The SOS Children's Village is situated in the centre of Viet Tri City, the capital of Phu Tho Province. The first children moved into SOS Children's Village Viet Tri in 1999. There are now about 168 orphans living in 15 families under the care of the village mothers and staff. The orphans come from 5 different provinces in the north of Vietnam, and are at the ages between 1 and 18.

Volunteers will help planting vegetable inside the village, cleaning the area, organizing games and social activities for children, teaching English to the children and encouraging them to learn better. WHO WE ARE:

The Promoting Academics thru Creative Expression or P.A.C.E., as it is more commonly referred, is an exciting musical education and entertainment program that is sweeping the Los Angeles Unified Middle and Senior High School area by storm. Each show carries this important message: FIND POSITIVE WAYS TO EXPRESS YOURSELF AND STAY IN SCHOOL. That is what this is all about.

The dropout rate is increasing every year among all races and ethnicities. Students are bored, unmotivated, and looking for reasons to stay or even attend school. One reason is ENTERTAINMENT with a message.

The P.A.C.E. program is a fast paced 50 to 55 minute show that is a multi-media experience. From the start, students are drawn to the Power Point presentation involving an overview of the adverse effects of dropping out of school. This is followed by a musical performance.

The P.A.C.E. program is marketed to youth ages 11 to 18 who are currently enrolled in school, those who can then reach out to their family and community to spread the word about how education can change not only you, but also every generation that comes from you. There is power in nurturing your talents thru education.

Like in the neighbouring countries where they also live, they face in Thailand strong difficulties to be recognised and to value their particularities. The AFECT organisation contributes since 1981 to the defence of their rights, youth empowerment, elders support and cultural preservation and study. The volunteers will learn about their culture and problematic situation and contribute to AFECT projects and the daily life of the Akha villages.
The main objective of the project is cultural exchange between the volunteers and the local villagers but the participants of the project will also practically work in the communities doing several kinds of support and development works, like renovation of some community spaces or field works and farming with the villagers. The exact nature of the work will depend of the needs of the village at the moment of the project.

Special requirements: No special Profile is required for this project. Nature lovers, ethnology fans and human rights activists will be particularly interested by this project. A large adaptability is required from the volunteers in any cases for these projects.

This project will take place in Reykjanesbær which is a major center of fishing and fish processing, although in recent years tourism has played an increasingly important role in the local economy. Reykjanes has something for everyone. Steeped in a rich vein of history, folklore and tradition, the region is also home to some of the world's greatest geological wonders, including the Reykjanes Ridge, meeting place of the Eurasian and American continental plates. Teeming with a wealth of bird and marine life whose habitats lie amid some of Iceland's most spectacular coastal scenery, Reykjanes is the natural choice for all lovers of the outdoors.
In this town, the authorities are very open for new ideas, for example here you can find the former NATO base which is now becoming a University village and a centre of art and film making.

The authorities are now planning to build “a home for Trolls” near to the port of the town, close to the center. Like elves, trolls are also part of the ancient heritage of the Scandinavian mythology. Although they are human-like in form, they are still inhumanly strong, huge and ugly. They are very often thought to be fearsome and cruel creatures. But, like elves, trolls often treat people as they are treated and they return favors for favors, exerting vengeance if harmed. Trolls live in mountains, caves and cliffs, especially bird cliffs. Like humans, they live together socially. They fish, cultivate land and keep animals. They are also very good at handicrafts and hold feasts.

There is a very well known art group here in Iceland called Nordan Bál that has been doing all kind of art and performances in Iceland. This group will do the construction of the Cave (home) of the Trolls and also make the furniture and other things that they need for their daily life. Everything will be oversized so it will fit the big creatures. The international volunteers will help the art group to build the home and will also do some environmental work in the area around the place. Please notice that we will work with heavy things so the work can be physically demanding.

Now is such a time. We immediately need a bottle feeder for a litter of five Jack Russell Terrier puppies. Here's the deal: We would bring you the puppies and you would be their primary caretaker for as many weeks (up to their 8th week) as you're willing. If you have no experience, no problem -- we're happy to train you. :) All you need to provide is the place, time, love, and patience to feed these cutie pies.

If you can't do it this time but can at another time, please let me know, and we'll hook you up next time a litter comes in to the shelter.

The availability of clean drinking water is taken for granted each and every day by millions of people. For each of those lucky individuals, there are two who have no reliable source of clean safe water. Build community bathrooms and teach the importance of hygiene to prevent the spread of sickness and disease. Drill wells, build cisterns, and aqueducts to get clean water to homes and cities. You don’t have to be an engineer or wealthy to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate; you just need to try.

We are looking for a optimistic and enthusiastic volunteer who can offer at least 1 hour of service per week between the hours of 3:00pm and 6:00pm on Monday - Friday. The volunteer should be someone who is genuinely looking to make a positive change in a child's life. We are specifically looking for someone who has a talent they are willing to lead the students during an enrichment activity (Painting, Writing, Drawing, Math, Science, SAT workshops, and everything in between). This is a great way to give to those who are less fortunate in our society.
