Detroit, the largest city in Michigan is located north of Windsor, Ontario, on the Detroit River, in the Midwest region of the United States. The Detroit has a total area of 143.0 square miles, out of which 138.8 square miles comprises of land and 4.2 square miles comprises of water.

Other nicknames emerged in the twentieth century, including Rock City, The D, D-Town, Hockeytown, and The 313 (its area code).[5]
