I have been there as well.
After 5 months of looking for a chi, I finally found one that was being surrendered by its owner, right at the door. I asked the owner if I could take him BEFORE anything was signed over to the CACC staff. A woman who did NOT work for the CACC, (I didnt know that at the time) promptly told me that I could be bringing home a sick dog. I told her that I would be taking him to the vet, thinking that she worked at the shelter. She then told me that there are rescue groups that take in chi's....Why would you tell me that If I am interested in taking the dog and pay vet expenses myself? I asked her if she was waiting for a chi, and she told me that she does rescue work for chihauhaus and they were looking to 'rescue' a few. She then asked me if I would be willing to foster the chi that I HAD until she found it a proper home.... WHAT PAPERS WERE EVER SIGNED THAT THIS ANIMAL BELONGS TO YOU? Dont you have enough animals that need a home instead of taking MINE?
They bury themselves with their ways...
I have been trying to adopt a Shih Tzu and never realized that after 2 years I would still be searching. I have submitted tons of aplications to shelters, called, visited mobile adoption centers to only find cats available for adoption. I feel it is a big scheme with the shelters because they either never contact you regarding your application, or the dog is adopted or they advertise the dog and say that their prices vary depending on how "cute" the dog is. Up to today, a shelter emailed me to tell me that I can come to the fundraiser to meet the dog that I had submitted the application for. I have never owned a dog but I have a lot of love to give a dog and work form home and have a huge back yard and two disciplined kids but because I don't have a vet reference I guess I get overlooked. What else could it be? I may very well have to go to the pet store soon and my conscience will be clear because GOD knows I tried! My consollation would be that Dogs in the Pet store need love to!

My sweet, 9y/o, female, tortoise shell cat (healthy, frontal declawed, spayed, vaccinated) needs a new home.

This is a heartbreaking situation where my 4y/o daughter has developed Asthma and an allergy to cats and dogs. My gorgeous, loving, cuddly 'first born', 'Sludgie' needs to go to someone who loves cats and who will treat her lovingly and like the special, wonderful creature that she is.

Sludgie is a character who will meow back when spoken to. She is very sweet and great with people, loves being held and curling up into a ball in your lap, especially if you are wearing jeans (she has a funny fetish for blue jeans:). She is declawed and naturally a great mouser. She has moved around a lot with me throughout the years and is very adaptable.

Please feel free to email me any questions you may have. Anyone (who is not allergic) would be lucky to have her.
Thanks,
Tracey
My mother helps out while I am at school, but I have an early schedule . We walk the dog 3-4 times a day or whats needed. Our house has a nice sized backyard, walking distance to Astoria Park. Bergen County Animal Shelter, Teterboro, New Jersey
CLOSER TO NYC than you think... many wonderful animals just 20 minutes away from the Lincoln Tunnel.

http://animaladoptions.weebly.com/shelter-animals-bcas.html

Are you looking for a new "best friend" whose very company makes you feel happy? Many dogs at the shelter fit the bill . . . their soft eyes beg you to pet them, and all are ready to join you for a walk, a drive or a leisurely cuddle. I recently rescued a great cat that is super sweet. I've had my other cat for a little over a year. He's about two years old and has pretty much lived as the only cat (with the exception of a couple trips to my sister's when I went away). The rescued cat had been in my basement because he was having some health issues. They are all cleared up and I want to put him with my other cat, but my other cat wants no part of it (the new guy seems to really want to be his friend). I've done the slow introduction with the smells, brought the new cat up in the carrier for them to meet, but it doesn't seem to work. I really want to keep him, but if it doesn't work out, I'm going to have to find him a new home, as it isn't fair to my other cat that was here first. Does anyone have any advice from a similar situation? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Now I'm moving across the country and it's easier just to sell it here and get a new one over there. It's like new, except for a few nonessential missing brackets, and it's quite large for any rodent or rabbit, and comes with a water bottle. I paid $70 for it, not at Drs Foster & Smith, where you can see by the link it's much cheaper, so I'm only asking $10 just to get it out the door. Please email me at catwriter_me@yahoo.com if interested. Thanks!

Woof Rescue is looking for a home for Scooby. Scooby is about 9 months old, all black with a white patch on his chest. The shelter labeled him as a Lab mix, but his foster dad thinks he has some Doberman qualities. His personality is VERY mild. He's a bit on the shy side. He's young so he's active, but not hyper or crazy. He's neutered, good with other dogs, friendly and affectionate. He's a great medium/large size at 46 lbs. Scooby is being fostered in uptown manhattan by a professional dog trainer!! He will go to his new home with basic obedience under his belt. This boy is a gem!!!
Call 212-517-PAWS or reply to this posting for more info on Scooby!

MANY people are in the same situation. You wanted a dog like your last one or like your neighbors nice, calm dog or perhaps like the well trained dogs you see on TV. Instead, you got a little terror who is very cute but very difficult. Sometimes it's just one problem that they have (they wont stop biting) and sometimes it's lots of problems combined (biting, chewing, pulling, etc).

I do dog training for people at their "wits end". I do not want to see dogs go to a shelter when it's not necessary. When people adopt a dog from a shleter I want it to be a good experience.

For information on very inexpensive dog training email me.

I'm going to be away from NYC and need to find boarding for my two cats from mid-June to August/September. Given the length of time, I don't want them to spend their time in a cage and want them to have room to roam around (and a loving caretaker.) I don't mind driving a few hours to drop them off and would actually prefer to find a place in the greater metro area where they could have more room than in the city. Maybe you just want some company for the summer?

We can discuss the fee. I can provide food and litter and set up provisions for any vet care (which shouldn't be necessary.)

These two brothers are both 3 years old and in healthy condition.

Looking for a home for a very friendly, 2.5 year old Lab/Springer Spaniel Mix. His name is Elliott and he is a beautiful, black dog that loves to play. He plays extremely well with other dogs (he has frequented the dog park since puppyhood) and people.

I adopted Elliott from a shelter a little over 2 years ago. I was told at the time he would guard resources (his food, chew sticks, treats) and have worked with him on this problem since. He is much better, but still requires a home that is willing to work with him.

I am no longer able to provide Elliott with the amount of time he deserves and want to find him a new loving home. I do not want Elliott to return to a shelter, so I am hoping to find him a new home. I am not looking for an adoption fee, just a loving home.

Elliott is about 50 pounds, all black, neutered, and has a docked tail. Please contact me with any questions.
