A nonprofit organization with 59,000 members nationwide, The Civil Air Patrol performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions and was credited by the USAF with saving 72 lives in fiscal year 2009. With over 40 units located in Georgia, the Civil Air Patrol seeks volunteers interested in community and national service, aviation and personal development. CAP volunteers perform homeland security and disaster relief missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. Volunteer members also play a leading role in promotion aerospace education. Young adults between the ages of 12 (rising 6th graders) and 18 are also eligible to participate in CAP's nationally recognized CAP Cadet Program.
