Hi, I'm a Cluster Coordinator for PAX (Program of Academic Exchange) looking for qualified host families to help build borders by welcoming a high school exchange student from another part of the world into your home for only 1 academic school year beginning in August of this year, 2010. You have the opportunity to learn, grow, and even travel through these amazingly bright individuals who are just as excited to learn from you as you are them. This will be an unforgettable experience for not only the host family, but the school in which they attend, and the community of Nashville itself.

The Department of State chooses the students through a very selective process and the program that I will be coordinating for is called the YES Program.

The YES Program: An Overview
Youth Exchange and Study, known as the YES program, brings teenagers from predominantly Muslim countries to live with host families and attend high school for a year. Fully funded by the federal government, YES is a positive response to the tragic events of September 11, a way all Americans can address our misunderstanding of the Muslim world and their mistrust of Americans.

The boys and girls chosen for the YES program have been identified as outstanding young "ambassadors" and as students who have leadership potential. The YES program then seeks to further develop these skills.

During their US homestay, YES students attend town meetings, visit local newspapers, see small businesses in action and participate in community service projects. They meet community leaders and see America at work. Students also make small presentations about their countries and introduce Americans to leaders, past and present, in their homelands.

Some of the home countries of students last year include: Brunei, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Turkey

My position and responsibility is to serve you as a PAX Cluster Leader for 3+ exchange students in Nashville, and assist with the cultural adjustment, arrival, activities, school enrollment, and many other networking opportunities for all parties involved.

So if you and your family are interested in the building of bridges with these students in the Nashville community, please respond to this posting and more information can be provided for you for this coming school year.

Thank you and look forward to communicating with anyone with serious interest of this opportunity.

Jessica Gaddis, PAX/YES Cluster Coordinator

Goa was the former Portuguese colony in India. It is one of India's most cherished and prominent places for travelers since many years for its remarkable palm-fringed beaches; a travelers paradise. Groups of international volunteers along with a local group of specialists have been part of an awareness program all throughout the state for several years. This year again a volunteer project will be conducted but with a different theme.
The volunteers will be visiting the schools and rural settlements of the region to present the importance of health and hygiene awareness and the need of education among the adults and the children. The volunteers need to be very creative in designing the exclusive orientation for the people of this region. Volunteers who participate in this project need to bring materials and ideas for the program, after which the whole group will settle on a plan of action decided by the team. The program will be mainly in schools/orphanages where the management will invite the parents and the surrounding villagers to visit and absorb the message given out through the presentations and plays.

For more details, please visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-india.htm or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US), 604-628-7400 (Canada)

This project is part of CADIP's International Volunteer Program: www.cadip.org

Do you love cats? Are you over 18 with an email account, available Monday mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.? Then do I have a great volunteer opportunity for you! Join the "cat team", a wonderful group of volunteers who care for New Leash on Life's cats and kittens that are up for adoption in the Luv a Pet Center located inside PetSmart, Providence Marketplace, Mt. Juliet. You will be trained as a volunteer for the Monday a.m. shift, arriving between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m., needing to be done with your tasks nd gone by the time the store opens at 9:00 a.m. Duties include: making sure all resident cats/kittens have fresh food and water, that their living spaces are clean, cleaning of litter boxes, cleaning and maintaining the appearance of the "cat room", emailing an update after your shift to all cat team members. PLEASE NOTE: Because we need to limit the chance of cross contamination/illness between cats in a stressful environment, please understand before responding that this is not play time with the cats! Yes, you will be able to give them love and spend time with them, but they are not allowed out to run around the room and play, nor can you hold multiple cats per shift. Currently we have a volunteer that covers the first Monday of every month, so you would be volunteering and committing to covering the remaining Monday mornings the rest of each month. If this sounds like something you would enjoy, and you are a morning person who loves cats, please contact me and tell me a little about yourself, providing your contact information when doing so. Training with a current volunteer during their shift is required before becoming a volunteer on our team. You will find this to be a wonderful volunteer position, reaping the reward of knowing you have helped our many cats and kittens find their forever homes. I hope to hear from you soon!
