...

She is not looking for rides to the doctor, we have that covored for now...

She has diabetes and highblood pressure also, and chronic ear infections (yes I know that is only supposed to happen in babies lol but she is 34 lol)

I had posted this a couple of weeks ago, but she just scared the daylights out of me, by calling me, choking on a piece of sausage. She was on her cell phone and she thought she was dialing 911 and actually dialed my speeddial. I answered on my cell, and called my local 911 and thankfully they contacted Jax Fire and Rescue. I sat there listening to her trying to breathe and cough I knew from first aid training that as long as she could cough she was ok. I talked to the fireman before they left. She caughed it up as they were walking in the door.

I need someone locally she can call in emergencies... She has been living alone for 9 months and this is only the second time she has had an emergency. The first was because a pizza place put mushrooms on her pizza. She has been afraid to order pizza since this happened. She is VERY allergic to mushrooms. That time she was in the hospital 24 hours for observation.

If you survived reading all of this, I say bless you.
If you are interested in helping at any level, please respond to the ad...
even if it is just to be a friend...

Forte International Exchange Association (FIEA) is a State-Department recognized student exchange program based in Washington, DC. Since 2000, we have brought nearly 2,000 international students to the US to study in public schools and experience American life and culture. We are currently seeking families to host students starting in the Fall of 2008. These students are selected for our program based on high academic achievement, strong English abilities, and interest in American culture. Host families receive $200 per month to host, but the real rewards are intangible: exposing your family to another culture, sharing your home and family life with a visitor from abroad, and making a personal investment in global cooperation and understanding.

Who Can Host?
• Any family willing to include the new student into their family life
• Families with or without children
• Families whose grown children have left home

As long as you have some extra love to go around, that's all you need! Somewhere in the world there is a student waiting to be matched with a family just like yours!

Please visit our website for more information: www.orgsites.com/dc/forte or email sarah@forteintl.com directly.

All interested families please contact us!
