Al Carlos Hernandez
www.LatinoLA.com

The L.A. Latin Jazz Festival 2008 May 10th produced by one of my oldest friends East Coast Eddie Rodriguez featured Eddie Palmieri plus The Latin Giants of Jazz (former members of Tito Puente Orchestra) with invited guests Dave Valentin, Oreste Vilato, Alfredo De La Fe Plus, The Jazz on the Latin Side All-Stars featuring Conga Master Francisco Aguabella and guest bongo player Actor Andy Garcia. The show was a critical success; the bar has been set high as this gig was the first of the concert season at the Greek in LA.

I knew about the gig for months as Eddie labored in putting the show together, this gig was to be his crème de la crème the first time his name figured first on the poster at the producer. Eddie and I go back to the Spanish radio days, he has moved up the ranks coast to coast working with the who’s who of Salsa and Latin Jazz, he was Tito Puente’s last manager, the cat who took Tito from 10G’s a Night to 40G, putting 15 large in his pocket every time he hit the stage.

For those who don’t know, concerts start months, weeks, days, and hours before the first tune is counted off. Back in the radio days Eddie was one of a group of eclectic radio ritmo pioneers that include, a Pastor, An International TV President and a Professor, we rode three deep to celebrate and or commiserate our Brothers legends event.

I knew things were popping off when Flautist Dave Valentin charged out of the elevator at the Wilshire Grand looking for his card key, Orestes Vilato met Pastor in the elevator, looking like a lost uncle, remembering Pastor from SF when he was El Salsero Mayor. Suffering from coffee deprivation I meandered into the lobby where Eddie was holding court, the band gathered around dressed in street clothes looking like a court appointed field trip.

G’ed Up, that night Pastor and I took a Cab to the Palms, the driver came up short with change, he pleaded, “I will not be having troubles, with gentlemen who own faces like yours”. TV Pres Vito met us at the table, and threw down his black card with a big five whack, like playing dominos on a folding card table in a barrio backyard BBQ, Vito never forgot his roots, we ate 50 dollar steaks and forgot why we came at the first place. Eddie’s blackberry juiced relentlessly, the concert with its many problems now hours away.

The Greek is located in Griffith Park, the way there lined with stilted million dollar homes, but no Homies. Three hours early the staff was making it ready, from the stage looking out and up a typewriter shelf of empty red seats stretched to the tree line.
Standing below two garage door sized blank big screens, amidst huge flat black electronic boxes snakes of thick fiber optic hoses, and band members who wore the first thing they found, did the sound check, testing each mike and monitor and Eddie was the conductor. Tattooed union tech folks mumbled into headsets, as the place was filling up, Eddie didn’t want to look outward. What of you gave a party for 6 thousand and only a few hundred showed up? Rodriguez is a scarred veteran of concert wars passed, he is good at selling out Madison Square Garden in New York, but LA don’t care and local promoters don’t mind a player hate.

…And then it was Show Time. One, two, One- Two –Three, Four…The Gon-Bops of the Congas, the deep hummed thumps of the acoustic Bass, the angelic wind curtain of shiny gold saxophones, silver trumpets, and the golden voice of Adonis, Los Latinos changed the atmosphere for the next four hours nonstop, he knew then, the gig was going to work and it did.

What made the experience legendary was its special Guests; Alfredo De La Fe, known as the Jimi Hendrix of the Violin, jamming with Dave Valentin, who found his room card then proceeded to talk through his flute, Master drummer Francisco Aguabella, who did symphonic counter rhythms’ on conga and of course Eddie Palmieri who received a special BMI award that night.

Ladies and Gentlemen as a part of a tribute to the late maestro Cachco, on Bongos Mr. Andy Garcia, the place (read all –of- the- women) roared, he smiled didn’t say a word, his playing spoke for him, and the Godfather III could play.

Major respect to Grace the meal lady, actress Wanda De Jesus, Actor Ishmael Coto for making the LA Experience what it is.

Big up to The Pastor who ministered to the minstrels, Vito who still does a cool hang with cats like us, Tania Eddie’s Daughter for believing in Pops, and East Coast Eddie Rodriguez for letting us be a part of the dream, you may not know it but you are a Latin legend of Jazz yourself Homie.

Tu sabes como eh.

boycot!!!!! all of those ppl who try to sell concert tickets they buy for face value, and go around and sell them for ridiculous amounts of money rather than the actual ticket master values. its not fair that these jerkes are paying face value and going around and selling them for wat they want! trying to make a quick buck, trust me the more ppl who refuse to buy from these morons the better! they will eventually give up and then the real fans will be able to see their favorite artist w/out paying obsene amounts of money! please pass this on to everyone you know!!!!!!!!!!

On June 9, 10 and 11, 2008, http://www.watchmyvideoresume.com will be hosting the first, live, virtual career fair for Southern California. Employers and applicants will be able to meet, ask questions interview and hire from the comfort of their offices and homes on the Watch My Video Resume website.

Watch My Video Resume has launched. Career seekers are now able to create a professional business profile with their resume, upload a video resume and search for careers online. Applicants can also interview on the Watch My Video Resume website by either live video conference, live video private chat, or instant messaging without video.

According to T. M. Phenezy, CEO and Founder, Watch My Video Resume is giving away a 15 day free trial to introduce its services to career seekers. ‘We understand that it is extremely expensive for employers to find a new, quality employee’, says Ms. Phenezy. ‘Many resume services charge hundreds of dollars just to have access to resumes for a week. Plenty of these resumes are outdated and a waste of time of money.’ Ms. Phenezy also says that with the cost of gas, it is very costly to drive to various locations to interview. ‘If you live in a state where traffic is abundant, career seekers tend to only want to accept interviews very close to home.’

Watch My Video Resume has developed a cutting edge, unique and efficient way to search for the dream career without wasting time and money. ‘We are extremely excited’, says Ms. Phenezy. ‘At the low cost of $30 a month for career seekers and $150 a month for employers, we have made our services very affordable. Since most people don’t pay for services they aren’t using, the majority of the profiles, resumes and job listings on our site will be current’.

Founded by a Marine Corps Veteran, Entrepreneur and Mom, Watch My Video Resume is positioned to lead the online resume industry. On June 9, 10 and 11, 2008, Watch My Video Resume is expecting approximately 500 career seekers and 75 employers for its first career fair. Hello all, (10 million decent, compassionate & understanding People in LA County), hope all is well with you all. Obviously, so many of you all have been affected in one way or another by the utmost, utterly appalling & despicable corruption, etc of local LA City & County government. Some say it sounds like mob stuff, other's say City Attorney Rocky D's been paid off to keep his mouth shut, meanwhile, "LADBS", etc, but especially "LADBS" seem to exhibit that they can & will run their agency however they see fit, no matter if low income former tenant's such as myself, whom had successful & positive tenancy & residency at: 719 North Heliotrope Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90029, where for 2 1/2 year's I stood up on behalf of fellow tenant's & community/neighborhood in improvement & tenant advocacy (even Matt Zeigler - area's Senior Lead officer of Rampart even supported my effort's, spent my own money to (try) and beautify & even had 7 LADWP night night's installed in area, I was involved, thus, civil code: 1942.5 is what happened to me & no free legal would help us tenant's, & we couldn't afford a regular legal defense, thus, thing's like this have occurred for too long - utmost, utterly appalling & despicable corruption, etc of local LA City & County government. Either LA U.S. Attorney Thomas O'Brian needs to step up of the Justice Dept needs to be called in (=) 'clean house'. I had no choice but to move out, put stuff in storage & call upon community organization to assist with temporary housing in some skid row downtown LA motel, which I've been in for over 3 month's, trying to get back on my feet. I, separately, have over 2 1/2 year's of past/previous satisfied clientele (I do 'Freelance Casual & General Labor Services), which because I did nothing wrong, & did the 'Martin Luther King, Jr" thing, re: civil rights for myself & former fellow tenant's, the city, etc have their own agenda that anyone among 10 million come up against them with suffer the consequence's. UGH! Sigh . . . Even Hollywood Hills residents have complained about plans they never followed through with. And now with Gov Arnold slashing funding unto homeless programs, I'm really hanging on a thread, on verge of losing everything. It's not right for anyone. If by chance, Victoria (213 639-0230, victoriao@portalshouse.org ) - key person of Portals, a community organization,) turns me down for funding assistance via $100/mo loan agreement for another rent control, Section 8 apt unto a new owner I found & closed paperwork/documentation with - for which that new apt is due to be available for move-in by mid Jan. My fear is that because of (?), I'm gonna lose everything, "LA Housing Authority" is not gonna wait 2 - 3 month's for me to save up move-in cost's, thus, 86 me out of Section 8 program, all & all, because I stood up, with support of former fellow tenants, community/neighborhood & area senior lead officer? This is crazy. Is there anyone among (10) million I could discuss over coffee a possible housing deal? I can voluntarily work around property/building, but an area North of Wilshire Blvd, & should I be able to keep my Section 8 - max $932/mo (=) trust me, you get all your rent & there's just an annual inspection of the specific apt unit I'd rent, whatever reasonably in which to close a deal. North Hollywood is nice. I'm just trying to cover my self, should Victoria (key person of Portals, a community organization,) not care what she's gonna set in unfortunate motion for me. If you knew me, you'd know, I'm capable of so much & stay to myself, all nice like. I got references, resume & ideally, had, & yet to be again, mini home office in apt, thus, I am business oriented & have over all great guy. Thank you so very much, hope all has a great happy new year, & hope there's someone that can assist me, playing a small part in helping me with housing in getting back on my feet. Take care, God bless. http://www.jeffreydavidmorris.com

"MySpace" Profile: http://www.myspace.com/jeffreydavidmorriscom

http://www.vois.com/user/jeffreydavidmorris

http://www.stickam.com/jeffmorris269 - (check out & listen to my audio media)

http://www.suicidegirls.com/members/jeffmorris269

RE: Joss Whedon, and ‘Faith’ personality and psychological, etc. breakdown profile, as to sum up an idea of what kind of girl I’m in search of for love, friendship, misc. Now sure, it’s not about Eliza Dushku, but she did portray the role of Faith, an actor/actress must thrust & put a part or all of themselves into the character, essentially since I’m sick of the dating, etc. scene this day in our age, and since I strongly believe that (for me) Goth is a state of mind, via one’s dark hardship’s one has endured during their existence in this mortal body. And I love hard, etc., misc. of KROC 106.7 FM, see for yourself on my website, http://www.jeffreydavidmorris.com Faith to me exists, not the vampire’s, but her personality and psychological, etc. breakdown profile, as to sum up an idea of what kind of girl I’m in search of for love, friendship, misc., thus, being Goth. Please Joss, all I ask is if you or one of your people could, would, consider compiling something for me of the (above). I’m dying inside, and I’d love to love (non – sexually) a Goth girl, but like Faith, friendship, companionship, like a bad ass girl, don’t give a fuck about nothing or anybody, is independent, cool, laid back, no body piercing, maybe a couple tattoo’s – maybe, I have none, but my heart reveals a sense of these qualities and characters. Sex to me is like what the fuck ever, it’s more music, freedom, Goth intimacy exploration like looking upon a Goth girl like she’s a new find, like (Flux) at Suicidegirls.com, but as far as I’m considered Eliza got it all started; my hope is that her boyfriend/husband kisses her ass, like the Goth Goddess she is. my feeling of being able to relate to the character, (Faith - Eliza Dushku), and being keenly interested in her personality, psychological profile, emotion's, everything, as only to see how and / or why I relate or why I think I relate to it, on a deep level. But it's not so much about Eliza as it is (Faith), but when I actress put's a part of herself into a role, it just bring's the life of the character more to life, off and out of a paper script, from one's thought up created idea. I meet her, to be blown away by her and who she is as a person and of course, her beauty, her appeasable aweness.

Just some kind of ‘Faith’ personality and psychological, etc. breakdown profile, as to sum up an idea of what kind of girl I’m in search of for love, friendship, misc.

Director’s Guild Contacts: ConnieA@dga.org, (323) 851-3671

Producers Guild Contacts: info@producersguild.org, (310) 358-9020

Then of course, there's me, no big deal right. http://www.jeffreydavidmorris.com

"MySpace" Profile: http://www.myspace.com/jeffreydavidmorriscom

http://www.vois.com/user/jeffreydavidmorris

http://www.stickam.com/jeffmorris269 - (check out & listen to my audio media)

http://www.suicidegirls.com/members/jeffmorris269

How doing right & good for others' has ruined me . . . & Now I hear recently Shahram John Saba & Pedro Puente is doing the same to other tenant's (=) "Mess with us & your finished". Thank you in advance.

Anyone who hates slum landlords/property owners, supports efforts of those whom have tried to do the 'Martin Luther King' thing (but on a smaller scale), I am such a mere guy, on behalf of my other fellow low income tenant's in our rent control building, who as a volunteer tenant advocate, and who has tried for over (2) year's (of research/homework), to help make thing's right in our building, trying to to get the city to enforce the owner to do right, but now after all has been tried to be communicated by me unto city, county and state official's, thus, all across the board, even with playing small part involvement in my community/neighborhood with paying for (voluntarily) 7 "LA DWP" night lights' on various wooden utility poles', have tried to improve the quality of life for all of us tenant's in & of our building, trying to abide my part of the lease I signed with the owner whom has clearly breeched & broken repeatedly, ugh, I don't know, guess I had faith if I kept up the cause, that the system wasn't that screwed up, that the city official's aren't what I fear, guess the thing is, for some, low income, misc but have passion for the cause to have thing's be right just end up getting crushed under the threshold of, (in this case) - our slum landlord/property owner. Sigh . . . now this 90 day notice I got end of June, which is filled with false lies by owner, & how I see no one of legal (anywhere) wants to help, thus, I'm on my own, in the cold, facing a eventual retalitory because I stood up to owner on behalf of my fellow tenant's rights; the city, misc has turned away & ignored us tenant's . . . guess I no understand nothing anymore, well, take care all, much love, God bless. http://www.jeffreydavidmorris.com

"MySpace" Profile: http://www.myspace.com/jeffreydavidmorriscom

http://www.vois.com/user/jeffreydavidmorris

http://www.stickam.com/jeffmorris269 - (check out & listen to my audio media)

http://www.suicidegirls.com/members/jeffmorris269

Are you disgusted, etc w/ disgraceful slumlords';

And if you need some online resource tool's to use, at the very bottom of this ad, that are for public use, in doing your pre - housing research, before giving whom you feel is a 'questionable' landlord/owner. Good luck & God be with you.

719 North Heliotrope Drive, LA, 90029 is a example of (slum landlord/property owner - Shahram John Saba, "Shahco, Inc"), State of California business license #: (C2153072), home: 1644 Ferrari Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, office: 1116 West Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, LA, CA 90037 & (slum on-site manager - Pedro Puente, # 308 of 719 North Heliotrope Drive, LA, 90029) abused, neglected, etc. Corrupt, ETC, as they come, ugh . . . and the city, county, state, free-legal whatever, ETC? Yeah right, they'll get right on that, NOT!!!

There is a strong, over due need for LA U.S. Attorney Thomas O'Brian &/or Justice Dept/D.C. to do a major legal "Project LA" (CLEAN HOUSE) & implement new enforcement, internal affairs, policies, ETC & legal consequences/prosecutions, (maybe even 1, 2, 3 stirke your out) unto those in local government, as there is absolutle no excuse for what has, for example, been allowed to continue for decades, a midst 10 million people in LA, if even, yet to come, this LA city & county has to be rocked to it's core foundation, starting with "LADBS", "LAHD" & across the board, especially when Congress gives funding for housing, & due to the (above) corruption, ETC, that very congress funding via unto HUD, finds it way into the bank accounts' of those whom are & have been a complete disgrace unto the real estate industry & those whom are suppose to be the legal or otherwise code enforcer's, ugh, ya see what I mean, even Hollywood Hills have complained about "LADBS" = exhibited such a pattern, since even their website reads like a nice little "Home Depot" text book, but that's not how they really are. Those in local LA power can't shut up majority of 10 million civilians'. It's just sick, & corrupt, etc unto the core (local powers) of their being. Ugh.

People of LA (as I know LA is not the only place this problem exists):

Note: There are helpful links (below).

Are you sick and tired of local city & state 'Public Office' power holder's ignoring the valid truth's & fact's, etc of slumlord's/property owner's AND slum manager's, continually being allowed to 'do business as usual', continue the 'flout the law('s) and think they can get away with it', that local city & state 'Public Office' power holder's continue to exhibit the impress that they seem to justify, support & back-up more, misc of slumlord's/property owner's AND slum manager's than the actual low-income monthly rent/profit payor's of rent control & non-rent control residental apt building's, etc? Please if you are, please be bold, be encouraged, be empowered to inform and let it be known how you feel, what's in important to you (business-wise) in this field of real estate, how this affects your live the fact that your hard earned money should stand for something in monthly rent/profit paying than what it actually does with being a renter of a residental building that has or does have any pattern of being owned by repeated & exhibited slumlord natuare and character individual's, whom exhibit being being a disgusting disgrace of not only the real estate field, but even more so have no interest in 'being right' unto the low-income monthly rent/profit payor's of rent control & non-rent control residental apt building's in LA. Even "Los Angeles City Attorney" Rocky Delgadillo (with support of Eric Garcetti) has said, The housing crisis in this city is forcing more families to work longer hours to pay the rent and make ends meet, Our families demand and deserve safe and healthy living conditions for their hard-earned dollars. No Los Angeles resident should live in squal or because unscrupulous slumlords (repeatedly flout the law and think they can get away with it), there is (no place) in Los Angeles, (in any area of the real estate field) for slum landlords', their employees' - being slum managers' AND their handymen". The LA Housing Department has repeatedly warned slum property owners'/landlords', slum managers' and their handymen to fix their premises/building's/properties (interior & exterior) regarding habitability, health related (pest control, tap water contamination due to eroded old galvenized water pipes, replacement window screens), and abiding unto all maintenance request's and inquiries from tenant's being the monthly rent/profit payor's, or face undoubtedly serious slumlord litigation prosecution and etc civil and criminal legal action unto the fullest extent of the law. Their blatant disregard for the health and safety of tenants' children and their families is deplorable, and is clearly not how real estate business of any kind should be run, allowed or dealt with. I strongly support these criminal charges and will continue working with the City Attorney in bringing additional slumlords to justice. In Los Angeles, safe, decent housing is a right. And it is a right that the city aggressively enforces". My objective is to make sure that every resident of the City of Los Angeles can live in a safe and healthy environment. My office will use the full force of the criminal justice system and the resources of our Interagency Housing Taskforce to reach this goal. No one, (no matter who they are, how much money they have, nor whom they have for legal defense), should be making money/reaping monthly rent/profit, and over-charging monthly rent with illegal 'side' utility payment's of rent control and non-rent control residental apt building's, by forcing others (be it low-income monthly rent/profit payor's) to live in substandard, lied about & ignored code enforcing conditions, and think they can get away with it. Yes, the old "Property Management Training Program" was kicked to the curb years ago; that's unfortunate. And yes there has been talk among the people that maybe some kind of "(30) minimal screening process program", and a maintained database should be created & cost effectively fit into a budget, as business protective defense's unto, say, low-income monthly rent/profit payor's of rent control & non-rent control residental apt building's, need to be seriously reviewed, discussed and brought into existance, if not only merely for the reason that so many lives are on the line, and it seems like business in some field's seem only to be exhibited more facade corruption, finanical pay-off's & contributuion's for one's silentance, overall, resulting in so many pain & hurt, etc on so many level's. This can not be allowed to continue among the masses in business, specifically, the real estate business involving low-income monthly rent/profit payor's of rent control & non-rent control residental apt building's; because the question then becomes, 'where is the love', for and unto the people, we 'Public Office' power holder's are suppose to represent, fully, untaintedly, do we not releaize that God sees all, that everything is recorded, thus, because humanity ignores the vaild, truthful, honest and factual reality of 'Free Will Usage', that being why humanity just keeps on justifying 'judgement day', thus, what? we only have ourselves to blame? Are we 'Public Office' power holder's not considered damming ourselves by our so-called, 'representing'? Has way too much (?) gotten in the way of clear, concise, etc TRUE, honest, valid, much etc 'representing', that we 'Public Office' power holder's that left 'the people' wonder, "WHAT IS GOING ON HERE". It's like almost nothing makes any sense anymore; we think thing's are ok, etc, but really, we are so blind by our (vast ?), that we've, to say the least, lost our sight in what it means to really 'represent', in the way God would be appeased. What about the past example's, even though different then, but the old king's & ruler's, etc of the past? Sure, God's Word leaves the impression that it's gonna get worse before it gets better, but is that any reason for any of us 'Public Office' power holder's to not fully understand & comprehend literally, that God has not given us more than we can handle, thus, in all the positive, proper, etc way's to 'represent', that we're not even remotely doing as much as could be done, & instead exhibiting weakness, foolishness, etc? We must be WAY better, to God's & what we REALLY DO KNOW - standard's of 'representing', otherwise, there is no point and worth in & with being in public office. For exapmple, Martin Luther King Jr's word's should mean alot more to 'Public Office' power holder's. When a potential, new law enforcement officer puts on that badge & takes that oath, that should mean something & be of such great honor. It's like the system we humanity have created is made an exhibited mockery, a joke, etc, thus, the yet to come more so, but now exhibited early minimal level of chaos and mass confusion among humanity is so existant, because us 'Public Office' power holder's don't do nearly or remotely enough of seeing the bigger picture, maybe even from God's point of view. Maybe alot more of being alone, in a room, with God would considerably be and make more sense, since the past king's & ruler's did so, and their were more exhibited times of peace, justice, enforcement. If you wish to come forth and speak, knowing God is recording everything, the (following) would be a great place to start. It's only when we stand up, and stand for what we all as individual's know is right, proper and God supporting, can we ever begin to experience, among the masses of humanity, the peace, love, and rightness of what it means to really live. The war that bgan long ago from the beginning does not have to make life worse and worse, continuing to cause so much pain, hurt, tears, etc, all of which just simply leaves God wondering why, why do we do this to ourselves? Please, contact (below), we must come together, collaborate in peace, love and valid, true & honest justice - for all, thus, we must be the peacekeeper's, to say the least, more that we ever have been before. That Section 8 client/tenant will be kicked out of the program & to finalize terminating that Section 8 client/tenant housing contract, that owner will get both share's of the rent, as that serving housing authority will cover (both) share's of the rent, & then that's it > moving on. It's just that this program has been poisoned, by not only past/previous Section 8 or (?) problematic tenant's, causing so much fearful 'risk & anxiety' in the mind's, misc of existing & potential owner's, to where, what's the point, to them? Leaving 'some' out there just looking to jump on the Section 8 band wagon, be it say, 'in the hood', & yes, I'm gonna call it like I see it via crime stats, the news, etc/misc; & a quick paycheck (you know what I mean, & yes, there are snake's out there, ya don't even know about), BECAUSE, those in city code enforcement agencies, know all too well, that this is too huge of a problem to hold accountable, & much etc, so whatever just goes on as normal, suffering lives, destroyed lives & worthy housing contract's, it's all a no - brainer, but those in power, hey, can no be bothered, so it's like, whatever, life goes on, live here, live there, live, die, who cares, & there we all are, life, humanity (=) continuing to justify the pushing of God's hand to justify Judgement Day; ya think he even wants to have a Judgement Day? Uh, NO!, but yeah, the 7th day is what was always suppose to exist, not all this to date, thus, God doesn't give more than we can handle, we got no excuse, all got 'free will', sigh . . . ugh. Bad News for Prop. 99
Proponents of the sham measure Prop. 99 continue to receive crushing reviews from Newspapers across the state. For the past several months, local government interests, including
the League of California Cities and the California State Association
of Counties, have spent millions of dollars touting Prop. 99 as
ironclad protection for Californians who fear having their homes
seized by local governments to be turned over to private developers
for strip-malls and other for-profit projects.

But the list of property rights experts who reject this claim is
growing. This is because Prop. 99 includes significant loopholes
that will allow public agencies to continue to forcibly seize owner
occupied homes and give them to wealthy and politically connected
developers, even if the measure wins voter approval.

According to the Institute for Justice (IJ), an independent
non-profit organization that represented Susette Kelo before the
U.S. Supreme Court in the controversial Kelo v. New London case,
public agencies could circumvent Prop. 99's purported homeowner
protections by merely rezoning residential neighborhoods for
business use.

IJ's independent analysis states: "... Prop 99 only applies to
owner-occupied residences when the government's 'purpose' is to
convey property to another private party, so it is unclear if Prop.
99 would protect any property. Government can always claim that its
purpose is something else. For example, under the Prop. 99 'purpose'
test, a government could change the zoning of an area -- from
residential to commercial, for example -- and then, with the alleged
purpose of making the properties in the area meet the new zoning
requirements, use eminent domain to transfer homes to private
developers."

It is no wonder that IJ concludes that "Prop 99 will do little to
prevent eminent domain abuse in California -- and this flaw is
fatal."

In addition to rezoning, Prop. 99 includes several other loopholes
within its exemption clauses that discredits backers' claims that it
protects California homes. Prop. 99 fails to reform overly broad
blight designations that allow any modest home or productive
business to be seized by eminent domain, it allows private to
private takings by preserving the Kelo definition of what is a
legitimate "public use," and finally, it fails to define its health
and safety, and so-called emergency exemptions.

Are these fatal flaws the result of drafting mistakes, or by design?
Given that the associations representing public agencies and
politicians employ some of the most experienced experts in land use
and redevelopment, it is a good bet that it is their intent to fool
voters.

But they are not fooling everyone, especially those under the threat
of eminent domain. Jerome Hymes lives in the North San Diego County
community of Vista where the city has plans to extend their
redevelopment zone to more than 4,000 acres!

While Prop. 99 purports to protect all homes if one has lived in the
home more than one year, Mr. Hymes knows that Prop. 99 will not stop
the City of Vista from bulldozing his home of more than 10 years.
This was confirmed when the city council recently endorsed Prop. 99.
After all, local officials are not about to endorse a measure that
would threaten their ability to use eminent domain to acquire the
homes desperately needed for their ambitious redevelopment project!

Consider the implication of this mother of all loopholes for the
state as a whole. According to the Municipal Officials for
Redevelopment Reform (MORR), "Fully 30% of all urbanized land in
California has now been declared blighted." It is truly amazing how
large this "loophole" is getting and to what extent proponents of
Prop. 99 have gone to deny Californians private property
protections!

And Prop. 99 does not protect businesses, family farmers or places
of worship. So with its many homeowner exemptions and loopholes,
does anyone really benefit from the passage of Prop. 99? Yes, it
benefits politicians and their favored developer allies, because
under Prop. 99 eminent domain abuse would continue unabated.

As we near the June election, California voters will certainly learn
more about Prop. 99 and its many loopholes -- and to what length
those who have the power of eminent domain will go to maintain their
power.

Jon Coupal is President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association
-- California's largest taxpayer organization -- which is dedicated
to the protection of Proposition 13 and promoting taxpayers' rights.
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, the California Farm Bureau
Federation and the California Alliance to Protect Private Property
Rights are the sponsors of Proposition 98. Prop. 98 is the only
measure appearing on the June ballot that protects all private
property from private to private takings, while allowing traditional
uses of eminent domain for roads, schools and water projects. The
measure is endorsed by NFIB, the Hispanic Chambers of Commerce and a
diverse coalition of taxpayer, faith and good government
organizations.

For more information on Prop. 98, visit
http://www.yesprop98.com

This column can be found on the HJTA website at
http://www.HJTA.org/commentaryV6-18

Taco Lovers and Crusaders for Social Justice,

Mexican wrestling has its Rudos, the villainous luchadores who use dastardly tactics to win their matches. (Think of the old folding-chair routine when the referee isn’t looking.) In Los Angeles, we have the bureaucrats who hope to push through oppressive legislation without garnering attention who then plug their ears with their fingers when swamped with our collective outrage.

The County Board of Supervisors’ new ordinance that will effectively eliminate Taco Trucks in unincorporated Los Angeles County goes into effect at 12:00 AM on Thursday morning. Accordingly, we’re having a little get-together to celebrate this wheeled Angeleno culinary institution, while lamenting the myopic politicians who think they know what’s best for us. Meet us Wednesday night in East Los Angeles at Tacos El Galuzo at 5555 Whittier Blvd. between 8 PM and 12 AM. You’ll be supporting Juan Torres, a truck owner directly affected by the new law, and you’ll get to eat good cheap food while enjoying the company of like-minded people. Sr. Torres’ truck isn’t far from numerous other East LA mainstays, so plan an eastside odyssey and add us to your itinerary.
