<![CDATA[Reem al-Zaeem Wake up, Westerners! There's another side to the story you are not hearing. As we hear about suffering in certain parts of the world, in the media we must observe the wording and the content. There will always be political motives and biases within the media, sure, but are we astute enough to see which way they want us to sway, to see one side as the "bad guy" and the other as the "good guy", or do we blindly swallow what we read/hear as "fact"? The Palestinian humanitarian crisis is a prime example of suffering the West doesn''t hear. I cannot do the situation justice, because it has a deep complex history which only gets more complicated by the day. What I want to stress is this: Are we hearing the Palestinian perspective at all in the West? Or are we just automatically labeling all Palestinians as terrorists because the media portrays them as so? Did you know about the constant demolition of Palestinian homes by Israeli military tanks or how many innocent people - men, women, children, elderly are massacred nonstop in the name of Israeli national security raids? Just on Tuesday November 7th the Israeli military killed eight Palestinians after pulling out of a battered town where it had mounted its bloodiest operation in the Gaza Strip in a year. In all, Israeli troops killed 52 people, a lot of them innocent civilians, during the raids that centered on Beit Hanoun, Palestinian medical officials said. Beit Hanoun's mayor said some 40 homes were destroyed and 400 damaged during the assault. This was a continuation from this past weekend's raid in which Palestinian women protesting in front of a mosque were murdered. Israeli forces killed three Palestinians in Gaza on Saturday, November 04, 2006, including two fighters in air strikes and clashes, rescue workers said. The violence came a day after Israel killed 17 people, about half of them civilians and including two women acting as human shields between troops and pedestrians hiding in a mosque in Beit Hanoun. So little information, yet powerful media images can be stuck in a reader's mind, yes? The silencing of the suffering the Palestinian people endure is quite appalling. Who decides which human life is more valuable than another? The media sways people to see one life as more valuable and people just don't realize- wait a second, we're all human beings. We must all feel each others pain somehow. At least give the people the justice of airing their side of the story; we should want to hear both sides. We should ask professors to assign more works by Palestinian writers/activists. We should be more open-minded, to find more news resources, and analyze what we do read. But in general, we need to realize there's always both sides to every story. Let us do justice as people in academia to hear each out, especially when one is being continuously silenced.]]>

He was 94. Mondavi died peacefully at his home in Yountville, Robert Mondavi Winery spokeswoman Mia Malm said. ADVERTISEMENT He was 52 and a winemaking veteran in 1966, when he opened the winery that would help turn the Napa Valley into a world center of the industry. Clashes with a brother that included a fistfight led him to break from the family business to carry out his ambitious plans with borrowed money. "He had the single greatest influence in this country with respect to high quality wine and its place at the table," wine critic Robert Parker wrote in a chat room posting on his Web site Friday. He called Mondavi "an exceptional man....a true pioneer...a legendary pathfinder.....and I feel so priviledged to have known him...a sad day...but also one to pay homage to his enormous contributions." When Mondavi opened his winery, California was still primarily known for cheap jug wines. But he set out to change that, championing use of cold fermentation, stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, all commonplace in the industry today. He introduced blind tastings in Napa Valley, putting his wines up against French vintages, a bold move. His confidence was rewarded in 1976 when California wines beat some well-known French vintages in the famous tasting known as the Judgment of Paris. Always convinced that California wines could compete with the European greats, Mondavi engaged in the first French-American wine venture when he formed a limited partnership with the legendary French vintner Baron Philippe de Rothschild to grow and make the ultra-premium Opus One at Oakville. The venture's first vintage was in 1979. The success of the Mondavi winery allowed him to donate tens of millions of dollars to charity, but a wine glut and intense competition gradually cost his family control of the business. In 2004, the company accepted a buyout worth $1.3 billion from Fairport, N.Y.-based Constellation Brands. Mondavi was an enthusiastic ambassador for wine — especially California wine — and traveled the world into his 90s promoting the health, cultural and social benefits of its moderate consumption. "He had an amazing life," said Robert C. Koch, president and CEO of the San Francisco-based Wine Institute. "He was a major driving force and an incredible promoter for California wine and the Napa Valley." Born in Virginia, Minn., Mondavi got an economics degree from Stanford University in the 1930s and went to work at the Charles Krug Winery, which his Italian-born parents had bought after moving to California from Minnesota. He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Declusin, in 1937, and they had three children, Michael, Marcia and Tim. For 20 years, the winery was a family business. But Robert clashed frequently with his younger brother, Peter, who had a more conservative approach the business. According to Robert Mondavi's autobiography "Harvests of Joy," matters came to a head with a November 1965 fistfight. "When it was all over, there were no apologies and no handshake," wrote Robert Mondavi. In the late 1970s, Mondavi's first marriage ended; in his autobiography he wrote that his single-minded pursuit of the wine business was partly to blame. In 1980, he married a second time, to Margrit Biever, a native of Switzerland who had worked at the Mondavi winery since the late '60s. By the mid-1990s, Mondavi had turned over operation of the company to his sons. But like their father and uncle before them, Tim and Michael clashed over management styles. More troubles emerged as a grape glut soured the wine market in 2002 and lower-priced wines in the Mondavi portfolio faced tough competition from cheaper Australian imports and domestic brands like California's Two Buck Chuck. Also a problem were the millions in charitable donations Mondavi and Margrit had pledged, including helping found Copia, The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts, in Napa and giving $35 million to the University of California, Davis. In her 2007 book, "The House of Mondavi: The Rise and Fall of an American Wine Dynasty," author Julia Flynn Siler wrote that declining stock prices later left Mondavi in danger of not being able to cover the millions in gifts he and Margrit had promised. A corporate restructuring in August 2004 boosted the stock price, but undercut the family's control of the company. By time it was bought out, Michael Mondavi, who disagreed with the board strategy, had already left the company, and Tim Mondavi had loosened ties. Later there was a bittersweet family moment when Robert and Peter Mondavi, aided by members of the younger generation, made wine together for the first time in 40 years. Using a 50-50 split of grapes from Robert Mondavi and Peter Mondavi family vineyards, the brothers made one barrel of a cabernet blend that sold for $401,000 at the 2005 Napa Valley wine auction. <![CDATA[For three tours, or years for you who don't know. The B-50 was never used to spray ANYTHING. They used small twin engine planes and choppers. All were low altitude drops. I remember them very well, and I also remember seeing the 50's refueling but only along the coastal regions....never inland. Poncho is totally full of shit. Boeing history of the 50 shows only about 4-5 were used in Nam anyway, and only as high altitude refueling tankers. All defoliant drops were made at low altitude, and the 50s were unsuitable for that role anyway, and not set up for spray. All the 50s had been modified with larger engines and JATO as well, because the jets they were refueling were too fast, and couldn't slow down enough to fall behind the 50. When refueling, the JATO tubes would come into play. JATO= jet assisted take off. It really didn't work out very well from day one. I remember hearing about when the one came apart in mid air, but fortunately didn't see it. Whenever a plane would go down, it would literally make me sick to my stomach, worrying about the pilots, etc. POncho never flew a 50. It iis another manifestation of his make believe world. I guess he figured he could make up some stories and post them, and people would just believe them. They might have, if he hadn't made such a fool of himself on everything he posts. As he alienated people, it became normal to just check out his statements, and was soon obvious that almost everything he said were lies. Still, we tried to get along, and deal with it. Now though, his namecalling, innuendos, lies, and constant badgering and claims of granduer have just about worn us all out, even in other CL forums. Our nation’s most Serious foreign policy expert, the brilliant Thomas Friedman of The New York Times, has today declared our latest new war: The next American president will inherit many foreign policy challenges, but surely one of the biggest will be the cold war. Yes, the next president is going to be a cold-war president — but this cold war is with Iran. So congratulations to us. After years of desperately searching, we’ve finally found our New Soviet Union. Nay-saying opponents of the New War (those who Tom Friedman, in March of 2003, dismissed as “knee-jerk liberals and pacifists”) may try to point out that it’s a country whose defense spending is less than 1% of our own, has never invaded another country, and could not possibly threaten us, but those are just small details. Iran is our new implacable foe in Tom Friedman’s glorious, transcendent struggle — which, in 2003, on NPR, he called “the beginning of World War III . . . the third great totalitarian challenge in the last, you know, 60 years,” and which he today defines this way (featuring an amazingly disingenuous use of parenthesis): That is the real umbrella story in the Middle East today — the struggle for influence across the region, with America and its Sunni Arab allies (and Israel) versus Iran, Syria and their non-state allies, Hamas and Hezbollah. As the May 11 editorial in the Iranian daily Kayhan put it, “In the power struggle in the Middle East, there are only two sides: Iran and the U.S.” Friedman laments that “Team America” — that’s really what he calls it — “is losing on just about every front.” What’s most striking about Friedman’s formulation is that — in the 2003 NPR interview — this is what Friedman said about why 9/11 happened: I did a documentary last year for the Discovery Channel on the roots of 9/11, and we went with a team all over the Arab-Muslim world for over a period of about six months and interviewed people on what 9/11 was all about. And our conclusion was 9/11 was really fed by three rivers of rage. One was about what we do — what we, the United States, do, whether it’s how we use resources, it’s our support for a dictatorial Arab regime so they’ll sell us cheap oil. It’s our backing for Israel when it does the right thing and when it does the wrong thing. 9/11 is fed, in part, by what we do, OK. . . . The second and hugely important river of rage feeding 9/11 was a real overpowering sense of humiliation. . . . The Arab Human Development Report told us last year that 22 Arab states, not a single one has a freely and fairly elected government. . . . And the third river of rage is how much these people hate their own governments, governments that keep them voiceless and powerless and prevent them from achieving their full aspirations in a world where they know how everyone else is living. So 9/11 was caused by our backing of dictatorial Arab regimes, our unconditional support for Israel, our general interference in the Middle East, and the fact that Muslims aren’t free. So what does Friedman want to do now? Have the U.S. wage a “cold war” (at least) for dominance in the Middle East alongside our best friends: the dictators and monarchs of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the Gulf States (plus, incidentally, Israel). In other words, Friedman now wants to do everything that he himself said is what caused 9/11 in the first place. There’s a reason that Friedman occupies the place he does in America’s foreign policy establishment. He’s perfectly representative of it. It’s an establishment in perpetual search of an Enemy and the next war. And finding it (or creating it) is the one thing they do well. Friedman spent months before the invasion of Iraq continuously supporting and cheering it on based on righteous appeals to the transformational values of freedom and democracy. But once the invasion was complete, he unmasked himself, acknowledging in that NPR interview that the real purpose of the invasion was that the U.S. had to send a message to Muslims generally and “sometimes it takes a 2-by-4 across the side of the head to get that message.” That admission was accompanied by Friedman’s 2003 “epiphany” on The Charlie Rose Show that the invasion of Iraq was “unquestionably worth doing” because “looking back, I now feel I understand more what the war was about.” Only once the deed was done did he magically realize that the real purpose of his war was not, after all, that “a more accountable, progressive and democratizing regime” in Iraq would “have a positive, transforming effect on the entire Arab world” — as he continuously claimed while convincing Americans to support it. No, instead, it turns out that the real purpose of invading Iraq, what made it “unquestionably worth doing,” was that we needed to invade some Muslim country — Iraq was just one of many that would have sufficed — in order, using his words, to “take out a very big stick” and say: “Suck. On. This.” That comes from one of the most revealing (and most repellent) three minutes of commentary one can find, illustrating the real face of the Friedman-led American foreign policy class (h/t Atrios): And now Friedman has shifted his phallic, warmongering eyes from Iraq to Iran. While he denies in passing that he wants to wage actual war on Iran, he says we must find incentives “that the other side finds too tempting or frightening to ignore.” In November, he argued that if Barack Obama becomes President, it was urgent that Dick Cheney be his Vice President because “when negotiating with murderous regimes like Iran’s or Syria’s, you want Tony Soprano by your side, not Big Bird,” and thus, Obama needs “a Dick Cheney standing over his right shoulder, quietly pounding a baseball bat into his palm.”That’s what passes for Serious Foreign Policy commentary in America — the Most Serious commentary, actually. World War III has started! We need to be like Tony Soprano, threatening everyone with our big baseball bats. Those Muslims — we can just pick the targets indiscriminately — need 2-by-4s across their heads to get the message. Last Sunday, two of its male characters, Kevin and Scotty, exchanged vows in homosexual "marriage." ABC says, "This is no typical TV wedding. It's a gay commitment ceremony -- the first same-sex union on American network TV between series regulars." ABC portrays this as a time of joy and lifetime commitment. But "the liberal-leaning show does attempt to recognize those who oppose gay marriage" How? Does it let them express sincere disapproval? No. It portrays Scotty's parents as prudes who boycott the ceremony! Yet children, more open-minded, are present to witness the same-sex "union." Future episodes are planned as Kevin and Scotty may explore adoption of children. "Executive producer Monica Breen assures, 'They will be a family. Kevin deserves a stable relationship in the same way that Kittie, Sarah, and all the others deserve it. He will be facing many questions in his life but now he has someone to share that with.'" In-Our-Faces Homosexuality Why is ABC, owned by Disney, pushing blatant homosexuality in the faces of 11 million viewers in "Christian" America? Of course, the gutter morals of the Talmudic rabbis can't be practiced by Jews in the modern, traditionally Christian west. This period, longer than the Jewish occupation of Palestine, began with exile under Nebuchadnezzar in 597 BC and ended with expulsion of the Jews in the 11th century AD. Only about 10 percent of Jews returned from Babylon to Palestine. In Babylon, as the Jewish encyclopedias document in many articles, Jews absorbed witchcraft, astrology, sorcery, necromancy, numerology, and demonism.(2) They incorporated such into the Talmud and Zohar (Kabbalah). They also absorbed immoral practices of Babylon such as pedophilia. The moral degeneracy of Babylon is legendary. Unbeknownst to him, there are other detectives who stick to him like glue and follow him to his perdition. Professionally it is called a "double tail". Apparently, some of us were duped by such a ruse in the peculiar affair of a Zionist plot to infiltrate Wikipedia. This powerful online encyclopaedia is ostensibly free and open: everyone can be an editor, add or edit any entry. Editors remain anonymous; their true identity is hidden behind a nickname. This rule has a serious drawback: using this anonymity, a dedicated group may infiltrate the system by stealth, distort reality and create a false picture of the world in the eyes of billions. Apparently this script has been recently enacted. Conspiracy? Yes. Jewish conspiracy? You bet! The damning email exchange was intercepted and published, revealing a radical Zionist plot to bend "Wiki." A moderate leftist (some would call it 'tame') US-based pro-Palestinian site EI revealed that the radical-extremist Zionist organisation CAMERA called for "volunteers who can work as 'editors' to ensure" that Israel-related articles on Wikipedia agree with their right-wing-Zionist agenda. This effort was to be kept secret from the media and the public. Stealth and misrepresentation were presented as the keys to success. A CAMERA official advised the volunteers to sign up as editors for Wikipedia and afterwards to avoid editing Israel-related material for a while, in order to "avoid the appearance of being one-topic editors". The orchestrated effort was to appear as if it were the work of unaffiliated individuals, and for this reason the editors were to avoid picking a user name that marked them as pro-Israel, or that let people know their real name. The emails taught Zionist apprentices how to act in the interests of Israel while using neutral language. The emphasis was on the long run side of the operation: "This is a marathon not a sprint", a Zionist instructor nicknamed 'Zeq' taught his apprentices in the email exchange. The EI article about this revelation was quite sycophantic towards Wikipedia. It presented Wiki as an objective source at loggerheads with Zionist infiltrators, and even bordered on advertising: "Openness and good faith are among Wikipedia's core principles. Any person in the world can write or edit articles, but Wikipedia has strict guidelines and procedures for accountability intended to ensure quality control and prevent vandalism, plagiarism or distortion. It is because of these safeguards that articles on key elements of the Palestine-Israel conflict have generally remained well-referenced, useful and objective." Still, it was not enough, and on the next day, 22 April 2008, EI updated this article with a triumphal and calming statement: "a plan by the pro-Israel pressure group CAMERA to skew Wikipedia in a pro-Israel direction appears to have collapsed after it was exposed by EI". Zeq was dismissed, and anyway, fewer than a dozen of Camera moles were active at the time EI exposed the scheme. In short: everything is fine, Wiki is functioning well, and the Zionist scare is gone, thanks to fearless EI. And anyway, it was only a small operation by the enemies of freedom, and it is over. Excuse me, is this an article, or a paid advertisement for Wikipedia? Did EI receive on evening April 21st an offer they could not refuse from the owner of Wiki? Only a Zionist can think that Wiki "articles on key elements of the Palestine-Israel conflict have generally remained well-referenced, useful and objective." On the contrary, they are biased in the extreme; just read, for instance, an exceedingly hostile entry on Hamas, including its Talk, i.e. discussions of editors, deletions and corrections. It defines Hamas as " best known for multiple suicide bombings and other attacks directed against civilians [known to whom? To me it is best known as the ruling party of Palestine, and secondly, as grassroots mutual assistance movement ISH] Hamas' charter calls for the destruction of the State of Israel [while all prominent Israeli parties joined in destruction of Palestine ISH] the organization is described by many as antisemitic." Though he previously denied having any relationship to ADL, he admitted to Israeli Foreign Affairs that he "had had quite a cordial professional relationship with the ADL" and "had been doing research in cooperation with ADL". The New York City Jewish newspaper "Forward" reported that Berlet transferred information from FBI anti-Communist informer directly to ADL. Ace Hayes wrote: "John Foster "Chip" Berlet has been involved, over the past half decade, in attacking virtually every independent critic of the Imperial State that the reader can name." His operation is financed by Ford Foundation. Michael Collins Piper in his monumental book on the Kennedy assassination, Final Judgment, asserts that Chip Berlet is a CIA agent. Naturally, his own entry in Wiki is protected from editing. The Arbitration committee (those who hold the reigns of power on the Wiki) "admit to hero-worship of Cberlet', as I was informed by a prominent insider. These men are discreet, they won't babble about their devotion to the Jewish cause; they hide it under the veil of bureaucratic expressions and abbreviations. Their supporting cast includes some Jewish "antizionists" like RolandR. This is actually a British Trotskyite trade union apparatchik Roland Rance, who does not mind to cooperate with convinced anti-Communist, CIA and ADL agent Berlet and with zealous Zionist Jayjg. For them, it did not matter that together with me, they discredited and marginalised the idea of One State -- the only possible peaceful solution to our conflict. The final battle was fought on the Wikipedia site, where Ali-Ibish-Parry provided ammunition to Zionist Agent Smith Jayjg and ADL's own Barlet, with the ADL-sponsored block of "antifascist" e-zines: British Searchlight, Norwegian Monitor, Swedish Expo, American Trotskyite Socialist Viewpoint et al. A few days ago, I spoke to a group of Indian intellectuals in Delhi, and afterwards I received this touching letter from Come Carpentier, a French expat writer living in the Indian capital. He wrote: "I meant to thank you for these enlightening, balanced and always objective yet passionate words you spoke that evening...Listening to them dispels even better than reading you the reputation that you have been given by you-know-who as a firebrand defamer of Israel, holocaust denier, Nazi apologist and so on and so forth... Not to mention the rumours about your being a clandestine Swedish Far Right-winger infiltrated in the Holy Land by the international Islamo-Fascist Cabal!" III In a way, pro-Jewish bias of Wiki is unavoidable bearing in mind Jewish positions in Western discourse, media and universities. Jews even people of Jewish origin are likely to correct discourse in a flattering for them way. They did it hundred years ago, and five hundred years ago. Provided they do it in one direction, they constitute the only entity (besides the undermined Church and its Orders) capable of a marathon (in words of Zeq) - of sustaining a long-run operation. A hundred years ago, a New York lawyer Samuel Untermeyer financed the first Scofield Reference Bible; since then, the Scofield Bibles are being republished in newer even more pro-Jewish editions and they bring in millions of Christian Zionists. Joachim Martillo writes in his Judonia: "Jewish efforts benefit from organizational memory that does not exist in other lobbying situations. The longevity of Jewish Federation organizations can give Israel Lobbying efforts a generational aspect not seen elsewhere. For example, Israel Advocacy organizations worked for fifty years to delegitimize Arabists in the Foreign Service and State Department, and replace them with Israel-sympathetic personnel". Martllo erroneously connects this result with some specific pro-Israel organisation. Success of Zionism (and incidentally its crimes) is just the strawberry on top of the Jewish success cake. The Jews are engaged in advocacy of Jews, and consequently they delegitimize Arabists, or priests, or independent historians who do not subscribe to the notion that Jews are special in consistently beneficial way. Zionism is a result of Jewish pruning of history, and this pruned history is what we were taught. There are no Arab sheiks or Russian oligarchs or American oilmen ready to finance anything long term of no immediate relevancy. They do not understand that practically every entry of encyclopaedia, every textbook influence future generations. A correct entry on, say, Poincare or monotheism or Persian invasion could save potential Zionists from their delusions of grandeur. Wikipedia is a great idea for Jews: people of all nations from all over the world contribute of their knowledge, and then this Summa is pruned in the way acceptable to the pro-Jewish gardeners. Despite its "free" image, Wikipedia is part and parcel of the immense Judaised media holding, and thus is as biased as any other publication of the group from the New York Times (owned by Sulzberger) to Liberation (owned by Rothschild) to hundreds of Murdock papers. Conclusion Wikipedia is an important asset, like the New York Times, but both are in the hands of enemies of freedom. Sometimes good and truthful articles or entries are to be found in both, but these are specks of gold dust placed there to salt the dud mine. We certainly want to democratise both; to make both really democratic and accessible. Until this is done, we should explain that both are tools of mind control not to be trusted or taken at face value. If Wiki wants to preserve some of its reliability, it must get rid of its Zionist enforcers. Not only of the CAMERA bumpkins, but of the hard men in black suits, the Agents Smith. In an article by Osamah Khalil of Berkeley EI deservedly took Ibish to task for his "defense of Abbas' strategy of deference and obsequiousness to the US and Israel. According to Ibish's issue paper, Abbas' problem is not that he is a failed, corrupt and ineffectual leader who appears to Palestinians as an eager American tool, but that he is "uninspiring" and "lacks the charisma that many politicians rely upon, and is not an emotive speaker."
