Kaizen Dog Training mission statement:
1) To train foster dogs to become more adoptable.
2) To train adopted shelter/rescue dogs so they keep their homes and don't end up back at the shelter or on the street.
3) To help ensure these dogs don't hurt another dog or member of the community.
4) To educate and advocate the public on the false hysteria of Pit Bulls.
If you have a rescue group and have dogs that need training or behavior modification, I will work with those dogs for free depending on location (gas money or bridge toll required when necessary).

"Kai"=Continuous "zen"=improvement of the dog, the owner and the trainer.

* I use a positive reinforcement template.

* I specialize in and enjoy working with AmStaff / Pittie terriers.

* I am a graduate of the Marin Humane Society Canine Behavioral Academy.

* I have had extensive experience in dealing with and assessing shelter dogs with behavioral problems.

'Kai' means continuous and 'zen' means improvement. Kaizen is about quality over profit, and the constant flow of small changes for the better. Kaizen Dog Training is a gradual development of the dog for the better.

However, Kaizen Dog Training is also about advancing the dog owners abilities. There is no 'quick fix' to change a ill-mannered dog. Training should not be 'work' but an enjoyable cooperative practice. Kaizen Dog Training also describes my continuous improvement as a dog trainer. I learn and grow as a dog trainer.

I specialize in bully breeds, specifically Pitties. Nothing is wrong with them other then the negative reputation that are attached to these friendly and out-going animals. Usually educating people that they are the product of an irresponsible owner is a bigger deal then training them.

Please contact me *only* if you are serious about committing yourself and your dog to being the best you can be! Does your cat need a playmate? Tasha does too. Tasha is a petite orange tabby, about 18 months old. She gets along fine with other cats, and loves to wrestle with any of the cats who will play with her. In fact, she absolutely MUST go to a new home with another friendly, playful cat.

Tasha loves toys, and is a certified cat-dancer addict!!. She is a bit shy with strangers at first, but warms up VERY quickly. She loves to be petted, and does a lot of purring. She is very communicative with chirps and little meows, especially when she wants to play. When she’s not playing, she’s very happy to be a lap cat, and loves to cuddle and curl up under the bedcovers. She is charming, healthy, playful and active.

Tasha is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped, and has tested negative for FIV/FELV. A foster-to-adopt arrangement is a definite possibility. The adoption fee is $75.

If you are interested in learning more about Tasha, or would like to meet her, please contact Nadine at (415) 221-3618 or (415) 846-1362. (If there’s no answer, please leave a message at either number.) THANKS!
Hi. Our names are Coco and Carmel and we are a 5 year old bonded pair of male guinea pigs. We've grown up together and are best buds so we cannot be separated. Coco is black, white, and orange, while Carmel is just white and orange. They're favorite treats are broccoli and spinach, but they're main diet is hay. They not only love to munch on hay all day long but to burrow and sleep in it as well. Coco is more outgoing than Carmel but Carmel will still come up and say hi. This wonderful pair needs a new home that can provide some room for them to run around. They are currently housed at Andy's Rehoming Center for Adoptable Pets, which is also Andy's Pet Shop. The adoption fee for the pair is $50.
I have been sitting in a pasture and need to be riden. I love to be in parades so if you could ride me in one, I would love it. I'm a black and white paint mare, 13 years old and 15+ hands. I need an experience rider, no beginners. I live in Napa and need to stay here for a lease of $250 a month or maybe you could buy me if I like you and you ride me with confidence. I love trails and I'm a great lead horse and will go anywhere, even the beach. I'm an alpha mare and would be better outside than in a stall. I like my freedom in a pasture. I'm in a pasture with my girlfriend. We get along just fine. Please come to see me.
Hopefully, Kahlua
You would think this would be a simple task, but it has not turned out to be so.

First off, this will be a 100% inside cat, she will never be de-clawed and she will never have to be placed in a shelter or rescue situation for the rest of her life. She will have the very best of Veterinary care, micro-chipped, loved and a member of our family. She will receive the very best organic, all natural food. She will never have fleas and learn to be bated, have her nails clipped and ears cleaned on a regular basis. She will have toys galore, several cat trees to play on, plus a spot on our bed to sleep. She will get to travel and attend cat shows to be shown as a House Hold Pet. She will have the companionship of our other show cats.

So far this doesn't sound like such a bad life, does it?

We are looking for a female kitten that is an unusual color. We do not want a black & white tuxedo or a tabby. A red or cream tabby is fine, but only 25% of red and creams are females. Calico, Torbie or Tortoiseshell is fine. Pointed, blue, cream, chocolate, tortie, lynx, but not seal, with or without mittens. Long or medium long coat.

Now here is the crux of this situation, we do not want her spayed at 8 to 12 weeks old. We would prefer to not have her spayed until she is 6-8 months old. We will be more than glad to sign a waiver, leave a spay deposit to be refunded when she is spayed.

Is there anyone out there with a kitten they would place into this loving situation and take a chance on us doing the right thing, please contact us.
Tucker's been waiting for soooo long...won't you please look a little closer and think about giving this boy the home he so richly deserves!

Tucker is healthy, happy and full of love. He is game for any lifestyle, but would love to be with someone who appreciates his love for games....fetch, soccer, catch, chuck-it...you name it, Tucker would be so grateful for you to play it with him.

He is 50lbs, neutered, vaccinated and apprx. 18 months old. He is a silly love-bug who just wants to play and cuddle. He has a zest for life that is joyous to see, and he's been stuck in boarding for way too long now. He was saved from an overcrowded shelter 5 months ago, and has been eagerly waiting for his new life to begin with you! Won't you consider meeting this happy fella soon?

Tucker is good with other dogs, and would probably be fine in a dog park situation after you've had a few weeks to bond with him and earn his trust. He is a very people-friendly boy, but older kids would be best since he is strong and "jumps" up a bit when he's happy...which is all the time!

Please consider this friendly, loving dog who is so lonely waiting for someone to bring him home! And don't worry about being too far away, as we will gladly bring Tucker for a meet 'n greet in the 510, 650, 707, 408, 925 area codes and beyond!

Please call (415) 457-4544 or email pets.katrina@gmail.com about Tucker. Reasonable adoption fees apply.
We are going on vacation the first two weeks of June and need someone to watch our 16 year old Italian Greyhound.
I thought before we hired someone I'd see if anyone with a gentle little dog would like to trade some pet sitting time.
The friends that used to do this with us have moved so he does like being with other dogs as long as they don't have to much energy. His favorite pastime is sleeping in his house and begging at the table during dinner as you can see in the pic.

If you have a pet rodent, it's very important that you make sure the temperature doesn't rise too much for them during this warm weather we've been seeing.

If you have air conditioning, make sure that the room is kept at a comfortable temperature. Never put your animal's cage directly in front of the air conditioner as this can be dangerous.

Give your pet a cool place to flop in their cage. Before you run to the store to buy an expensive granite slab like the "Chinchillers", remember that it's really just a piece of granite with a chinchilla on the package. You can use a piece of granite from a counter top cutting, or large pieces of heavy tile. Place a few tiles in the freezer and set them in the cage when the weather starts turning up. Your pets will lay on the granite to help disperse their body heat, and they will be a cooler surface even after it loses it's freezer chill. This is less messy then using a frozen water bottle.

You can get boxes of tile at most home improvement stores. Look for real stone or something that does not have any potentially toxic finishes on it. Make sure to give it a good scrubbing before using.

A frozen water bottle is still a good choice if you don't have extra tile, or don't have a good resource to buy some. Leave a frozen water bottle in your pet's cage for them to lay against and drop their body temperature.

An ice pack can be a good tool to combat the cold, but don't use it inside the cage where your pet can chew on it and get to the potentially toxic insides. Lay it flush against the side of the cage, or put it underneath the cage. Summer time is a good time to cut down on bedding if you use it. Make sure you only do this on part of the cage, and leave them another section of the cage to walk to if they need to warm up.

Do you use bedding? Remember that pine and cedar can be dangerous bedding for many small animals. Cage cleanliness will be more important, as bedding that molds with urine can release deadly mold spores into your pet's lungs.

Do you have rats? Your rats might enjoy a little splashing area...give them a low tupperware tray with some cold water in it. They will enjoy playing around with it. You can add ice cubes for them to play with as well. If you leave frozen peas in the water, they will often have tons of fun fishing them out...put a few clean pond rocks in the water to make this more fun for active rats!

Rodents with tails use their tails to help disperse body heat. If your pet is overheating, use a cool (not cold) cloth to wipe their tails and help them chill out.

Shade is important, and so is air circulation. If you don't have A/C, a simple fan can make a big difference.

If you have an aquarium or bin cage, make sure there is some air flow moving across the top of the enclosure if you can. These cages heat up faster then wire cages. So do the plastic habitrail/crittertrail cages!

You can also place ice cubes on top of your pet's water bottle. Don't freeze the water bottle itself, as that can make it hard for your pet to drink from.

Here's to hoping all of the little guys have a cool summer!

Maggie May is 5 years old, has been at this shelter for months now, and has lots of friends. But she'd sure like someone nice to fall in love with her and adopt her!
She's a little chubby, but loves to walk long distances. Here's an idea - for summer, you could watch what she eats and walk a lot with her each day - maybe both of you would lose a few pounds!
Please know she's always smiling, anxious to please, and so happy to have your company! She "sits" perfectly, walks briskly with you, and acts goofy by rolling on her back & twisting as you rub her belly. (She's gentle though). She likes to play with dogs in adjoining pens, running back and forth with joy.
If you jog, she'll run along beside you. If you sit on a bench, she'll crawl under it, smiling up at you, so happy!
She's definitely a fan of the outdoor bathroom (i.e., HOUSEBROKEN)! A doggy door would probably please her immensely.
Overall, she's a fine dog for just about any family - ready to love and play with everyone at your house!
Go to the shelter's Web site at www.sanjoseanimals.com for pictures and more information, or just come and visit, any day except Monday!
It's hard to beat the adoption/rehoming fee of $105 for dogs over 6 months of age, even less for dogs over 6 years. (Includes spay/neuter, microchip, rabies shot, and San Jose license for 1 year!)
The San Jose Animal Care Center is open 11 AM - 7 PM Tuesday - Saturday, 11 AM - 5 PM Sunday, and closed Monday. You must sign up for an adoption 30 minutes before closing time, and bring all the members of your household (including your current dog(s)) to adopt the shelter dog. The shelter is located at 2750 Monterey Highway, San Jose (south of Curtner and north of Lewis).
Any time you pour in new water you upset the balance of the water. Water changes need to be accompanied by chemical treatments added to your water in the correct proportions, and be done slowly. Be sure you don't add COLD water. The amount you've quoted isn't bad. I had fish for 25 years. Never pour cold water into a warm tank. You will get parasites! Drastic water temperature changes can kill them too. Make sure they are not in direct sunlight either. That causes changes in temperature, and causes parasites. Leave em alone, and just make sure the water is not hot! Call the fish department at any Pet Store; they can help you with these kinds of concerns.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reply to: comm-683614773@craigslist.org
Date: 2008-05-16, 4:17PM PDT

I have an albino catfish size of my pinky and an Angel Fish, they are in a fish tank the size of a 19in Computer Monitor (older ones, not the LCD's) they are in my kitchen but I have no A/C and the tank felt kind of warm. I have a breeding pair of blue crowns that need a new hope. Landlord says they have to go. They are around 9 years old in perfect health but they are plucking each other as they are getting ready to go to nest. Make me a reasonable offer and they are yours! I am unable to send pics.
I just adopted a female rat but the other 2 females that I have are not happy about it. I need a cage just for a couple of weeks or less, until they get used to each other. If you live in this area and would be willing to help me by lending me a cage I would be very grateful. Ant advise on how to introduce a new rat to older ones would be very much appreciated.
It is a normal act of establishing dominance. It has nothing to do with sex. My new dog does the same thing to dogs he meets. Our dog trainer said not to worry about it or interfere. We are seeing him slowly stop this behavior in the last 6 week. No worries, I promise you that it is only your embarrassment when it happens that is making it hard for you to deal with it. I know, it happened to me too! ;-)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reply to: comm-683558830@craigslist.org
Date: 2008-05-16, 3:29PM PDT

Hello CL,
We adopted a 8mo puppy from the shelter the other day. Well, he won't stop humping our other much larger dog. We can't get him to stop. And if he isn't humping him he's rubbing up against him or barking at him. What can we do to get him to stop. This has been pretty much non-stop since we got home two days ago. I thought it would stop when they got used to eachother. The newer dog is neutered too. What can we do? Thanks for your help

Hi there. I have a 2 yr old kitty that needs a home to stay in. I do not want to give him up but since i have to move i can not take him with me. I got him on Christmas Eve 2yrs ago. He is very loving and has always been an indoor cat. He does like other cats but he might wanna play alittle to rough. He loves to lay down with and on you. In the mornings he likes to put his paw on your cheek to wake you up. If you hide under the covers, he will try to find you and sometimes try to dig you out. (He thinks hes a dog sometimes =)

He is neutered and has a chip inside of him. The chip as not been activated yet. He is not declawed yet. His name is Dallas. He comes with a litter box, and a bunch of toys and a lazer pen (he goes crazy for that lazer pen. Please, If you can take him in that would be great. I dont want to take him to a shelter. I need to move by the end of this month. Thank you 925-395-3737 Please call me and or email me. Cratty_3@yahoo.com

Ralph is about 6 years old and 75 pounds. He is a playful, even-tempered, good natured boy. His priorities in life are spending quality time with his foster mom and playing with his squeaky toys, in that order. Ralph loves human companionship and is happiest when he gets to play fetch with his squeaky Frisbee. However he’s not a demanding dog so if you don’t want to play he’ll play by himself. He doesn’t like being alone but tolerates it as long as he’s indoors. If he’s left outside unattended he might chew through a fence slat or two in order to find his humans. Ralph is a good apartment dog since he’s calm, housebroken, not destructive, and doesn’t bark inappropriately. Ralph is a middle-aged guy so he doesn’t need a daily run on the beach but he definitely needs regular exercise. He and his foster mom take a brisk walk every day for at least an hour. Ralph’s foster mom feels very safe walking him at night because although he’s gentle and shy with people he can look imposing.

Ralph lives with a very pushy and bratty Pekingese. Ralph is incredibly sweet and deferential to his foster brother and is quite attached to him (it’s not reciprocal). The dogs share their food, toys and treats with each other with no problems. However on walks Ralph can be unpredictable with strange dogs. He doesn’t lunge or bark but when they meet face-to-face he’s not always friendly. We think that with training and socialization he can improve his social skills with other dogs. Typical of his breed Ralph does have prey drive so he must live in a cat-free household and isn’t compatible with very small dogs (Chihuahua size).

It’s possible that in his previous life Ralph was treated harshly because he will shrink from you if you raise your hand or speak harshly. Therefore we’re looking for adopters with a firm but gentle touch who will train Ralph with positive reinforcement methods. His greatest reward is baby talk and praise – he’s an absolute praise junky. He will even wag his tail if you make eye contact with him. Ralph rarely solicits affection but loves it when you offer it to him. In fact when you pet him he is overcome with emotion and will often make little whimpering noises. Ralph will make a wonderful companion for the right household.

If you are interested in learning more about Ralph, call 415-587-1121, or fill out an application at our website. She has lovely silky black hair.

Zelda likes being around people. While not a lap dog, she craves human companionship. At first, in her foster home she acted as though she didn't quite know how to respond to human warmth and affection. Hey, so I need to find good homes for these kittens ASAP. They are about seven or eight weeks old and all eating dry food. My friends parents cat had like nine or ten kittens, and they don't want to keep any of them. I am taking two, but the other seven or so are going to need to find a new family, and fast!! If I cant find homes for these kittens soon they are going to give them to their friends farm to be field cats. They are so young I'm afraid they are going to become a coyote snack =( Now they aren't fixed yet, because they are too young. But I can give you the number for a place that will do neuters for $5 and spays for $10. Please please please, if you have the time and resources to give a kitten a good home consider one of these. There are some that are tabby, tabby with white paws, two little black ones, and two very attached gray kittens (look kind of like blue russians) with the SOFTEST fur. They all have pretty blue eyes and great personalities. I am asking a negotiable rehoming fee of $20 to make sure they find good homes.

IF YOU GOT TO THE END OF THIS AND ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE CALL AMANDA AT (408)565-5785

also, let me know if you would like me to email some pictures.

Why is it that CL rules clearly state that pets may be adopted via this site for a small rehoming fee when everyone that posts dogs asks for hundreds of dollars??? Maybe it is just me, but $500 dollars to rehome a dog is not a rehoming fee, but a profit! What is wrong with people? If you want to sell your dog for profit, go somewhere else. This site is for people who are genuinley looking for new homes for their babies, not those of you who could care less. Flag me, I don't care, as long as I get my point out there. Angel is a Transylvanian Hound who came from living in a kennel-only life after spending her first 2 years in a home with a loving family. After she was sold to the kennel, she was used only for breeding and got no training or much love, so this 8 year old gal needs a loving home with someone who can offer her positive training and reinforcement.

No longer good for breeding, we didn't want to see her languish in a dog-run or possibly be put to sleep for lack of "usefulness", so we rescued her and have started her re-introduction to life with a family.

She is doing good with her obedience, but still needs a solid eye on her when inside as she is a bit sneaky and will counter-surf and go garbage-diving if you're not looking!
