<![CDATA[Hello! my name is kristen. i was a kindergarten teacher before i became a stay at home mom to my little girl Terah, who is 2 years old. I am CPR and first aid trained. I worked in a daycare for six years before and during college so have had extensive experience will all ages/needs. I am looking to care for a child or children in my home full or part time for infant to toddler. We live porters neck. My rates and hours vary and are very negotiable. I have a full/part time rate as well as a drop in hourly rate. Nc law states no more than two children at a time w/o a license and we always stay within this limit. Drop ins are worked around full/part time so there is never more than two children at a time. However, I have plenty of available time and have a full time spot opening up at the end of this month. Terahs dad, paul, is going to school a few hours during the day and is aiming for premed. He is usually home during the afternoon and would be helping out. He was in the navy for five years as a corpsmen. We are both nonsmokers and health nuts.:) We have one small yellow lab mix dog who thinks kids are just the greatest thing in the world. We have a climbing gym in the backyard as well as a swing set, bounce house, two tree swings and countless ride on toys. I think outside time is a very important part of the day and love to spend as much time playing outside as the weather permits. Even if its rainy, (as long as its not cold or lightening) we'll throw some boots and raincoats on and stomp around in the puddles. We live further back in the woods so we have a TON of land to explore and one of our favorite pass times is climbing up a small dirt hill and sliding down it. :) We also have plenty (thanks to grandma and grandpa) of developmentally appropriate toys for all age groups. As a teacher, i love to take advantage of every opportunity to teach through play and real life experience from sorting shapes to arts/crafts, play dough, finger painting, collages, and on and on. I can also teach baby signs if you so desire and your child is at the appropriate age. Toddler play includes play dough, sand/water table, finger painting, chalk drawings, scissor activities, color/shape collages, story time, music time, nature walks, bug hunts, bounce house, toddler trampoline, nature walks and many more! I also have four ABC computer games that my daughter loves to play. She can use the mouse perfectly and already knows all of her letters, numbers and shapes and is working on her writing! :) We do not watch any tv, it is never on during the day and computer time is limited to 15 minutes. <![CDATA[Pennie's Child Care: I have two full time openings beginning next week. I am located on Carolina Beach Rd. at the corner of Independence. I charge $125. a week for full time care. My schedule is some what fixed but yet flexible. We have free time in the morning until around 9:00. During free time the children have serveral toys and games to choose from. I swap out the toys on a monthly basis so they always feel as if the have "new'' toys to play with. The toys are age appropriate. We have blocks, cars, puzzles, puppets, and lots more. At 9:00 we do some sort of hands on; coloring, painting, drawing, glueing, cutting, etc. I always add learning into everything we do, whether it is counting, naming the color, sounds, ryhming, etc. At 10:00 we have snack time which is provided by me. After snack we go outside. My back yard is set up like a park. We have swings, slides, hobby horse, sandbox, climbing, and plenty of room to run and play hide-and-seek. We often go to the neighborhood play ground. It is behind my house but it's about a half mile walk. The neighborhood is very safe and quiet. We have one entrance in, so there is barely any traffic. The children always enjoy the walk, we take bikes and scooters with us. Some where between 11:30 and 12:00 we have lunch, which is provided by the parents. After lunch we have free play while I get everything cleaned up. Then we have story time and sing-a-longs. We take nap around 2:00. Wake up is around 4, then we have snack and free play or outside play time. I offer a very safe, clean, fun, learning enviroment. I have been working with children for the past 18 years. Nine of those years were working in the school system teaching 3rd graders. Although I enjoyed working in the school system I enjoy the smaller groups much more. Truth be told, I would love to continue working in the fire service but child care has made it impossible to work as a public servant. I have a wonderful 2 and a half year old son that is my life. My fiancé has a beautiful five year old daughter and it makes more financial sense for me to stay home. I am currently a Firefighter for the department of defense stationed in Iraq and will be returning to the states on May 18 at the end of my contract. I will be looking to take in two or three children at my house for care up to seven days a week. I am looking for primarily full time day care but I will work with Doctors, Nurses, EMT’s, Paramedics, Cops, Firefighters, night shift workers, the regular 9-5 or anyone else that works awkward hours or shifts.
