<![CDATA[I live in 89106, MLK & Lake Mead and work in 89148, Ft. Apache & Russell, near Southern Hills Hospital--about 18 miles one way/36 RT. Would love to carpool, save $'s on gas, reduce smog, AND send a message to the BIG OIL COMPANIES! If you live/work near me perhaps we could "ride-share" & save $'s, reduce traffic & our consumption of gasoline! Also, let's ALL start thinking "outside the box", i.e., some possible solutions to traffic, smog & high gasoline prices...why not move into present day with some present day ideas? Like the 4-day/10-hr. per day work week? Or, perhaps the hotels/casinos could offer employees varying workschedules and/or allow their employees to stay in a room at their hotel/casino-work-place at reduced rates a few nights per week, thereby reducing gasoline consumption. Put the limos back to work with carpools to/from work places. (We know all those rooms will not be filled this year, and fewer limos are on our streets.) Also, while living in Houston, TX during the 90's I utilized Metro (Houston's busline). They provided Park 'n Rides all over the city, picking up those that parked their personal autos in Metro lots or businesses. Most were fairly near housing sub-divisions. The buses would transport us to certain work destinations such as Downtown, The Woodlands, etc. And, had varying times of pick up, making it convenient and extremely affordable. Even then, Houston was much larger than our fair city currently is, yet the buses only stopped at a few other Park 'n Ride's along our way and we traveled in the HOV (hi-occupancy vehicle) lane, allowing a fairly quick ride to/from work. It certainly cut down on gasoline consumption and saved money! Plus we were able to relax, read the paper, listen to music, sleep or eat our yogurt & granola bars--does anyone work for CAT? (LOL!) We live in a GREAT city, where many "locals" have no idea how bad traffic can be like in LA or Houston, TX, etc. But Las Vegas currently has a HUGE advantage; LV is well situated to instigate nation-wide changes ("CSI," "Vegas", EVERYTHING "Vegas"). Let's see if we can think of ways to make the BIG oil companies take some "hits" from the people of our fair city, which could eventually become a tidal-wave, washing over this nation, then we would be proud that Las Vegans started a "positive wave" for our nation's and it's peoples' more positive future! We must become proactive and DO SOMETHING--ANYTHING--to get the high cost of gasoline, smog and our stress levels back in check. Just think about it. ]]>
