Roberts of Veterinary Specialist of South Florida: 9/8/07 Please forward this message all BCVMA (Broward County Veterinary Medical Association) members. Alert all pet owners to not feed their dogs and/or cats any "chicken jerky" treats. The treats in question were produced in China. We have treated a number of patients with tubular renal disease causing Fanconi-like syndrome in dogs who have eaten such treats. These patients present with symptoms of polyurina/polydypsia, vomiting, anorexia and abdominal pain. They are also isosthenuric or hyposthenuric. All patients have classic biochemical markers of Fanconi: normoglycemia, metabolic acidosis, hypokalemia, glucosuria +/- ketonuria. It appears that this Fanconi-like syndrome is permanent and patients require change in diet and life-long therapy with Dr. Gonto's protocol which can be found on the internet: <a href="http://basenjihealth.org/FanconiProtocol.pdf." rel="nofollow">http://basenjihealth.org/FanconiProtocol.pdf.</a> Please contact Dr. Brian Roberts if you suspect a case. We took her in after she was abandoned in front of a shopping center at approximately 4 or 5 weeks of age. We didn't think she would make it through the night, but now after two weeks, she is doing great. She is litter-box trained and eating solid (canned) kitten food; she is not yet eating dry kitten food. She is very loving and affectionate, and loves being around people. I cannot keep her since I already have 2 cats of my own. She needs to go to loving people who will promise to care for her indoors and make her part of their family. <![CDATA[Hello everyone. Little Larry is a small (12 pounds but should be 9-10... he's on a diet) terrier mix. To me, he looks part yorkie (I do yorkie rescue) and part schnauzer. I only have the belly band on him in the picture because I didn't know how houstrained he was. He has not had an accident inside yet. Whatever he is, he is a sweetheart. He was rescued from the pound on his last day He received all his shots, deworming, heartworm test (negative), microchipping, and frontline treatment. I also gave him a dose of heartgard and gave him a Looooong bath. :) He is very loving and just needs a good home. Email me with any questions about little Larry. The adoption fee is $60, exactly what you would pay at the pound. All donations go straight back to rescuing more animals. I think this would work for Cocker Spaniels or similar sized dogs/puppies. The crate comes with a divider panel and two doors; one in the front and one on the side for easy access. This crate could also be used to house two small dogs (separated). I only used this crate for 3 months before my puppy outgrew it, it is in PERFECT, LIKE NEW condition.
