<![CDATA[The San Antonio area has a growing community of artisans who work in a variety of media and produce decorative and practical objects, including jewelry, pottery, basketry, woodwork, glass, and metalwork, among others. A common desire of these artisans is to take their work to the next professional level and to support their creative endeavors financially. They share a common need to have a venue in which they can sell their work without the need to pay high gallery commissions, as well as a low-cost place to teach classes and hold workshops and meetings for their artisan groups. In response to this need, an Artisans’ Co-operative (Co-op) is being formed, with the express purpose of providing such a studio/classroom/retail space for its members. Memberships in the Co-op are anticipated to run in the range of $50-100/mo., and it will operate much like a time-share. Memberships can be held by individuals and/or groups. For this fee, members will have access to a finished rental space complete with utilities, including work tables, chairs, lighting, restrooms and work sink, refrigerator, and a storage area. The plan is to lease a location in a high-traffic, accessible facility with good parking, and nearby food/drink, such as the Blue Star Arts Complex or similar location. Members will be able to schedule times online to use the facility themselves for studio work, for holding trunk sales and/or teaching classes. In addition, and they will also be able to participate in joint art shows presented by the Co-op. Groups who are members of the Co-op can utilize the facility to hold meetings for their groups and as a site for holding workshops and classes. This will make it more feasible to bring in instructors from outside of the San Antonio area by reducing the cost. Members timeshares in the co-op can be resold/leased out to other artisans/groups, within approved guidelines. Other benefits of Co-op membership will include joint online marketing and increased visibility and publicity for the artisans and groups as members of the Co-op, as well as business start-up mentoring for those new to the business side of the art world. <![CDATA[Uhhh...No shit?!?!?!?!? Lesson learned. DO NOT go to any of these clowns on craigslist for a tattoo. Seriously. Why do you think they post on craigslist??? They don't have business or it's very slow going for them. Why is this happening to them? Because they ARE NOT real artists. I mean, really, tattooing is a great way to practice your art or even to make a living out of it. But if you aren't amazing, or damn-near it, you SHOULD STOP TATTOOING. No offense to the couple of shops WHO DO post on here and at least put up good pictures of their work....those shops are Karma and Wicked Ink (I believe? Sorry, not clicking back to check, again). They have bright, clear photos, very colorful work, lines are straight, etc... The funny thing is these people who do VERY BAD to PLAIN AWFUL tattoos, know who they are. All of them are jokes. If you aren't incredible at what you do, it's NOT FOR YOU. Get over it. just because people get shitty little westside-style tattoos of skulls, skulls, more skulls, "san anto", or a spurs logo (prison tattoo), from you, does not mean you are good. Just because you've been tattooing for 10 years or more (and still can't make a straight line), does not mean you are good. Because you do tribal...that just screams "run the fuck away as fast as you can from this artist"....just because you're giving out "free" tattoos to add to your already existing shitty-portfolio of jokes you call tattoos, does not make you good. A real artist would instantly pick up tattooing more than likely within months of being taught by another good artist. If you're on year three and still not HUGE in san antonio, get the fuck out of the business already. You're ruining opportunity for real artists and taking money they could be making legitimately. You get the point. I could blast people left and right and call them out, and get tons of people to agree with me and what not.. BUT, i'm NOT here for that. Just trying to educate the youngins out there. If you want great tattoo work or better, may i reccommend the following shops: (which if you notice, don't need craigslist to advertise) Perfection (Sean Degan), Calaveras (Justin M. does great traditional/newish style stuff), Timebomb Tattoos (whole crew is great), Element (award winning artists, all are damn good), Tiger's Den (seen good stuff from there), Prick Tattoos, Flesh Electric (Good up and coming shop), Integrity also has some good guys at their shop, I think Freakshow has some pretty good cats there too - if you dig new-style stuff, oh! almost forgot Divine Line Tattoo (Doug is really good). Anyway, this ad won't last long, i'm sure....because all these "tattoo artists" are going to get upset and flag my ad, so the truth isn't told.... But with all the damn shops in town....there are really no more than like 20 legit ones, who also have Great artists. I named about half the good ones in the city. Best of luck to you, buddy. Oh, and tell some friends about this bad artist. Don't be afraid to call out these people who aren't true to themselves, and who mainly try to make quick dollars off people who don't know any better. All color fades, must use crap ink. Then after he finishes he complains about price he set with you, thinking he deserves some huge tip! But he sounded like he knew what he was doing, and shop prices can be very expensive for a larger tattoo. I will end up spending even more than if I had just gone to one in the beginning. If you look at his pics of birds, there is a background color, not a nice one. I have to fix mine and make it darker and hide the spots on my arm where he messed up with his needle. Also let the owner of the gallery or coffee shop or furniture store, art store know that you would like to invite your friends or family to see your work- make flyers, postcards- or the gallery might and take a percentage and do the work, even bake something for your show and give something to the owner of the space in gratitude for them letting you hang your work, their are many ways to market your work, the least is to have to pay for someone to put your work in their space.-and as a artists starting off or one that has never shown their work- that is not the way to approach anything in san antonio, paying someone to have your work displayed in their space, maybe in NYC if their clients are billionaires, but if that is the case, they will be looking at the quality of your work, and in most aspects, not hurting financially to have the artist put up cost to have their work displayed- so many different places one can hang their work for free, just your your imagination, be creative- it seems that currently the business people are trying to market wall space to the artists in san antonio, who am I...- just a struggling artist, but i don't think it is a good thing to be taken advantage of, or to take advantage of an artists lack of understanding in figuring out how to approach the art world, if starting out, do Not pay a place to have your work hung, unless they promise to sell your work and, even still, why would they promise that they could sell your work, while taking a profit and then asking for money upfront, freaking ridiculous also be cautious, their have been stories where people hang an artists work, a week later the person has left town with all of your art work... check their background, call other artists that have shown with them, see if they pay on time, how hard is it to get your money if something sells- don't just take their word for it - some galleries in san antonio, one i know of, has taken months and even years before they pay the artists, also see if your gallery owner will tell you when your work sells- some do not, and don't forget to take pictures of all of your work in the gallery, or space where it is hanging- in case they loose a piece, or sell it and say i do not know what your talking about, what art piece, i don't remember that- and that can happen , they might say the artist has left 60 pieces with me, they wont remember one missing, and unfortunately you cant prove it - other then that be creative, paint what matters to you, and regardless if you work sells or not, a side note - more then 100 years ago,just maybe a complete fool in his time, one that was considered constantly wasting his time, living off of his brothers income, an individual that didn't know what it meant to work in society, nor actually contribute to it, a problem child, and parents disapproving well, over a 100 years later, the wealthiest people in the world today, with all their money could not even come close in giving this generation anything worth of substance in comparison to what this one individual did, along with his brother who supported him, they could not even come close to what one of the poorest, individuals one who had nervous breakdowns, and a host of other problems contributed to this world- his name Theo Van Gogh and who we are talking about is his brother the painter Vincent Van Gogh 1853-1890 started to paint at age 27- shot himself later in his life, maybe due to his nature of feeling to much, which is inherent in all good artists- in the stomach after about ten years of painting- maybe due to a non supportive community, non- supportive parents- failed relationships-lack of people not taking the time to understand him and appreciate him, and maybe just maybe an abusive childhood-]]>
