Hello folks. I'm a 30 something drummer that is looking to get into something melodic and heavy with some local peeps. By that I mean, I'm into something with some groove, soul and chunk....not straight ahead metal. I'm into QOTSA, Rage, Tool, Fu Manchu, Kyuss, early Helmet, Deftones, Sevendust, 311, etc. People tell me I have a heavy back beat style that swings and grooves (not to be confused with somebody who is stuck in 4/4-ville). I'd have to say that Deftones White Pony alblum reflects a drumming style that really strikes a chord in me (Abe is a major influence). I'm looking for people who want to write original music that is pure magic and chemistry.

I just made an investment in a pro-kit with an 18X24 kick drum. Few new cymbals and I'm pretty much ready equipment wise. I'm a 8-5pm guy by day but playing is really my passion. Please be chill, down to earth, open minded and serious about playing. I don't do well with "rock star" legend in their own mind types. I'm down to jam it out for a while and see how it feels....and go from there.

Thanks

Conscious singing, and speaking will help you to understand how the mind sends a signal to the body, telling it that a note is coming and to get the body in a position to hit that note, because it doesn't want to fail, be embarrased, humiliated or hurt by the judgement of others. When the attention is focused on the mind and body while thinking about the note coming in the future, the body contracts, and closes down, in doing so, it closes off the air, the sound and the energy. That is called a paradox... when the tool that you are using to sing with is what is stopping you from singing. That tool is the body!!! The body cannot sing! But then what will you sing with??? You will sing from the inside out, but that can only happen when you are present. When you are present you're not worrying about the future, and that can only happen when you are not in your mind, but when you are focused on what is happening now. Feeling, breathing, singing, energy, keeping time, and enunciating. . For this, a vulnerable person is needed, one who understands that your body controlled by mind becomes armor, a barrier from anyone getting in and from your love and beautiful sound getting out. when energy or presence is in control then you will sing from the heart without fear. . I teach rock, soul, blues, jazz, world sounds, folk and vocal improvisation. some of my students have been joan laqui, actor chazz palminteri, lavay smith, vicky burns, razz kennedy. brian from medalia, joey from nrbq. creeper lagoon. nefertiti jones giovannie pico .and michael smolens , and daria mautner FREE 15 min GUITAR LESSON with every voice lesson. or free 15 min song writing course.4159239702
www.thepowerofconscioussinging.com

Lessons At Your Own Home
One Hour $35, Half Hour $25

Hi, my name is Nathan and I am taking new students. I enjoy working with all ages of students, my youngest student has been eight and the oldest fifty-four. I enjoy all styles of music. I grew up on classic rock, did jazz in college and have gotten really into blues, bluegrass and world music. I strongly believe that there is no one-way to learn music and that the best approach is to work with individual students’ strengths. I really enjoy working with beginners. I think it’s really fun to watch someone make music for the first time. I would like to do an introductory lesson, free of charge, so we can meet each other, set a lesson time and so I can get some lesson material (songs, theory, cord charts, ect.) ready to go. If you want to get an idea of what I can sound like, and look like, I am in a band called As A People. If you Google our bands name our MySpace and web page are the first things that come up. Pleas e-mail me at pejzalink@hotmail.com. It may take a day or two for me to respond but I will respond ASAP. Please put “guitar” in the subject line so I don’t pass over your e-mail by accident.
hi:

i've been teaching piano for about 2.5 years and been playing for about 12. i'm currently attending UC Davis as a music major, i have about 15 students currently, and i'm looking for just one or two more to fill up my sat spots. most of my students are kids, but i do have a couple of adults.

my students work incredibly hard and they do so because i push all my students to the limit. i believe that everyone can play piano, it just requires hard work, i guess you can call me one of the harder teachers out there. I've seen way too many teachers out there that allows their students to just slide by, and they really don't care about how their students progress, but for me it's different, i put all my priority on the progress of my students.

i teach beginners to intermediate level students. most of my students start from scratch, but some pick it up from where they stopped as well. send me an email if you are interested, first lesson is FREE, we can talk about your goal, your plan, and i can explain how i teach and what my goals are in person so you'll have a better idea.

i'm looking for students to fill up my sat. spot
also i'm looking for students in san leandro area on friday nights, from 7:30-8:30, i'm looking for summer students as well.

please give me a call a 510-717-3463, and go ahead and leave a voicemail if i don't answer with your info, and i'll contact you as soon as i can

Hi and thanks for reading my post!

I'm a 23 y/o drummer looking to create or join a project. My goals as a musician are to do it for a career. I teach drum lesson's and do some from free lance studio work but in the end I love performing and want to be making albums, playing shows, promoting a band, and doing it for a long time. I've been in the Bay Area music scene for 2 years, so I'm familiar with it, have made some friends, and would like to put something out. Check out myspace.com/jsdrumming to hear what I have done in the past.

I would like to work with musician's that have similar goals and are ready to make things happen asap. I have experience touring, recording, and promoting, and I'd like to be around people that have experience as well. Basically an established musician/band.

In creating a project I would like to put out music that means something and is coming from a real place. In other words not just another band that's trying to "make it". I've had an idea for a while of a talented female lead singer/multi-instrumentalist that creates a lot sound by themselves w/ guitars/keyboards/effects/lab top or any other instruments etc.... Then adding a solid bassist to fill out the sound so that the core of the band would be 3 people. If needed we could always get good musician's to record other instruments or play live on a song or two. But the main purpose for me right now is to find the lead singer/songwriter to work with. I'm thinking a combination of AIR, Film School, and Radiohead. Lush and powerful vocals with the idea of capturing an audience even if it's a small venue at your first show! Also being musically ambient with a good sense of dynamics is where I see the project headed. I'm open to experimental ways of structuring songs and creating sounds and beats. I would be looking to release an EP or album(depending on how many songs there are to work with) within 6 months of the project starting. Playing some shows here and there during that time but really putting yourselves out there after the recording is finished. Again to do this I'd like musician's that are ready to go and won't have hang ups about getting things started on a fast track. Please no flakes or anyone with a drug or drinking problem. I'm looking in the age range of 20-32.

Anyways contact me through email, a myspace message, or however you would like to:) Please send me a link or mp3's to music you have done. I will most likely not respond if you don't have anything for me to hear. I look forward to the responses to see who's out there.

Thanks!

Your voice is a very personal thing. You want to find someone who’s going to understand who you are, what you want to sound like and will give you the right set of skills to reach your goals. If you want to sound like a professional, you need professional training. That’s why most record labels and management firms routinely send their new talent to well trained voice teachers. (I know, often they send them to me!) As someone who was trained by international stars, had a great career as a performer, been a professor of voice for major universities and teaches working pros in Rock, Pop, R&B, Gospel, Country and all pop styles with great success, allow me to suggest some things for you to consider when you make your choice.

It’s not unreasonable to audition several voice teachers. That is, take a lesson or two with each until you find the one that makes the most sense to you. Don’t expect to get free first lessons. They are working hard and deserve to get paid. The perspective you gain may be very helpful.

You want to find someone who is not going to ask you to push or strain your voice. The voice makes sound by using the breath. If you try to punch or push your voice, you loose control. It’s like playing guitar, you want to be loose and nimble. A lot of singers who push their voices burn out. They actually do physical harm to their instrument. The reality is, you get a full range of control (loud-soft, high-low and the full range of emotions) by relaxing and getting that nimble control. Your job is not to make a loud sound, but rather, a good one.

There are some programs out there where instructors buy a franchise and market the technique of some well known teachers Some of these programs may encourage you to push and “build up the muscles”. The human voice doesn’t work like that. You don’t build the muscles of the larynx, you train them to work effortlessly. Again, you want to last. Don’t wear your voice out.

I once heard the great Tony Bennett asked to what he attributed his long career. He replied that as a young man, he received training in the Bel Canto vocal technique. He uses the principals handed down for hundreds of years by professional singers and learned how to get the most out of his voice and make it last.

What kind of training did your perspective teacher have? Ask them. There are many pretty good singers who decide to teach. Most just won’t have the depth of understanding and the chops a well trained singer will have. On the other hand, I know many well trained singers who are snobs about pop music. They may want to change what you do. You need to find someone who’s qualified to give you the tools you need will help you meet your goals.

What does your teacher sound like? If he/she has problems, you don’t want to learn them.

Are you singing the music you want to?

Can you feel and hear progress over time? Does it feel like the more you think about it and practice, the easier singing becomes and the better you get? Are you getting good feedback from your audiences and friends? It takes several months to years to fully understand your voice and develop a truly professional technique. If you have a good teacher, you’ll see steady progress.

I hope this is helpful. Remember, you deserve to work with the teacher that’s right for you. It’s your voice and it’s your money.

Good luck,

Richard Jennings, professor of voice

For more information please read an article about the vocal craft and the Bel Canto technique: http://www.singyourbest.com/vocal-craft.htm

I’m a 24 year old drummer who’s sick of playing along to my iPod. I've been in a few bands before, but I'm itching to get back out there playing in a band setting again. I'm looking for something raucous, edgy, and punkish that still maintains a great pop sensibility.

My two biggest drumming influences are Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney and Mick Avory of the Kinks. I like to approach the drums as another sonic element that helps to drive the dynamics of a song, and not just as a timekeeper. I'm definitely more of an on top of the beat kind of drummer, rather than a laid back one. My style is hard hitting and propelling, which pretty much means that I like to rock out (that's the Janet influence). I love doing snappy little fills (executed at the right moment of course, another Janet thing, Mick too). I basically learned by trying to play along to songs by the New Pornographers, Rolling Stones, The Clash (in addition to Sleater-Kinney and Kinks songs). Hopefully that can give you a taste of my drumming style. I also loathe double bass drumming with a passion. And sparkly vintage kits from the 1960s are the coolest thing on the face of the earth.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, hit me up, as they say. I have my own kit & my own car, I’m gainfully employed by the Man, I’m not a flake, and I have my shit together. I’m very easy to get along with too. No drama with me whatsoever.

Here's a list of music I'm into, for search purposes. I try to be open-minded about music and not just stick to one genre (I dig stuff like M.I.A, Otis Redding, Gram Parsons, experimental stuff like Battles & Animal Collective in addition to my main love that is rock 'n' roll). I'd like to get together with people who feel the same.

The Kinks, The Replacements, Guided by Voices, Sleater-Kinney, The New Pornographers, Blitzen Trapper, The Rolling Stones, The Hold Steady, Bob Dylan, Wire, The Fall, Royal Trux, The Stone Roses, M.I.A., of Montreal, The Shangri-Las, Quasi, The Clash, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pixies, PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Feelies, The Beatles, Gram Parsons, Otis Redding, The Modern Lovers, Big Star, The Band, The Breeders, Elvis Costello & The Attractions, Liars, Spoon, Pere Ubu, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Gun Club, The Slits, Booker T. & The MGs, The Velvet Underground, X, The Vaselines, The Wedding Present, The Stooges, Gang of Four, The Who, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, Wilco, James Brown, Sam Cooke, The Raincoats, OutKast, Arcade Fire, Art Brut, Reigning Sound, Talking Heads, The Jam...

Please only contact me if you are into a good majority of the stuff listed above. This posting has become more than twice as long as it should be, so I'll shut up now.

Ever dream of learning to play the drums or marimba, but never took the time? Maybe your children are budding drummers- with pots and pans! Perhaps you’re already accomplished, but are hungry to go to the next level- or are experiencing pain because of bad habits.

Whatever your background or situation, I can help!

I teach students off all backgrounds: children to adults, beginners to those more advanced. I offer private instruction on drumset and all classical percussion: snare drum, timpani and mallet instruments such as xylophone or marimba. As a drummer and percussionist, I have twenty years of professional experience ranging from classical to theater to jazz and everything in-between.

My education:

Oberlin Conservatory, Bachelor of Music
San Francisco Conservatory, Masters in Percussion

My teachers include:

Jack Van Geem, principal percussionist with the San Francisco
Symphony and marimba soloist.

Dom Famularo, acclaimed master drummer and expert of the
Stone-Moeller-Gladstone systems of drumming.

Fred Hinger, timpanist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and
Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

Alan Dawson, master jazz drummer

My performing credits are diverse and include:

Sacramento Philharmonic, Stockton Symphony
California Pops Orchestra, Mendocino Music Festival,
Berkshire Choral Festival, Pavarotti World Tour Orchestra
Golden Gate Park Band

Berkeley Repertory Theatre, California Cabaret,
CTA Crossroads Theatre, Skywalker Sound (studio work)
City College of San Francisco (theater department)

Recorded on the Koch International label.

The drums are an instrument independent of any style- there's a correct way to play regardless of the music you perform. One of the most important things to develop on any percussion instrument is a relaxed, natural approach to playing. This is my primary aim in teaching- a relaxed, natural way of playing which leads to a lifetime of drumming enjoyment. Some of the things I focus on include:

Cultivating a loose, functional grip.

Discovering the natural rebound of the stick and how it makes everything easier for you.

Understanding the different hinges of drumming and when they should be used.

Coordinating the limbs into a relaxed, balanced whole.

Developing reading skills without sacrificing a relaxed approach to playing.

Developing good time.

Balancing all the musical elements into a seamless whole whether you’re playing a drumset groove or Bach on marimba.

Once you have the fundamentals, you’ll have the ability to venture into any musical style you want!

Of course, I try my best to make it all fun!

To get started, you need only a pair of sticks and a practice pad.
Call Now to Schedule Your Lesson!

David Dieni
415-867-1724

Instruction rates are $35 per hour.
