I worked part-time for a year at Little Sprouts Home Day Care, a private day care located in Schiller Park, IL. There, I worked mostly with infants and young toddlers. If the caregiver apologized and acted like they were trying at home to curve this behavior that would be one thing but it sounds like she is just excussing it. It probably happens during the day also when you arent there. Kids at that age cant express themselves with words so some resort to hitting,bitting, or pushing but we as parents/caregivers need to guide them in another direction and believe me it is work but it pays off. Consistant redirecting and stopping to teach them how to deal with things will pay off when they are older and have conflict. I know, mine are 16 and 11 years old now. I see how all of these things we do as they are toddlers even pays off when they are school age. Maybe you need to start looking for other care. It never hurts to look and see what else is out there for your child. Good luck and remember it is your child and she needs to come first not the feelings of the caregiver when and if you decide to leave. Your family comes first. I know it sounds harsh but you are the only advocate for your child right now. Put them first in this situation. If it cant be resolved through discussion with the caregiver than you have to leave and move on. When she belittled your concern of the hitting when you initially mention it proves to me that it is of no concern to her nor will it be when you contact face to face. I have had my own problems with caregivers that didn't stop these behaviors right away and it can escalate right away. I wouldn't make a big deal with your 2 yr old just say we don't hit and redirect her to positive behaviors. My daughter went through this stage and when she would hit me I would say owww that hurts mommy likes when your hands show love and then have her hand pet me gently and then would take her to a different activity like a puzzle or blocks to take her mind of it. If you choose to confront the care giver I would sandwich the complaint by telling her what you like about her then explain your concern about the hitting asking her if she can think of any solutions on how to work on this problem and follow up thanking her and letting her know how much you apprechiate every thing she does and that you glad she can be so receptive to your concerns. That way she will feel obligatory to following through on this. I would still start looking for other options because if she takes your concern personally being that it is her daughter then I think it would be in your child's best interest to look elsewhere. <![CDATA[I just emailed this to a friend because I thought it was a good post and came back here, and saw that someone had flagged it. So I'm going to repost it for those of you who might be wondering about rates. This was writen by someone else. I want to make you all aware that NANNY positions, NOT day care, range anywhere from $100/week to $500+ a week. If you are wanting to hire a nanny the way to check if the price is right for you is to see what the nanny is willing to do. Is the nanny offering to help out with house work (more than children's laundry or dishes)? If yes than $500+ is a good price. If the nanny is well certified and has experience and wants to do a lot with your child(ren) (such as take them on field trips, or teaching them) than $350+/week is great! If your nanny is one who will just be there to watch your child(ren) and does not offer to help with house work or is basically just babysitting your child(ren) while you are away, then no more than $250/week. Nannies are a great choice because they can focus on just YOUR child(ren). Now, for in-home day cares certified or not. I personally would not pay more than $250 a week for my child to attend because they cannot do one-on-one with your child. They have other children around to watch. This is great for socialization skills, but you can get that with a nanny too by setting up play dates or finding programs around the neighborhood that your child(ren) could get involved with. I'm not sure what ad the posts about negative remarks or the posts about comments were focused on, but hopefully this will help all of you who are looking at rates and not sure what to charge. ]]>
