<![CDATA[I'm an artist and black male from up north. I am considering a move to Georgia. I'm trying to choose between Athens and South Georgia. Ideally I'd like to live in a quiet smalltown, perhaps Sylvania or Statesboro. However I also need a job!! So if the small town can't provide I'd need to be an hours drive or less from a major city. I was thinking Savannah might be a better spot rather than Augusta since I am an artist. Savvannah seems liek a cool artsy town and I know SCAD is there which could provide work as well. I'm kind of looking for an area to settle in that is liberal, laid back, with good people, progressive, educated, a bit cultured, yet down home. Mostly I just want to be around good people. I'd like to be near a vibrant art community ( with in driving distance). I hear there are a lot of small towns that are growing as artist hot spots. I'm used to having friends of all colors, and nationalities, etc , same goes as far as dating. The one thing I don't want to run into is a place that is to oldtimey, backwoods, good old boy-like, or flat out racist. The reason I chose Georgia because it seems like one of the few southern states where there is an equal balance of whites and minorities in most cities and towns. I figure people must get along fairly well or at least be very tolerant of each other. I hope thats the case. I have also heard people in Georgia are very helpful and hospitable. I would appreciate any advice you could give on places to live, jobs, the area, cost of living, and what it's like being an artist there. I have heard svannah has a gang problem. is it a dangerous city? Is crime a big issue? I come from a farely "dangerous" city and basically I have never had many problems. I just try to use common sense, don't walk the streets at 2am, and try to avoid the worst parts of town. Anyway advice please! Thank you so much? Oh and what art store is down there?]]>

<![CDATA[I am looking for other artist and individuals that are willing to collaberate and put in some dedication towards bringing the art community together here.
