Ooops another broken link.

What are you technologically challenged? Read your own F%%##King report. Either bring something to the table or shut up. I've done plenty of reading. I've already read enough your bullshit to last a lifetime. Dick Cheney is one of the biggest liars on the planet.

Do you believe for one second that CHENEY HIMSELF didn't out Valerie Plame for her husband exposing the Nigerian Yellow cake Uranium lie?

If you do you're a liar and an apologist. The idea that the war in Iraq had anything to do with WMDs or Terrorism is so ludicrous I'm laughing when I should be crying.

1. There really wasn't any WMDs and everyone knows it.

2. If it was really about terrorism, why didn't we put the hammer down on Saudi Arabia? Virtually all of the Hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. But we go and attack Iraq. Bullshit!!! It didn't pass the smell test in 2002 and it doesn't now.

Think abou this. Congressional Committee that haw several bilion dollars to spend, and teh Comittee is IT. They decide where to spend it. Th emoney was appropriated, and given to said Committee to determine WHERE it is spent. Foreing aid? Not hardly. It was PLACED INTO THE CIA OPERATIONS BUDGET. Did you ever listen to any parts of that movie, or were you jerking off all the time?

Did you even WATCH it? Wilson made deals with the Saudis as well. FOr every million WE gave teh Mujihadeen, they would match it. THEN....he made a better deal. THey would DOUBLE whatever we gave them. So.....for ever million WE gave them, the Saudis would give them two more million. THat all went to teh CIA to buy weapons from various countries, such as CHINA, even Israel and other countries as well. You aren't very well informed, and the only reason you are arguning it to tell us all that it was Reagan's fault. If you really cared aboutexactly what happend, go read teh book. The author lists INTERVIEWS WITH LEADING DEMS OF THE TIME, as well as ALL SOURCES for his information. Tell you what....until you are grown up enough to understand that the Democratic Party as well as the Republican Party have done and STILL do this kind of shit, and stop living in dreamworld, the better off you will be. BOTH PARTIES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHERE WE ARE TODAY. Maybe not in your mind, but in reality they all are. Now...if you rreally want to see some behind the scenes stuff, go read about all the things that happened while JFK was President, including their ties with the mafia and the effort to kill Castro by use of teh mafia. PEople who were in his cabinet then have now come forward to tell their stories, and guess what? They all agree on their story, so I would imagine that not all of them got together just to tell a lie.

Actually it is you who can not read. That means you add up all locations then divide the total by the number of entries you made.

here if you add 100 + 200 + 300 you get 600 total divide by 3 and you have 200. Yet not everyone has two hundred.

So depending on where you were your price would be different. duhhhh

I will bring flash cards if you need help..lol

Really??? I'm not right about the Price of Gasoline?

Wow, I'm surprised the United States Department of Energy would post fictional prices in a spreadsheet and post that to their website? I have not yet read the book. I only saw this movie. I saw the original report on 60 minutes about Charlie Wilson. I don't believe everything I see or everything I read. The movie was pretty good, but like all movies I'm guessing there is some exaggeration, but books are known to exaggerate as well.

You are making the Oliver North argument..."plausible deniability" Literally a mainstay of Neo-Conservative practices. If the Libs can't prove it or get it to court it doesn't matter if we lie our asses off.

I doubt sincerely that Reagan or his administration was out of the loop. Can I prove that? No, but I ask myself hmmmm, is it likely that billions of dollars were funneled out of the US Treasury to fund the Mujhadeen without the knowledge of the President of the United States, the Commander in Chief, who's main Constitutional Authority is foreign policy? Maybe I'm wrong but that seems highly unlikely.

However, I'll accept your recommendation and read the book. I've heard it is a good read.

First of all idiot, do some research. Gas Prices historical is very easy to look up. George W. Bush took office On January 20, 2001 at that time, the price of a gallon of gasoline was $1.47 and then proceeded to drop!!! However within two years later it was priced pretty much the same as when he took office.
However that's where the stability ended. By March of 2003 the price for Gasoline was a $1.64 up 10%. By May the following year, the price of gas had risen to $2.00 a gallon up another 20%. A year later it had risen another 10% to $2.20 a gallon. So Clinton's policies led to a stable market but after a couple of years of Dumbya reign, the price of gasoline started to rise precipitously.

One could point to actions by George W. Bush that could easily contribute to the rise of Gas prices. I'm curious sir what actions by the 109th Democratic Congress in your opinion that has led to the rise in Gasoline prices? Get ready for some amazing logic people.

From mid 2003 (notice any coincidence to the timing of the US invasion in Iraq?) to 2007 The price of Gasoline had risen about 44%. This was more than a gallon of Gasoline had risen in the previous 13 years. Granted the price increases have not slowed down. and have actually increased since the Democrats took control of Congress.

The question is is this a mere coincidence or could the simple fact that the Democrats took control of Congress resulted in higher prices at the pump? I would love to see the twisted logic of this Neo-Con as he tries to blame the Democrats.
I told you....READ THE FUCKING BOOK, don't go with just the movie. Reagan had to know towards the end, but in the beginning, it was all clandestine. Besides that, who really cares, other that pointing fingers and placing blame. BOTH PARTIES WERE INVOLVED. Like that better? No? Why not? Because you can't place all the blame on the republicans, that's why not. Wilson stated it rolling, and got his fellow Dems to go over the top CIA director's head through various comittees. The head CIA guy didn't really know exactly what was happeneing until later, as some of his own people didn't tell him, because of internal struggles. It happens all the time folks, believe it or not. It is most likely that Reagan would not have know UNLESS his people told him, and if you think that just anyone can walk into the president's office to tell him something you are in lala land. Now.....Bill Clinton NEVER met with his director of the CIA while in office. He only met with his close personal aids who had contact with the director. See what I mean? If an aid didn't feel it important enough to tell the Pres, then he may never find it out. It's all history. Go read the fucking book, will you? The movie leaves so many details out you can't believe it. Besides that, if you think Reagan absolutely knew about it, then provide proof of that claim. Prove it. Show some statement from a cabinet member or member of his administration that states it. Speculation when placing blame isn't fair, but then again, I don't see many libs that argue with facts, or with fairness. Only emotion and what they WANT to think.

Myth: Oil prices are rising due to lower supply and increasing demand.
Fact: The price of oil has diverged from market fundamentals in such a dramatic way that it is placing our economy at grave and immediate risk, not to speak of the consequences of the enormous, unprecedented transfer of wealth that is taking place. There are no crude oil shortages. Commercial inventories of crude oil, even excluding our Strategic Petroleum Reserve that is currently at 97% are 9% higher than they were at the end of last year. Crude inventories increased in seven of the last eight weeks. This past week crude oil inventories jumped by 6.2 million barrels far more than the 1.7 million barrels forecast. Yet prices barely budged below their all time highs of $128/bbl. Gasoline inventories are at their highest levels in the past 18 months.
The price of oil has increased by over 120% over the past 15 months.

Myth: the oil lease for drilling in Anwar would benefit the economy of the United States.
Fact: the oil will be sold to the highest bidder, most likely Royal Dutch Shell and then refinded & sold wherever & whenever Royal Dutch Shell chooses. Who serves as General Counsel for Shell? None other than Gale Norton, who served for five years as President Bush's Secretary of the Department of the Interior.
That the bulk of the wealth derived from the development of these public lands will land on Royal Dutch Shells bottom line and not in the public purse is a given. This is not a Socialist nation, we do not have Nationalized oil. We will be paying for the oil twice, once through the giveaway at the well, and again at the pump when we buy it back through the price of gasoline.

Myth: the United States will make bank on this oil because we are selling it to the highest bidder.
Fact: Based on the record of sale of oil in the Chukchi Sea offshore northwest Alaska in Feb 2008, the United States leased this area for approx. 14 cents per barrel of oil. The going price as of today is $128 per bbl. the Minerals
Management Service, the federal agency responsible for the auction covering
29.7 million acres has estimated that the area contains 15 billion barrels therefore benefiting Royal Dutch Shell to the tune of 1.28 Trillion.
War through the eyes of a vet
Sherry Wolf reviews a new film that shows one veteran's transformation into an opponent of war.
May 16, 2008
ON HIS fifth day of service in Iraq, Tomas Young was shot while riding in an unarmored truck through Sadr City, which left him paralyzed from the chest down at the age of 25.
A new film by Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro, Body of War, chronicles Tomas's painful physical, emotional and political transformation from Top Gun fantasy warrior to active spokesman with the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW).
Incensed by the corporate media's gung-ho coverage of the war in Iraq, Donahue and Spiro spent three years chronicling the odyssey of this one critically wounded soldier to expose the harsh reality behind the bipartisan rush to war. In its most powerful moments, Body of War allows the audience to witness the devastation of life after war for many of the 30,000 wounded so far.
As Tomas relates, most people see a man in a wheelchair and think he just can't walk, but watching him struggle to put on his pants, sit without falling over or passing out, insert a catheter he must wear, take morphine to kill the pain and grapple with his inability to have an erection fuels outrage at the way governmental indifference leaves the wounded to deal with these daunting burdens alone.
At one point, Tomas is rushed into the Veterans Affairs hospital for an emergency operation to deal with life-threatening lead levels in his blood--something he had to fight the bureaucracy to even test him for. He's left lying on a gurney afterward with fewer medical instructions than he received after getting his tattoo.
In a meeting with a paraplegic Vietnam veteran, he discovers that the less seriously wounded vet before him spent nearly two years in hospitals and rehabilitation to regain his strength and abilities, while Tomas was rushed through the system in less than three months, with no after-care or genuine rehabilitation.
The stress and superhuman patience and constant nursing he requires daily eats away at his new marriage to a young woman whose personal life is narrowed to non-stop caretaking for a man whom she sadly relates has only been able to have sex with her five times.
Scenes of Tomas attending his first antiwar march in September 2005, speaking before a church audience, joining Cindy Sheehan in Crawford, Texas, at her vigil to confront Bush that August, and becoming involved in the nascent IVAW are reminders of how a vocal and visible antiwar movement can draw in and give greater purpose to young vets like him--and his mother, who begins to rail against the imperial aims of the U.S. government.
She comments about the insanity of how young men are made to feel that only as soldiers can they be brave and honorable as she watches Tomas' younger brother head off to fight in Iraq. She'd be just as proud if he were working at Target for six bucks an hour.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
THE FILM is seriously weakened by its adherence to Democratic Party politics and the invisibility of Iraqis as the primary victims of this war.
The backdrop to the film is the October 2002 "debate" and vote on the Iraq war in Congress. Scenes of Tomas going about his daily struggle and evolving politicization against the Bush regime and war are cut with familiar clips of both Republicans and Democrats repeating the lies about WMDs and Saddam-Hitler comparisons in the run-up to the war vote.
While Donahue and Spiro don't hesitate to show Democrats like Sen. Hillary Clinton enthusiastically chiming in for war, they transform the 23 senators who voted against it--in particular, the palsied Constitution-waving Sen. Robert Byrd (D.-W.Va.)--into heroes of the story. Byrd's passionate rhetoric against a rush to war and for the constitutional responsibility of Congress and not the president in declaring war aside, the political content of his and the other no-vote Democrats' appeals hardly amount to a principled antiwar stance.
Some are seen arguing for a United Nations or multilateral invasion, as if that would have made the destruction of Iraq and killing of 1.2 million people more acceptable. There is an underlying presumption that the Afghan war, given that country's supposed ties to al-Qaeda and 9-11, was justified. Despite five years of Democratic votes to fund the war--including the current debate, in which a Democratic-controlled Congress actually added $70 billion to Bush's requested $102 billion war-spending bill--the film portrays the war as Bush's boondoggle, not a bipartisan imperial project.
Byrd, who voted for the USA PATRIOT Act and has been a war hawk for most of his 50 years in Congress, is strangely pictured as the elder antiwar icon in this film. As the Senate Appropriations Committee chairman, Byrd is one of the architects of the Senate's current ploy to toss in a few domestic spending carrots to make this bloated war-funding bill appear palatable to voters in this election season.
In a Q&A with Donahue at the preview screening in Chicago, it became clear that, despite the filmmakers' good intentions, they blunted the message to avoid arguments for immediate withdrawal and didn't portray the war's horrifying impact on Iraqis because of their false presumptions that Americans are too right wing.
But the Gallup polls showing Bush's handling of the war and economy placing him at sub-Nixonian levels and the 80–95 million twenty-somethings who register record pro-union and ardently antiwar positions tell a different story.
Tomas Young's tale is a harrowing one that deserves a better conclusion than nudging viewers to go vote for Bush's pro-war collaborators in November.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Review: Movies
Body of War, a documentary by Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro.
But, actually, I was closer to being right in the first place. The national debt is divided into two parts according to the US Treasury.

The first is the debt owed outside the US, and the second is the debt owed back to US citizens. The 9 trillion dollars the hater of dumb-asses was referring to includes both of these; but the real national debt, what we owe to other nations, is close to my original assertion but is fast approaching 5 trillion dollars.

Now that does not mean that the 9 trillion number isn't valid, it is. The government is still spending 1.5 trillion every day over and above what it takes in to pay on Democrat Socialist Boondoggles. The result is that other nations and even America's own citizens own you and I because we gave up our freedom from debt for our own personal safety and comfort in defiance of James Madison's and Thomas Jefferson's warnings and admonitions. We want! We want! We want! But are not willing to pay the historical price of patience, perseverance, and righteous determination. We whine when one another suffer, rather than accept our own mortality. We've become a Godless people.

The real national debt, that which is owed to other nations, is projected currently to be close to 12 trillion dollars, and according to the Congressional Budget Office will be tripling and quadrupling in the near future. I predict a total national debt of over 100 trillion dollars within ten years if these socialist programs are not throttled or refinanced by capital investment instead of debt generating taxation.

I do not want America to be like Europe. I want America to be a light in the World of what could be for every man. Like John McCain, I want everyone to be able to live in a home like mine; but taxes will never achieve it, only the acceptance of our own mortality. My wife and I are both union employees who have paid the price of a lifetime to achieve our goals. But we are free through and through, and intend to stay that way.

The Iraq war, approved by Congress, and only stoppable by a Democrat controlled Congress - which they have not done because they need it as an election shill. The Iraq war has on average consumed about 2 billion dollars per month, divided by 31 days, consumed about 64 million dollars per day. You say the national debt is accruing at 1.56 billion dollars per day; which means that the daily national debt increase without the cost of the War on Terror is, 1.56 billion less .06 billion(64 million), about 1.5 billion dollars per day.

1.5 billion dollars per day equals, 365 times 1.5, over half-a-trillion dollars increased debt per year.

Now, taxes collected far exceed all Constitutionally mandated functions of government, and even plow a big swath through the socialist boondoggles of the Democrat Party; but the responsibility for the national debt sits squarely upon the shoulders of the Democrat Party and its socialist boondoggles. Cheney lied over and over and over again that Saddam and Iraq were aligned with the 9-11 terrorists even though there was no intelligence for that.

It is just just plain right and here is why.

One, The document you point to is is a busted link

Secondly, the fact that Saddam and Al Qaeda had similar desires is not relevant..nor is it necessarily enlightening. You point to the fact that both might have been enemies of the United States as some sort of evidence of cooperation or collusion. It it not.

Actually none of your rambling backs up Dick Cheney or Bush... because Cheney said there were ties yet even you admit that there is no smoking gun.

Cheney spoke a minimum of a dozen times that Mohammad Atta met with Iraqi agents in Prague yet the CIA and other intelligence agencies deny this. But that didn't stop Cheney from repeating that lie.

Simply stated the NY Times article that you call out on the carpet as being somehow deceptive is far less deceptive than your point. In fact, it is accurate. The report that you point out actually says nothing other than the fact that both Saddam and Al Qaeda had no love for the US. The same thing could be said about a dozen middle eastern nations. There were ten times more ties between Saudi Arabia and 9-11 and America did not attack the Saudis.

Sadly, this is what passes for an argument from the right. Bush never lied because he carefully parsed his words. Bush deliberately employed a tactic which tied Iraq to 9-11 without actually saying that. It was an administration wide tactic that resulted in having more than 70% of all Americans believing that the terrorists who attacked us on 9-11 were actually Iraqis even though none of them were.

I never said Bush lied.. America's current national debt stands at about four trillion dollars. This includes the cost of the War on Terror. But America's projected debt liability due to the socialisms of the Democrat Party alone currently stands at nearly twelve trillion dollars.

Interestingly, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reports that Medicare/Medicaid costs are projected to quadruple from five percent of the Gross Domestic Product to as much a twenty percent of the GDP. Social Security costs are even more frightening.

Early in America's history, Madison/Jefferson Democratic Republicanism was overrun by the big money mongers in New York City known as the Federalists. You see, Madison wrote and argued for the Constitution he authored on the grounds that federalism and pure democracies do not foment freedom. He constructed the ideals of Constitutional/Republican government in our Constitution in order to keep the general public from voting itself largess from and through the public treasury; and to keep government dispersed into more localized authorities. He envisaged an America which provided for the common defense . . . but which only promoted the general welfare through the application of laws and punishments for behaviors deemed wrong by the people. But the wealthy bankers of New York were pushing federalism, concentrated power and the appeasement of the people to their own profit. Within a few years, America's single party government was overrun with the money of the New York elite, and they've been at their work ever since. Eventually, the Democratic Republican Party of Madison and Jefferson's dream lost its Republicanism, and the name was eventually changed to simply the Democrat Party.

The Democrat Party has been run by the international money elite ever since; it is heavily supported today by the powers centralized in New York City.

What about the money elite of New York City? It was this group which brought the World the Russian Revolution, communism, and the Iron Curtain, it was this ideology which financed the Nazis through huge contributions in their vision of World dominion. It is this group of something-for-nothing men and women, catering to something-for-nothing people everywhere, who constitute the vast support of federalism and socialism in the World; and all this at the expense of the honest working man, who takes only what he has earned, who pays all the tax burden for the something-for-nothings whether rich or poor, and who doesn't look to other men for his own existence.

Today, the Democrat Party claims to be America's original political party, but they fail to tell you of the usurpation of Madison's and Jefferson's vision for the future. It wasn't until Lincoln that Republicanism re-emerged.

Folks, international endeavor is important for the future of mankind. I would pray that men and women everywhere could live under Madison's and Jefferson's Constitutional ideals. But the moneyed elite would rather concentrate their control and profitability in appealing to the wants of those who do not pay their own way; raising out of the sea of humanity, a proud tower.

Now they profess in the press that they want universal health Care in America because they want to remain profitable in World markets. They want to take away the abundance we all enjoy through our hard earned employment benefits by reducing America to the level of the socialist one-World economy of Europe, where unemployment runs high, where the average income is far lower than ours, where most live in rental flats, and where they wait in line for medical care and procedures we receive freely and promptly. They want to take away the two to three times as much medical benefit we enjoy, because it affects their bottom line. But in doing so, it will add one more line item to the pay stubs of every hard working man and woman. A line item which will make Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security pale in comparison. They are about reducing America's abundance to fit the World model - the leveling of the masses for corporate bliss.

They tell us that we can keep whatever health care our employers provide now; but this will not last long as employers seek to shirk their programs with offers of cash to opt out and down to universal health care.

They failed in the Soviet Union, but like Nikita said, they will overcome. Socialism is merely the doorstep to communism; where the elite rule in luxury over working men and women.

This is your Democrat Party, financed by the international money elite, the likes of George Soros who spends billions of dollars subduing the free man and woman to the one World system which makes him wealthy while repeating the mantra, 'tax me, I'm wealthy'; knowing that the working man pays his taxes anyway.

Myth: There's only a 200-day supply there, so why bother. Fact: The truth is that the latest U.S. Geological Survey estimates are that the entire "1002 Area" contains up to16 billion barrels of recoverable oil. If found, this oil could replace all of our imports from Saudi Arabia for more than 30 years! The reserve could prevent our dependence on foreign oil from getting any worse for decades. Rather than being 56 percent dependent like we are now, it could cut our dependence to around 50 percent, according to the Energy Information Agency.

Myth: They want to destroy the last pristine wilderness along Alaska's coast, even though 95% of the area is already open to oil development. Fact: The truth is that only 14 percent of the whole 1,500-mile Arctic coastal plain in Alaska is open to oil exploration. Estimates are upon discovery a major oil field could be developed using modern technology, affecting only a tiny 2,000-acre sliver of the 1.5-million-acre "1002 Area" of the Arctic coastal plain -- one hundredth of a percent of the entire 19-million-acre ANWR area. Remember that 8 million acres of the refuge are in permanent wilderness and roughly another 9.5 million acres are classified as normal refuge. Only a part of the Arctic coastal plain -- the "1002 Area" was left open for possible oil and gas development.

Myth: Oil drilling would affect the caribou. Fact: There is absolutely no indication that environmentally responsible exploration will harm the 129,000-member Porcupine caribou herd. In fact, the history over the past 26 years at neighboring Prudhoe Bay shows the opposite. There the Central Arctic caribou herd has more than tripled in size, from 6,000 animals in 1978 to 19,700 today. Caribou will flourish as they have throughout Alaska, where caribou out number people three to two. No hunting by non-Natives will be allowed.

Myth: Drilling would destroy the Native Gwich'in culture. Fact: The fear that Arctic development will harm the caribou and the Gwich'in culture is groundless. Given the strict controls planned to prevent disruption to the herd¹s summer calving grounds nothing will prevent the caribou from passing close enough to the Gwich¹ins -- protecting their yearly hunt. The Gwich'ins concern for oil development certainly seems recent. Just 15 years ago they issued a request for proposals to lease their 1.79 million acres of land for oil development. No where did they require restrictions to protect the caribou. Only when no oil was found on their lands did the Gwich'ins oppose oil work. (See Gwich'in land lease proposal)

Myth:Canada has protected their wildlife, we should do the same. Fact: Canada finally created a national park, but did so only after extensive exploration in the 1960s failed to find oil. Canadians on their Arctic coastal plain drilled 89 exploratory wells and extended the Dempster Highway from Dawson to Innuvik, cutting through the center of the Porcupine caribou herd's migration route. Such development did not harm the herd.
re:e: re: Cut and Paste vs Thinking for oneself. -

OK so here is my point...you wrote the following;

Cheney lied over and over and over again that Saddam and Iraq were aligned with the 9-11 terrorists even though there was no intelligence for that.

I can't tell you how many times this has appeared on this post in one form or another, and never with any supporting evidence. it just gets thrown up there for smeone to react to.

It is just plain wrong and here is why.

Download the report and read it for yourself:
http://a.abcnews.com/images/pdf/Pentagon_Report_V1.pdf

A review of more than 600,000 documents seized from the possession of Saddam Hussein has concluded that Saddam did indeed have significant contacts with various terrorist groups, including Al Qaeda. Just like President Bush said before the liberation of Iraq in 2003.

If you read the New York Times, you don’t know this is true. In fact, you think the opposite is true, because the Times wrote a story about the report that can only be described as a complete lie.

Here is how the Times headlined its story: “Study Finds No Qaeda-Hussein Tie”

Here is the lead:

There was no direct operational connection between Saddam Hussein’s government and Al Qaeda before the war in Iraq, says a Pentagon-sponsored study released Wednesday.

This might be described as a Clinton truth – technically true but designed to mislead. But it’s too generous to give the Times a pass and call this a Clinton truth. The Times lied. That’s all there is to it.

If a newspaper is going to do a story about a government report, the story should tell you the relevant information in the report.

Bush’s case was always that Saddam supported global terrorism, including Al Qaeda, but Bush never based this part of the justification for war on the requirement that Al Qaeda must be part of the package. And yet it was. The report details how Saddam’s regime worked with various terrorist groups.

That included Al Qaeda, as we learn on Page 40:

An example of indirect cooperation is the movement led by Osama bin Laden. During the 1990s, both Saddam and bin Laden wanted the West, particularly the United States, out of Muslim lands (or in the view of Saddam, the "Arab nation"). Both wanted to create a single powerful state that would take its place as a global superpower.

That seems kind of relevant, don’t you think? The New York Times didn’t.

The report goes on to explain that Saddam and Osama hardly trusted each other, but shared enough common objectives that they couldn’t help but cooperate on some level:

The Saddam regime was very concerned about the internal threat posed by various Islamist movements. Crackdowns, arrests, and monitoring of Islamic radical movements were common in Iraq. However, Saddam's security organizations and bin Laden's terrorist network operated with similar aims, at least for the short tenn (sic). Considerable operational overlap was inevitable when monitoring, contacting, financing, and training the regional groups involved in terrorism. Saddam provided training and motivation to revolutionary pan-Arab nationalists in the region. Osama bin Laden provided training and motivation for violent revolutionary Islamists in the region. They were recruiting within the same demographic, spouting much the same rhetoric, and promoting a common historical narrative that promised a return to a glorious past. That these movements (pan-Arab and pan-Islamic) had many similarities and strategic parallels does not mean they saw themselves in that light. Nevertheless, these similarities created more than just the appearance of cooperation. Common interests, even without common cause, increased the aggregate terror threat.

Finally, there’s this:

For years, Saddam maintained training camps for foreign "fighters" drawn from these diverse groups. In some cases, particularly for
