<![CDATA[Dear Orlando Voters, I am writing to encourage you to run as a Libertarian for public office in Florida. Florida Libertarians have a fantastic opportunity to have a substantial Libertarian influence on their community by serving as elected officials on Special Districts. There are over 1,500 Special Districts in Florida; these act as advisory boards that address local issues like community development, soil and water conservation, transportation etc. (<a href="http://www.floridaspecialdistricts.org/" rel="nofollow">http://www.floridaspecialdistricts.org/</a>). Special Districts are easily accessible to Libertarians, as there are no ballot access restrictions. To be on the ballot in November for a Special District, Libertarians merely must pay a $25 fee and submit their filing papers by June 20th. Special Districts are often uncontested, and are definitely winnable for Libertarian candidates who promote a positive community reputation. Additionally, campaigning for and serving on a Special District requires only a small time commitment, one compatible with your other obligations. By serving on a Special District board, you can have a significant Libertarian influence on your community and reverse the increasing encroachment of local government. The difference Libertarians can make by serving on a Special District has been proven by the example of the Libertarians who acquired a majority on the Lee County Soil and Water Board (read the story at ----). These Libertarians eliminated the Special District’s excessively inefficient functions, and then returned its $100,000 budget-surplus to the voters. Furthermore, serving as a Libertarian candidate on a Special District sets the foundation for future Libertarian candidates running for higher offices. For example, the Libertarians serving on the Lee County Soil and Water Board proved to their constituents that Libertarians are not typical politicians, rather than expanding their power they returned it to the people. In this way, local Libertarian elected officials can show their community that the Libertarian Party is a principled political party, which they should support. Only with the help of individuals like you volunteering for candidacy can we give voters a Libertarian choice, so please, make this invaluable contribution and run for a Special District in your community! We would love to see many Libertarians on the ballot this November in partisan races, however we understand this may be too daunting for many. <![CDATA[Gas prices are ridiculous. Each day it gets higher and higher. The oil companies tell you gas will be $4.00 a gallon by the summer. Why don't people do anything? The "let's not buy gas today" approach is worthless. Why? If you don't have gas you don't work, and you can’t buy gas anyways. If I don't buy my gas on Saturday, all it means is that I will have to buy a little more on Sunday! The oil companies get you ready for the $4.00 a gallon gas, and so 6 months down the road when it’s at $4.00, no one is surprised. We become numb to the price. The only effective way to lower gas prices is to threaten nationalization of the oil industry. Now, I'm not saying to do it necessarily, but imagine how much money the oil companies would lose! By nationalizing the industry, the layer of fat (the gross profit) would be drastically reduced.]]>

Are we not supposed to earn a profit on the things we need? Are we supposed to allow companies to only earn a profit on the things we don't need? Who gets to decide this, and by what criteria? Oil companies such as Exxon/Mobil earn about 8 cents profit on a gallon of gas while government collects upwards to 46 cents per gallon in taxes. Who is the one being GREEDY here? There is no such thing as "Price Gouging". When demand out strips the supply the price go up. This is what is supposed to happen. Prior to hurricanes coming ashore in Florida people fill their gas tanks and stock up on food, batteries, generators and what not. Your friendly neighborhood politician institutes price controls artificially holding the prices down while the demand goes up. The net result is bare store shelves and no gas at filling stations. Thanks to the price being held down people hoard by buying more than they need thus depriving others. The fill their gas tank and the 10 five gallon cans they brought with them. Had the politicians just butted out and the prices allowed to double or triple based on the demand the hoarders would only have filled their gas tank and not the 10 five gallon cans. There is no way to sustain the elevated price levels after the storm has passed because competition will drive the price back down to the pre-storm level. All this would occur without any "help" from government. The current price we pay at the pump is due to an increase in worldwide demand for crude oil and no net increase in the supply. Thanks to the Anti-Capitalists (Environmentalists) and their allies in the DemocRAT Party we haven't built a new refinery in over 30 years. We cannot drill for oil in ANWR or off the coasts of Florida. Florida's Senators won't allow it thereby choosing to be part of the problem and not part of the solution. The price you pay is based on the replacement cost of a retailers inventory. This is why the pump price rises or falls depending on the crude oil price. Instead of increasing the crude oil supply we add insult to injury by using food crops to produce energy. Diverting corn into making ethanol is abject stupidity and has only increased the cost of feed to cattle farmers which has in turn raised the food prices around the globe. You can't eat crude oil, but you can use it for fuel and plastic. Economic education in this nation is sorely lacking. This is evidenced by economic ignorant fools railing against GREED. Nothing gets done because you want it done, or because it's the right thing to do. Things get done because there is a profit motive involved. If you can't make a profit, then why bother? I'm sure you wouldn't take a pay cut from "your job" just because the high prices are hurting your employer's bottom line. It's NOT your job anyway, the jobs are owned by the employers. Here is two parts of the problem as well as the aforementioned retardation. Supply and demand, there is more demand than there is supply and in a free market this causes prices to escalate. I don't expect any unsophisticated liberals to understand this. Second, we have become to dependant on foreign sources for our oil putting us at their mercy like a knife being held to our jugular. The solution is that we are an oil based economy and whether we like it or not will be for sometime to come. We need to become energy independent and drill in Anwr, The Gulf of Mexico, etc. while working on new sources or else we are committing economic suicide. We didn’t go after our own oil years ago because the environmentalists would not let us and now THEY and they alone are responsible for the shape we are in with high gas prices Alternative fuel sources will not be readily available for many years to come and most actually pollute far more than the oil driven economy we have at present. Don't give me the lame counter argument about alternative energy that dog won't hunt because it will take decades to develop an reliable energy source and convert over to it retrofiting our vehicles, machinery, etc. So in the meantime environmental nazi's will continue pushing us down this road to destruction. Great job, even if you are a Democrat voter. I will now attempt to educate you on the "Big Picture" via-a-vis the War on Terror, Energy and the Economy using facts and logic. This tactic is lost on the majority of Democrat voters pandered to by the likes of Obama and Clinton. The war in Iraq is just one front in the larger War on Terror. Afghanistan is the other front. To separate the two is tantamount to saying why are we killing the Germans when it was the Japanese who attacked us. It is NOT a "fabricated" war or any other such talking point nonsense spouted by the mindless anti-capitalist left. You would be doing yourself a favor by getting used to the fact that our military is going to be in Iraq and Afghanistan for years to come. We still have bases in Germany, Japan and South Korea, the Middle East is no different. Calling for a complete withdrawal of troops from the region is another '60s dope smoking pipe dream, it's not going to happen. Iraq is just another of our "forward bases" the only difference is this one is fully manned. The others in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are for material. It just makes sense to have most of the equipment already over in the theater where you'll need it. The people need to run the equipment can be moved there quickly. You achieve "peace" through strength, not by acquiescence. We have already enjoyed some dividends achieved through our being in the region and showing the "Ragheads" what we are capable of. Moammar Qadafi publicly gave up his pursuit of nuclear weapons shorty after witnessing how quickly we decimated Saddam Hussein's government. These dictators understand one thing. The use of force. Do you think this would have happened without us being there? I don't. Qadafi didn't want to be next on the list. He made the right choice. In the 7 years since being attacked on 11 September 2001 and our response US interests around the world and in our homeland hasn't been attacked. Contrast this with Bill Clinton's administration where every month an embassy was being car bombed. Bill Clinton was a "paper tiger" and it was just a matter of time before al Qaida was successful in attacking our homeland. They did try to bring down the World Trade Center on his watch and Bill Clinton's response was to try and convict them in court. Yeah, great idea Billy, that sure had them quaking in there boots now didn't it? His policy was one of reaction, not pro action. Attack us first, kill as many American lives as you can and we'll hunt you down and arrest you. No, I my opinion, hunting them down and dispatching them to "Paradise" has been a far better plan. Peace through strength, works every time it's tried. You need to get over your "wealth envy" it is blinding you and making you susceptible to Democrat talking points designed to get them elected and will do nothing to help your situation. Calling the President a "rodent" and making comments about his ranch is clear evidence of wealth envy. Envy is one of the 7 deadly sins and it will destroy no one but YOU. George W. Bush is not a king who decided one day to punish his subjects by sending their jobs overseas. The income tax code is largely responsible for that. The double taxation of income and capital as well as the Unions grip on labor is what sent the manufacturing jobs out of this country. The unions make you believe it's your job and hold labor hostage from a company by making ever increasing demands for wages and benefits until the company is forced to go out of the country to remain profitable. Hey Union, what you gonna do for me now? I live in America, not China! UPS went on strike a while back and FedEx stepped up to the plate and got into the package delivery business and now they are kicking UPS ass. UPS drivers are Union and they have concessions like no single package can weigh over 70 lbs. FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery are not union and are in fact "Independent Contractors". The man or woman driving those trucks more in likely own that truck. They have no silly 70 lb package rules. The packages shipped through FedEx can weigh up to 100 lbs. The result is the customer can ship their stuff in one box instead of two. More boxes can fit into a delivery vehicle and more can be delivered. Better service means more customers and that leads to more profit. FedEx also bought a freight company called American Freight and renamed it FedEx Freight. UPS followed suit by buying OverNite and renaming it UPS Freight, but I've seen owner operators with "Leased to UPS Freight" placards on their doors, so you can bet money they're NOT union drivers. The fact of the matter vis-a-vis presidential control of government only goes so far. True, we had the White House and both houses of congress under Republican control from 2000 to 2006. This was not complete control because of Democrat minority holding up the works in the Senate. It didn't matter what bill passed through the House during this period because it died in the Senate. Ditto for judicial confirmations. Now, thanks to the Dumb Mass voters, the control of congress is in the Democrats hands and true to form nothing is getting done. Except of course the blame game and endless investigations. Democrats can't legislate, so they investigate. Meanwhile big business knowing from past history Democrats are fond of taxation and regulation is keeping their capital investments on hold waiting to see what happens. The net result is the slowing US economy. You can't go back to the 1990s any more than can you go back to the 1950s. The facts have changed and the worldwide dynamics are different. In the 1990s the Chinese people were riding bicycles and motor scooters, today they are driving cars. The worldwide demand for crude oil is what drives up the price, not what the oil companies want to pay for it. Fact is they make more money per quarter when the price is low because you'll use more than when it's high. Governments collect more tax revenue when the price is lower for the same reason. The reason the price is higher is because the price you pay is what it costs for the retailer to replace the inventory. Every time crude oil goes up so does the price of the end product. To charge less would mean the inability to replace the same amount of inventory in the future. This is why "price controls" and "anti-gouging laws" always lead to shortages. Lastly, you will never see anyone who has run a multi-billion dollar company run for President. They wouldn't want to take the pay cut. I think Steve Forbes was the last one and he didn't get very far. Why in God's name would you give up your anonymity and a multi million dollar paycheck with stock options for a job that pays $400,000 per year and one where every crack pot wants to put a bullet through your skull. I have always voted for the person and have not voted for anyone because some political party was telling me who I should vote for. We all know the choices by now and, that said, I do believe that the process of selecting a chief executive is deeply flawed. The words 'money' and 'special interests' come to mind, among many others. Here's the way I see it: Barack Obama, you are a fine public speaker. You are also an extremely liberal Senator from the State of Illinois, which has a long and rich history of political corruption of the first magnitude. You are indeed a child of that system. You have finally insulted my intelligence far beyond my capacity to tolerate your insults. It has nothing at all to do with your skin color. As a matter of fact, it would be so COOL to finally have an African-American for President. What a great statement that would be to the entire world that we are indeed the greatest country on earth! But, unfortunately, General Colin Powell is not running, and YOU are NOT the man for this job! Barack, you want me to believe that you have never heard the sermons of your own pastor, the Right Reverend 'God Damn America' Jeremiah Wright. It is a matter of record that this has been your church for over 20 years. It is a matter of record that you were married there by this very pastor, and that your children were baptized there. The good Reverend saw fit to visit Khadafy in Libya with you and to give a lifetime achievement award to Louis Farrakhan, of all people. So who has an immediate advantage? they can frgo working endless jobs to scrap buy and get right inot the investing itself, because guess what it takes money to make money, and not everyone has that advantage outright. Which is why even though your steps sound like good solid ideas they are not feasible to a good percentage of the population, and if those in power make things even more difficult even less individuals will ever get a chance. 2. Oh no I know you don't support universal healthcare or education or any other government programs, the fact that you want to slash the millitary budget puts you in a minority though, it is surprising to have you agree on that. That being said the problem I am not fully against business as you may think, like I said I'm for competition, and I'm for being able to run a business, but at the same time I think the most prudent way to go about this is to understand as a business owner that you would be nothing if not for the people slaving away to make them wealthy, so it is only fair to treat the employees with respect and make sure they are happy because in the long run it will make them happier. 3.They did use force in busting strikes, there are examples of this, the problem is the worker was responding the only way they could ,true they probably used radical actions, because their political sway was weak compared to that of the Robber Barons, at times a strike was a way to gain attention to a particular cuase when no one would speak to downtrodden because the wealthy had bought the government. Speaking of visionaries, let me pose this question, if we allow monopoolies, we will kill visions and visionaries, ebcause the true geniuses will simply get swallowed up by individuals who have more money than they do, and it happens every day in Bsuiness innovative companies forced to merge or get bought out by the big cats, simply ebcause they had the vision but not the capital to compete. 4. The whole problem with economics, is Monopoly based economics is an artificial creaion into the market, as artificial as you claim Anti Trust laws may be. You claim anti trust compels competition by giving business a chance to fight rather be swallowed by the capital machine. However Monopolies promote a similiar mechanism, it is a creation of the market because you are allowing one supplier to corner and control the entrire market, through the use of brute capital. This is not a antural market, because firstly competition (a natural market force is squelched) Either way you cut it there is a manipulation of the market, one creates competition and creates choice, while the other option destroys competiton and choice. So fighting against monopoly is a ay of trying to ensure competition in a market where Big business strives to choke the market.]]>

It’s the way it works.” That’s the latest bon mot from a woman who has expressed pride in her country for the first time in her adult life. In Mrs. Obama’s view, her husband is unjustly condemned to perpetual underdog status – despite his clear lead in fundraising, in pledged and unpledged delegates, in the popular vote, and in high-profile endorsements. Perhaps it’s unrealistic to expect anything more uplifting from Michelle Obama, who characterizes America as “just downright mean” and “a nation of struggling folks,” notwithstanding her (and her husband’s) elite educations, prestigious jobs, comfortable income and meteoric rise to political superstardom. Hillary Clinton’s vision of America is no more inspiring. Last week, she repeated again the heartrending story of Trina Bachtell – a young woman who lost her baby and died herself simply because she couldn’t afford the $100 fee a heartless hospital supposedly demanded in order to treat her. Not too surprisingly, it turns out that the story wasn’t true – but the very fact that Hillary deemed it plausible enough to repeat is revealing. Her view of America and its circumstances is remarkably dreary, considering that she and her husband have risen from the middle class to enjoy stratospheric influence and prominence, along with an income that puts them in the ranks of the super-rich – $109 million just over the last eight years. It must be demoralizing to live in the world these two Ivy-League-educated lawyers seem to occupy, where innocent citizens are eternally victimized by forces beyond their control – from the evil healthcare system to the presumably racist political and social structure. It will be an interesting insight into the nation’s psyche to learn how many voters ultimately subscribe to their pessimism about this country, its people and its potential. But despite their similarities in tone, Mrs. Clinton’s and Mrs. Obama’s remarks seem to spring from different sources. Hillary Clinton’s false assertions about Trina Bachtell signal a hardened cynicism, where no “misstatement” is too shameless to employ in the almighty effort to win political power. Michelle Obama’s comments reflect a latent radicalism, a pervasive and seemingly immutable conviction about the inherent unfairness of the American people. Taken together, the most recent Democrat First Lady and the woman most likely to be the next one present unappealing alternatives. Would voters prefer for America to be represented by a radical, who sincerely and deeply doubts the goodness of its people – or by a cynic, who’s willing to say anything as part of a scorched-earth strategy to lead it? <![CDATA[1. If your income stream is totally dependent upon someone else having a job for you, you shouldn't be having babies. Responsible parents supplement their income by investing in the stock market and put money into interest bearing savings accounts for their kids. They also acquire assets like houses or special skills which they can contract to perform (as opposed to performing an "at will" job) that guarantees income. They also provide the kid with a minimum education (you'd be surprised how easy this is) and if the kid is actually smart, someone will notice and give him an education. He will be an asset to the rich. 2. It's funny how you take it for granted that I support universal healthcare, public education, public intrastructure, etc. I'm in favor of cutting the military budget also, but not so the government can spend it elsewhere. They should cut all of those things and give the money back to the people (and the corporations made up of people) who earned it. Yes, big business was traditionally protected against theft by Washington. Theft by others. This stems from individual rights. Businesses derive their rights from the individual rights to the individuals who constitute the business. But you can't honestly claim that businesses in America today are allowed as much freedom and allowed to keep as much of their money as they were in the 19th Century. 3. "Strike Busting" back in the day did not mean going into union halls and breaking up meetings. It meant kicking a bunch of squatting bastards off of company property. It meant protecting the business owner's right to hire whoever they wanted and not having the strikers block them from entering work. Yes, that is the use of force, but it isn't the initiation of force. It's self-defense. I know you want desperately to treat the refusal to deal with a union - to grant it it's demands - as the use of force, but it isn't. I know you want desperately to treat the harsh working conditions, which workers consented to work under, as the use of force ("because they didn't have anywhere else to go"), but it isn't. They did have other places to go. They didn't have to come to America. Or, there was plenty of land being given away out West. Also, if you think that muscle, performing already discovered routines, is the source of wealth, you've got another thing coming. It is the visionaries and the men of iron will who built this country's industries. They did so using their minds and they deserved every penny of their fortunes. 4. Here, again, you're desperately trying to equate economic leverage with political power (the power to compel). If 1 company owns everything, they are not "compelling" me to starve if I choose not to buy from them. I would starve anyways. They created wealth which hadn't previously existed. This is distinctly different from being forced to do "business" with the government. YOu cannot choose to ignore the government and starve. They will come and arrest you and force feed you. You cannot choose to grow your own food, they will still take a cut as "taxes." A company, even a mammoth monopoly, has no power to do this. You may not like these market conditions - very few would - but you have no right to use government (antitrust laws) to change them. The fact that no monopoly would ever be able to remain a monopoly is not because of laws, but because of the laws of supply and demand. The moment they begin to abuse their leverage, by jacking up prices or by letting quality suffer, a competitor would fill the void. They would have no power to stop him.]]>
