Red, White OR Blue* Juried Monochromatic Show
<br>
July 1 – 27, 2008
<br>
<br>
Just in time to celebrate Independence Day, Sixth Street Gallery presents "Red, White OR Blue", a juried Monochromatic show. This theme focuses on works of art created within one color scheme, in this case red, white or blue, and all hues, tints and shades within that one particular color. Such an exploration
<br>
permits the deconstruction of one of our fundamental elements, allowing interpretation on a simpler, more basic level. All two- and three-dimensional media are welcome, as well as time-based art.
<br>
<br>
*Monochromatic - Monochromatic color schemes are derived from a single base color, and extended using its shades and tints (that is, a color modified by the addition of black and white) .

These sixteen portraits look like women you see every day: middle-aged women of various ethnicities, nothing to draw your notice. You may well have walked by one of them, completely unaware that she is among the many homeless clients of Mary's Place. That's the realization that drove Tina Marohn, an artist and Mary's Place volunteer, to conceive and direct this portrait project: the homeless are largely unseen and unnoticed, kept separate from the normal world.

<br>
<br>
In this city alone, there are many children and districts who are waiting for instruments, papers, paints, etc., so that they can provide art or music class even once a week, for a handful of children, and this often occurs after school hours through the support of volunteers and donations.
<br>
<br>
We hope you will agree that as artists within the community, we have a collective responsibility to help support, and pave the way for today's creative youth.
<br>
<br>
If every person who reads this letter would give a single dollar, or the change laying around your house that you have forgotten about, rather than perhaps caring yet simply passing by . .. we could establish a free arts program today, or drop off the supplies necessary to support a mentoring program or after school arts class. Our waiting list grows longer every day.
<br>
<br>
Do you care enough to give a single dollar? Or more?
<br>
Let's make a difference in the lives of these children today! We can't do it without your support. At the current time we have many willing volunteers who are more than happy to give their time, but few supplies to work with, compared to the overwhelming list of needs.
<br>
<br>
If you can't give a dollar, do you have used art supplies that could be put to good use? Send them our way!
<br>

<br>
<br>
----------- <a href="http://danielmccree.org" rel="nofollow">http://danielmccree.org</a> ------------------ www.DanielMcCree.Org-
<br>
<br>
Written by: Colby Kluthe 11-2-07
<br>
<br>
Daniel was a miracle, plain and simple. Not the little kind, you find in the sun setting on birds clinging to a wire, but a big miracle, like you thought you were going to die, but amazingly caught a net on the way down.
<br>
<br>
I have never been a writer, however soon after I met Daniel, periodically, I would be driven and words simply arrive on the page. Daniel was himself, a person who struggled with many things throughout his life. Nonetheless, anyone who ever encountered him would have been moved so efficiently. Inspired most likely.
<br>
<br>
He never had much money... in fact he may only have $10...period. But would insist, that the beggar on the street deserved it more than he. Daniel would give his own food stamp money to feed his neighbors, then come up short in the cupboard. That's Daniel, and it was the Universal Love he felt for others.
<br>
<br>
One night, Daniel was walking to the train station, headed to see me. I was going to meet him in my neighborhood about 10, but he called around 9:30, to say... he had an issue, and he would be late. When I saw him that evening, he explained that he came across a homeless woman, and it was cold out so he sent her back to his apartment, made her a sandwich, and put her to sleep in his bed, before running back out the door to visit me.
<br>
<br>
I say that Daniel didn't have much money, but he did have a wealth. Wealth of Universal Love, wealth of knowledge and understanding, and wealth of talent when it came to color. When it came to color, he felt it belonged on everything! In fact his art collection is found on basically anything from a furnace filter to the cabinets of a kitchen. Another facet of Daniel, is that to know him was to love him, almost instantly. Daniels favorite pastime, was to walk the three blocks to the train station, and "see where the wind took him". He wanted to meet people. More specifically, a love that could not be conquered. Sometimes the train would take him to the city, and he may wonder a nearby college campus, or he may spend an hour talking to someone at a bus stop, before returning home- yes home, with the homeless woman, Tonji (Tonya) who became a fixture. And by some legend, still lives there today.
<br>
<br>
On the topic of Universal Love, I was always profoundly moved by his grasp of spirituality, and thirst for more understanding. "Spiritual Quest" is about the only way to describe the life of Daniel McCree. Profoundly so, that much of what he had to say, would have far reaching truths. He spoke of things yet to come-wisdom pulled from thin air. Don't get me wrong, Daniel never left his house without his Bible in hand. In fact, his family was driven crazy buying him Bibles, because he kept giving them away. Again, That's Daniel.
<br>
<br>
In late July, an old friend passed through St. Louis, and Daniel decided to return to Florida with him a few days later. While in Florida, Daniel had some amazing experiences. In many ways, I understand what lead to his deciding to go away. The difficult thing for me, is that I could never explain to anyone why, just that I understand. The spirit of Daniel McCree lives on in every person who's life he touched, and continues to touch. His family and friends, which he held so dear to his heart, are honored to have known him, and forever changed for the better. This world was a "pomegranite star" missing him while he looks for himself out there.

I have all of the materials you need to use them on hand so you don't have to buy your own to try them.
<br>
I enjoy teaching beginners, especially people who don't think they're artists. I can show you the tools everyone has inside them to do art with, and encourage you with suggestions and materials to work at your own pace with them.
<br>
As a teacher, I stress patience with one's self and with one's art.
<br>
In pencil, I emphasize looseness in drawing, sketching and shading. In painting, I stress brush control, and especially when working in oils, knowing when to stop on a piece.

$20 an hour.

All materials are included in the cost of the sessions, but students may bring their own if they want to learn their personal tools.

One, two, and three hour sessions available.

<br>
Photography is a life long artistic hobby and passion that I have been doing for over 10 years. I have very little formal training. However, I have taken thousands of pictures (10’s of thousands?), read a few books and am always working to improve.

Excitement and interest in modeling. Willingness to try new things. Ability to laugh at yourself (and me). Desire to make art.
<br>
<br>
Current Projects:
<br>
<br>

<br>
a) Improve my ability of working with studio lighting
<br>
b) Improve my ability of directing a model

<br>
<br>
2) Creating artistic photography
<br>
a) Themes/Concepts, Costumes, and Props
<br>
b) Creating truly interesting images
